After completing training camp with the Broncos, rookie punter Britton Colquitt is returning to the club for the stretch run.

Denver announced the signing of Colquitt to its active roster on Wednesday from Miami’s practice squad. Colquitt entered the league with the Broncos as a college free agent on April 27, but was waived on Sept. 1, just before final roster cutdowns. The rookie was out of football until Dec. 22, when the Dolphins picked him up.

Colquitt competed in three preseason games for the Broncos. He booted six punts for 246 yards, with four of those kicks landing inside the 20-yard line. Colquitt also showed his versatility against the Seahawks on Aug. 22, converting a 39-yard field goal at Qwest Field.

A product of the University of Tennessee, Colquitt appeared in 43 games for the Volunteers, punting 209 times for 8,897 yards. Of those kicks, 73 landed inside the 20-yard line and only one was blocked. Colquitt also handled kickoff duties during his time in the SEC.

More to come on this story after today’s press conferences.

I can't imagine them carrying both Berger and Colquitt on the active roster. Possibly a kick off this week during practices, and then one of them goes.

I think we do. Its the last game of the season and jarvis will probably get the bench for it........sad when you are a 1st rdr and get benched for a punter who sucks so bad that he is now relegated to "holding" duties on Field goals.

Colquitt signs, but Berger keeps jobComment Email Print Share Associated Press

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos have signed rookie punter Britton Colquitt from Miami's practice squad, although coach Josh McDaniels said slumping veteran Mitch Berger will punt in the season finale Sunday against Kansas City.

Colquitt was originally signed by the Broncos as a college free agent out of Tennessee after the NFL draft in April. He was waived on the final roster cut-down after Brett Kern won the starting job.

Kern was jettisoned at midseason in favor of Berger, who started slowly, picked up steam and then regressed over the last two weeks, averaging 35.4 and 32.4 net yards in losses to Oakland and Philadelphia.

May not be Jarvis - a few minutes ago, Mike Evans FM104.3TheFan just stated that Sandy Clough just passed on to him, that Tony Scheffler will be practicing with the scout team this week, and will be a "healthy" scratch for the game Sunday. Then Evans added - this does not look good for Tony being with the Broncos next year.

Despite plenty of signs to the contrary, Mitch Berger will continue to be the Broncos' punter Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

For a few hours there, it appeared the Broncos punter might get the boot. First, Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said at his press conference Monday that he wasn't happy with Berger's performance during the team's 30-27 loss to Philadelphia.

"We did not punt the ball particularly well," McDaniels said Monday. "We didn't allow many return yards, but still didn't affect field position the way that we would hope to."

Then, the team on Tuesday brought in rookie punter Britton Colquitt, officially signing him to their 53-man roster Wednesday.

But McDaniels said Wednesday that Berger

would be his punter Sunday in the regular-season finale against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Colquitt apparently was signed for future considerations as there are no plans to activate him on the 45-man game day roster.

"Berger's still punting," McDaniels said. So why re-sign Colquitt, who was cut in training camp?

A big reason is Berger is 37, and unlikely to return to the Broncos next year. So if the Broncos are going to need a punter for next season, why not get him now?

"We never stop trying to improve the team or look as we move forward," McDaniels said.
