Yeah, things of epic proportions are going to have to happen at this point. From a game out of 1st to 4th in 2 weeks. WTF! We had to deal with the Broncos doing this to us last year. And the Nuggets in the Freaking playoffs. The only sports pleasure I have had in a year was the overachieving of the Avs last year.

I need to stop being a sports fan because I sure as hell aren't going to root for other teams.

Default Ubaldo, Rockies back to form, rout Pirates at Coors Field

    http://www.denverpost.com/ci_15632275

At 11:34 a.m. today, Ubaldo Jimenez walked through the empty Rockies' clubhouse toward the lunch room. He looked like a man ready to devour not only the Pirates, but a bitter eight-game losing streak.

Latin music nearly shook the walls as Jimenez returned to his locker. There was a focus, a swagger about him that hinted that Thursday would be different.

It was. The Rockies delivered a few clutch hits and gave the ball to Jimenez, who suffocated the Pirates for seven innings in a 9-3 victory Thursday that allowed the reeling Rockies to exhale.

Jimenez bore a striking resemblance to the guy who started the All-Star Game and pitched two scoreless innings. He was strapped with a 7.64 ERA in his previous six starts.

But after a wobbly first inning that featured another bit hit from Garrett Jones, Jimenez settled down and settled in.

He allowed only two hits over his final six innings. He finished with 123 pitches, including a battery of filthy changeups, and just the one run allowed. For all the understandable hand-wringing about the right-hander, Jimenez is having a remarkable season when viewed through a broad prism.

He is now 16-2 with a 2.67 ERA. He sits one victory shy of the franchise's single-season record shared by Jeff Francis, Pedro Astacio and Kevin Ritz.

Jimenez, who appeared to be buckling under the strain of carrying the team in previous games, received plenty of support. The Rockies scored more than four runs for the first time in 10 days. The difference was easy to identify. The Rockies hit when it mattered most, pure and simple.

Through five innings, Colorado posted three two-out hits with runners in scoring position. Big deal? Well, they had seven hits in those situations on the 11-game road trip.

Slumping Dexter Fowler punched a two-run double and Clint Barmes followed with a two-run single, giving the Rockies' a comfortable 5-1 cushion after two innings.

The Rockies win coupled with the Giants' loss moved Colorado to within 5-1/2 games back in the wild-card race. That represents a reason for hope, that the ripcord has finally been pulled.

Even the Avs got off to a flying start and then slowly faded.

Every single team in Denver has pulled some sort of cocktease move on us in the last year.

At least the Buffs are just consistently bad.

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME

Game tied 5 - 5 going into the bottom of the 9th - first batter up - CARGO, and Drew and George said before he went to the plate - CARGO needs a homerun for the cycle, and what a better time to get it - WALK OFF HOME RUN FOR THE CYCLE, AND THE WIN - AND - FIRST PITCH - CARGO - HOMERUN INTO THE UPPER DECK

Still Larry Walker IMO until CarGo puts up a few more years of this kind of play.

Default Cargo named NL Player of the Week

    http://blogs.denverpost.com/rockies/...the-week/4492/

It was an idle moment at the All-Star Game, just chatting with Troy Tulowitzki about the Rockies, about their chances. I asked about Carlos Gonzalez getting snubbed for the all-star game.

“He’s the most talented player I have ever played with,” Tulowitzki said.

Gonzalez showed exactly why over the past several days. He was recognized for his brilliance, earning NL Player of the Week honors today.

“Well, that was expected,” Tulowitzki said today.

Gonzalez went 16-for-30 with four home runs. He also hit a walkoff home run to complete the cycle on Saturday, the first to do that since Boston’s Dwight Evans in 1984. Gonzalez is hitting .320, second in the NL behind the Reds’ Joey Votto.

Default DL likely for Fowler, Helton could be activated

    http://www.denverpost.com//ci_15659494

Even as the Rockies wait for MRI results, it likely won't change Dexter Fowler's fate. A source close to the outfielder said today that the disabled list remains likely after Fowler woke up sore today.

Fowler hurt his left ribs and left hip crashing into the Coors Field wall in the ninth-inning Sunday against the Cubs. His leaping grab preserved the lead, but came at a cost. Fowler crashed awkwardly into the wall, writhing in pain.

"Hey everyone, home laying down, Ribs are really sore," Fowler said on his Twitter account after the game. "Thanks for your prayers and support! Better be #1 on SC (SportsCenter)!"

If Fowler goes on the DL as expected, it could clear a roster spot for Todd Helton. He went 3-for-4 with three RBIs Sunday for the Casper Ghosts, continuing a successful rehab assignment. The Rockies have told Helton he can return when ready, and based on his results over the weekend he could be activated Tuesday if his back and hamstrings check out fine.

The Rockies, winners of four straight, begin a two-game series Tuesday against the rival San Francisco Giants at Coors Field. The Rockies are third in the National League West, trailing the San Diego Padres by seven games. They are 5 1/2 games out in the wild-card race.
