Default Broncos Sign 3 To Futures Contracts

The team announced on Thursday that center Dustin Fry, guard Matt McChesney (pictured) and punter A.J. Trapasso have been signed to future contracts. They will be officially added to Denver’s roster at the conclusion of the 2009 NFL season in February.

Fry is a second-year center who spent the 2009 season on Carolina’s practice squad. He appeared in four games with St. Louis after being selected in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft, and spent time on the practice squad with Cleveland in 2008.

McChesney spent 2009 training camp with the team before being designated released/injured on Sep. 9. He has also played defensive tackle during an NFL career in which he has seen time on the rosters of Miami, the New York Jets and St. Louis.

Trapasso was a rookie in 2009 who split the season on the practice squad with Tampa Bay and Tennessee. He entered the NFL with Tennessee as a college free agent on May 1 after being a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award at Ohio State University. He might be best remembered for hitting the video board at the new Cowboys Stadium with a punt for the Titans in the preseason.

McChesney has the best chance to stick, but all 3 will get a long look. McChesney was in training camp with the Broncos this year and had it not been for injury, might have had a chance to stick. He plays a physical style with a nasty disposition, and at 6'4 310 pounds, has decent size for the system we run.

AJ Trapasso might be best known for the fake punt TD in the Hall of Fame game this last year, but should give Colquitt a run for his money in the preseason. It also signifies that the Broncos may not be looking to draft a punter in the upcoming draft. Trapasso was awarded the Mosi Tatupu award for outstanding special teams player in 2006.

Dustin Fry, at 6'3 326 pounds, would be the biggest center I can remember the Broncos ever having in camp.

The other thing that these moves show me is that the Broncos are wasting no time in bringing in players to compete at positions of weakness on this roster.

I seem to remember him being pretty good at the U.

His fatality was the best. Sticks his two blades in your chest then lifts you up as your dead body slides down his blades.

    Baraka wins.
    The Plan at the moment:

Draft: Trade a 3rd and 6th this year to a team to move up and get a 2nd next year (this will happen).

    Players I want:
Jake Ferguson (Jake Butt) or Jelani Woods or Jeremy Ruckert or Cade Otten (owen daniels) at TE- All 4th rd or later.
Troy Anderson LB 3rd/4th rd (yay Timmy!)
Neil Farrell, JR DL- run stuffer- bye purcell

he has the size nolan wants at OLB-- they're probably bringing him in to see if he can fill jarvis moss' spot on the depth chart. . . most likely a camp body, it's at least worth kicking the tires of a guy who's still young and was thought to have potential coming out of college. . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

Another lame duck signing. When is Denver going to sign a guy of Damarcus Ware quality during this late season-off season free agency period?

As do many of us. Denver signed 2 beefy boys at G and C last week. The pickings are slim right now, but the FO is doing what they can.

    Default 2010 Offseason signings

Broncos sign DE Atkins to futures contract
    By Jeff Legwold
    The Denver Post
    POSTED: 01/15/2010 01:04:50 AM MST
    UPDATED: 01/15/2010 01:05:14 AM MST

The Broncos added their eighth "futures" player Thursday, signing outside linebacker-defensive end Baraka Atkins.

Atkins, at 6-foot-4, 268 pounds, was a fourth-round pick by the Seahawks in the 2007 draft. He played in 21 games in his two seasons in Seattle before spending time with the 49ers this past season.

Atkins has played as a rush end in a 4-3 scheme as well as an outside linebacker in a 3-4. He was a four-year starter at Miami who played his senior season as a graduate student having already earned his degree in business management.

He ran a 4.69 40-yard dash at the scouting combine leading up to the '07 draft after he had weighed in at 271 pounds there. Atkins had two sacks for the Seahawks in the '08 season to go with 18 tackles, his best season as a pro.
