Thumbs up I Love The Banned/Suspended Members Thread

I just think it's so cool to see who has been given the hook and why. The vast majority of forum sites treat it like a secret society where the undesirables are simply eliminated and the official registrar denies their existence.

Here, it's like there's a Ring of Dishonor you can visit whenever you ask yourself "what happened to old so-and-so? He was such an a-hole." Here, there's a place where you can look up the answer, kinda like Wikipedia.

As an old girlfriend use to say, "Neat!"

Rather than being "censors", I tend to think the mods are like the refs we watch on Sundays, except they miss fewer calls.

Great idea, T-ned. Wish this idea would spread to other sites.

I do think members should have the option of receiving, via PM or email, the thread/post for which the poster was banned.

Some of us don't frequent the board every day so we miss out on all the entertainment...

That would be cool. Maybe an opt in forum that would contain a thread showing the posts in all of their glory. It would be interesting.

You are mistaken, especially because it's very rare that only one post is reason why a poster was banned.

The only discussion that will be had about why posters are banned is the banned/suspended member thread.

As Frau said, it is almost never a single post/thread. Unless it is the most egregious of posts (and we are talking BAD), no person is ever banned for one post. They have received warning, after warning, after warning. At a certain point, when all of those warnings have gone unheeded, the mods will get together and discuss the poster and decide what further action (stern final warning, short ban, long ban, perm ban, etc.) should be taken, and while they strive to reach complete consensus on it, at minimum the majority of mods must agree to any ban.

    Yeah, rules suck.

I mean, why should people actually be held accountable for their actions?

Hippies hate rules Slim. But you know that already. Yet the hippie in question persistently abides by the rules...a paradox, a puzzlement, a quandery

Those who can't work and play well with others are best removed from the group. I don't know why discussion forums attract trolls, race baiters and the socially dysfunctional but they always find them and they must either be removed or well-behaved members with thinner skins will leave.

I was a mod at a different site and we discussed one particular troublemaker who wanted to make every discussion about race. Our webmaster was very hesitant to ban anyone and had never done it before but when other members started leaving with some sending him "he goes or I go" messages first, the webmaster finally decided to ban the guy but I think we waited far too long and lost some good members who were just tired of his race-baiting schtick and went elsewhere.

IMO, you have to lay down the law to some people to maintain good membership overall or you suffer the consequences. What I like is that here the list is out in the open.

I miss MUG's contributions now that it's draft season. I think he got baited into some threats that were out of character for him. And I think MO and Dream were harmless--annoying maybe--but harmless. I don't think any of those three guys should have gotten permanent boots.

As for the rest of them, I can take em or leave em.
