From a Berry column I read on ESPN:

One more second-half list: Kemp, Kinsler, Curtis Granderson, Ellsbury and Braun were the only players to score more runs after the All-Star break than Dexter Fowler.

    Fowler also had 10 steals and hit .288 in 271 post-ASB at-bats.

Default Ubaldo Jimenez drills Troy Tulowitzki, benches clear, Tulo leaves with elbow injury

    WOW

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A war of words turned ugly today as the Indians' Ubaldo Jimenez hit Rockies' shortstop Troy Tulowitzki in the left elbow with a fastball on the first pitch of his at-bat.

Tulowitzki left the game with the injury, prompting concern that he might not be ready for opening day this Friday in Houston. He was taken to local hospital for precautionary X-rays on his left elbow. Those X-rays were negative, meaning there was no structural damage.

After hitting Tulowitzki in his first at-bat, Jimenez raced toward the plate, motioning with his arms multiple times for Tulowitzki to come toward him. Teammates on both sides quickly got between the players as benches emptied. Tulowitzki exited the game for a pinch-runner. And Jimenez was not ejected, though the Rockies are expected to call the commissioner's office and request a suspension.

    Holy shit.

Since Jimenez moved aggressively toward the plate after the plunking it's going to be tough to claim it was an accident. I predict a nice suspension in Ubaldo's future. I saw another quote where he said, "I'm a man" afterward. I don't think he really knows what it means to be a man.

    From article:

"The thing that got started was, he was calling me out (from the batters box). I mean, I'm a man. If somebody calls me out, I have to go. He was calling me chicken. He was calling me names," Jimenez said.
If this is true, I don't think much of Tulo. It has been stated that he is now "the Rockies' main man", rather than Todd. If that is true, I don't think Todd would have ever stood in the batters box calling someone chicken, and other names.

If he was doing it from the batter's box then it doesn't show a lot of intelligence on Tulowitzki's part. There should also have been witnesses who heard it. I'll be curious to see what people who were there have to say. At the same time, a "man" doesn't throw a 90+ mph pitch at someone for calling them a name. I know you didn't say anything like that Carol, I'm just ranting.

Default Furious Jim Tracy calls Ubaldo Jimenez hitting Troy Tulowitzki a ‘gutless act’

SCOTTSDALE — Saying he has lost all respect for his former ace, manager Jim Tracy unloaded on Indians pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez on Sunday, calling his plunking of all-star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki “a gutless act.”

Tracy demanded that Jimenez be suspended, saying the right-hander intentionally hit Tulowitzki on the first pitch of his first at-bat at Salt River Fields. Major League Baseball is expected to investigate, with Jimenez likely facing discipline. There’s no video of the incident, but commissioner Bud Selig was in attendance at Salt River Fields.

“It’s the most gutless act I have seen in 35 years of professional baseball. I have lost all respect for him. To do something like that and walk down off the mound, and if there’s any suggestion whatsoever that the ball got away, I don’t want to hear any of that (expletive). He intentionally threw at him. He should be suspended. I am going to be very disappointed if he doesn’t get suspended. He deserves to be,” Tracy said, his voice rising in anger.

Honestly, Ubaldo needs to work on returning to 2010 form instead of this crap about not getting the contract he thought he deserved. He is proving the Rockies right that he did not deserve the contract.

After all the BS coming from Ubaldo, I don't blame Tulo for talking a little smack, especially because Ubaldo has sucked since 2010, and still has been mouthy about not getting an extension.

Tulo got fed up with his attitude, and Ubaldo just proved Tulo right.

So here's the video of the pitch.

I could buy that the pitch got away from Jimenez, but he shouldn't have walked off the mound with the body language he used IMO.

I think Tracy overreacted a little bit...

I'm not a huge fan of AL pitchers throwing at batters because they don't have to hit - but in this case I understand why Ubaldo did it. I think Tulo had it coming for bad mouthing Ubaldo in the media. At the end of the day, I think Ubaldo is a whiny crybaby and Tulo is 10x the player, but I don't think Ubaldo deserved to have a former teammate badmouth him in the press after he was gone.

Default Rockies option pitcher Alex White to Triple-A Colorado Springs

SCOTTSDALE — Alex White’s bid to make the opening day roster ended today as the right-hander was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

The decision on White leaves Tyler Chatwood, acquired in the Chris Iannetta trade, in position to stick in the bullpen. He pitched a scoreless inning Sunday in his first work as a reliever this spring.

What is 5 games to a pitcher. That is one start he will miss.
