Chargers QB Philip Rivers (Denver Post file photo)It's becoming clearer which teams the Broncos will have to hold off — or overcome, depending on your optimism — to qualify for the NFL playoffs.

With three weeks remaining, the Broncos are two games behind surging San Diego, and an automatic playoff berth, in the AFC West. But Denver leads all contenders in the AFC wild-card race.

There are four teams with a legitimate shot at catching the Broncos (8-5) in the conference standings: Jacksonville (7-6), Baltimore (7-6), Miami (7-6) and the New York Jets (7-6).

Pittsburgh (6-7), Tennessee (6-7) and Houston (6-7) also could contend with some serious help.

The most likely scenario sees the Broncos earning the top wild-card berth, which would set them up to face New England (8-5) in the first round. Of course, that scenario requires the Patriots, losers of two of their past three games, not to collapse down the stretch.

The list of AFC contenders, with remaining games:

Clinched:

Indianapolis ... 13-0 ... at Jacksonville, N.Y. Jets, at Buffalo

Leading divisions:

San Diego ... 10-3 ... Cincinnati, at Tennessee, Washington

Cincinnati ... 9-4 ... at San Diego, Kansas City, at N.Y. Jets

New England ... 8-5 ... at Buffalo, Jacksonville, at Houston

Wild cards:

Denver ... 8-5 ... Oakland, at Philadelphia, Kansas City

Jacksonville ... 7-6 ... Indianapolis, at New England, at Cleveland

Chasing:

Baltimore ... 7-6 ... Chicago, at Pittsburgh, at Oakland

Miami ... 7-6 ... at Tennessee, Houston, Pittsburgh

N.Y. Jets ... 7-6 ... Atlanta, at Indianapolis, Cincinnati

Also:

Pittsburgh ... 6-7 ... Green Bay, Baltimore, at Miami

Tennessee ... 6-7 ... Miami, San Diego, at Seattle

Houston ... 6-7 ... at St. Louis, at Miami, New England

I call: Broncos at 10-6, and Ravens at 9-7. Pats should go 9-7.

Just who do you see the Ravens losing to? The Steelers, Bears, or Raiders? Personally, I don't see them falling to any of those teams.

Steelers may beat them. Bears might too. Teams that have little to play for are the most dangerous, and the Steelers aren't out of it yet...

The Bears are dreadful right now. The Steelers MAY beat them because divisional games on the road are always tough, but I would be shocked if the Bears beat them. They are playing like one of the 5 or 6 worst teams in the league right now.

I would love to get NE in the first round. I like our chances there.

I do think they lose to Pitt in Pittsburgh. It just depends how desperate the Steelers become.

I CAN see:

SD-1-2
Cincy-3-0
NE-3-0

DEN-3-0 (actually 2-1)
JAx-1-2
BAl-2-1
MIA-1-2
NYJ-0-3

So teams will finish like this in my world.

SD-11-5
CINCY-12-4
NE-11-5
DEN-11-5 (prob 10-6)
JAx-8-8
Balt-9-7
MIA-8-8
NYJ-7-9

Which i suppose would mean cincy would take the bye?, and we would be home against......the bolts??? Ah whatever, i wont figure that out, but thats how i see the teams finishing out.

The good thing about Indy, The Pats, Cincy, Sandieggo and the other wild card team?

We have the ability to beat them all if we play well.

Denver would go to NE, Balt to SD. You could then see Denver to Cinnci and Balt to Indy. If Bal and Denver win, the Afcc would be in Denver with Balt. I could live with that......:elefant:

that sounds pretty good. I would really really love to face the bolts in playoffs, but NE would be second best.

Either way you KNOW josh mf mcdaniels will have the team pumped like no other!!!

I think they are more than capable losing to the Steelers and I thought that the Raiders might even have chance until Gradkowski got hurt.
