According to an NFL Network article I read the two best OL’s in football are playing in the SB.

This is where it gets interesting; Payton has traditionally valued G’s too. He’s had great G’s over his tenure as HC. Jarhi Evans, Carl Nicks, Cesar Ruiz is a young example.

I think the sweet spot--aside from all-pros everywhere--is dominant LT, Solid RT, one great guard, one solid guard, and a center who is competent. That's what SF had down to a tee (I'm in the camp that McGlinchey is a little overrated, and I think that the tape makes that clear) and Philly has. Albeit Philly is swapped with arguably the best RT of the century and a good but not great LT. The real key is all of those guys being competent in pass pro and run pro as well.

Where I struggle is the cost of those guys after their first contract. I'll pay for a LT without hesitating. The Cowboys, Titans, Raiders, Browns, and others have choked on costs building the 'uber guard and LT' line. They also had other issues: CLE had no QB, Tenn has no QB, the line is aging (IIRC) and they play 70's ball, the cowboys pay RBS, etc. On the flip side, the Niners have never had to pay top dollar for a QB, etc. Then you sprinkle in the Colts who only built a line....after the transcendent QB retired because he wanted to live a long life.
