Does the ref carry a bag of spare pucks like how a ump carries baseballs?
-
no, they drop a new one from the roof. Like bubble hockey

Let's do this. They keep them at the scorers table/booth and hand them to the refs when another is needed.
Remember when Fox had the puck tracker for a while? That thing was hideous but maybe could have been better if it weren't so distracting.

yeah, the extra pucks are kept cold in the scorekeepers area. The pucks are kept cold because once the warm up they get bouncy.
The ref's always keep a set of balls in their pants though.
The Fox puck tracker. LMAO This is the broadcasting that repeatedly state how they can tell what kind of pitch was thrown by looking at the way the seams turn on a ball going between 70-100 mph but they couldn't see a black ******* puck on white ice.

I had a pretty sweet mullet too. I'll see if I can find one from high school.

So when play stops do they switch to a cold puck? Is there a slot in the glass or something?

Sometimes. But usually during TV timeouts the ref will just set the puck on the faceoff circle on the ice to keep it cold.
There is a hole in the glass where the refs talk to the scorers.
