I hate living in areas without women. I lived in 29 Palms, CA in the middle of the desert for a number of years. There were 30,000 people in the town and around 20k of that was Marines. If there was an attractive woman there, she was already taken as someone brought her there. Even if you're not trying to date or whatever, it's nice to have the company of a woman every now and again.
Trust me, I have a real love/hate thing going with Fairbanks (most of us do), but it IS the most beautiful place I've ever lived. With Ft. Wainwright and Eielson AFB, it is also a military town...one more reason we call it "Mantown" (well...that and an absence of women.)
This is true... So, Alaska huh? I don't know if I could live up there. I have a friend that moved up there to work in some state park a few years ago and decided to stay permanently.
As long as you're pulling duty, you might as well make friends...
