With the '00's coming to a close, I thought it would be neat to look back at your favorite movies of the last ten years. I'm gonna start with my favorite from each year, but I'll add more as I think of them.

2000- Gladiator
Brought back good period piece epic movies, and ancient Rome is one of my favorite eras. Good mix of violence, humor, and drama.

2001- Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
I had to re-read the books after I saw this. It was amazing how much of the spirit of the books was kept in the movies. Great casting, too.

2002- Spiderman
Brought comic book movies back from the dead and paved the way for a renaissance of good comic movies like Batman Begins and Iron Man.

2003- Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
This movie came out of nowhere and was really fun. And it gave Johnny Depp some much needed recognition as a character actor.

2004- The Incredibles
Still my favorite Pixar movie. A new classic, IMO.

2005- Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
The best of the prequels and on par with the original trilogy. The only PG-13 Star Wars movie and one of the best.

2006- Casino Royale
The best Bond since Goldeneye. Much closer to the Ian Fleming books than any of the other movies.

2007- 300
Visually groundbreaking and beautifully gory. Still stands up after multiple viewings.

2008- Gran Torino
Clint Eastwood proves once again why he is a national treasure.

2009-District 9
Best true sci-fi movie in a long time. I think this will be a benchmark movie in 10 years.

EDIT: If you need help remembering what came out when, check the yearly list: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/

A bit hard for me to choose just one, so I'll throw 3 or so a year out there.

2000: A toss up for me between Gladiator, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, X-Men(I'm a sucker for Wolverine) and Remember The Titans

2001: LOTR, Black Hawk Down, Training Day(something about a bad Denzel is chilling), Ali (Will Smith was awesome) and Legally Blonde

2002: Ice Age, Blade 2, Sweet Home Alabama (Josh Lucas AND Patrick Dempsey)

2003: LOTR: Return of the King, Pirates of the Caribbean (Jack Sparrow is awesome), Seabiscuit, Love Actually and Underworld

2004: Day After Tomorrow, National Treasure, Hellboy

2005: Batman Begins, Madagascar, March of the Penguins, Memoirs of a Geisha, Serenity and Sin City

2006: DaVinci Code, The Devil Wears Prada, Underworld Evolution, Pan's Labyrinth and We Are Marshall

2007: Transformers, Live Free and Die Hard, Hot Fuzz

2008: The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Mamma Mia

2009: Star Trek, Watchmen, The September Issue

Good list. I'd like to throw in as well with The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Watchmen, Blade 1 and 2 and and X Men 1 and 2. All were great comic book movies.

Some more honorable mentions from me would be Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (a lot of people hated that movie, but it really clicked with me), UP!, The Hangover, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and There Will be Blood. I'll think of more, I'm sure...

Gone Baby Gone in 2007 should have won Best Picture IMHO over Departed.

Not a bad list Shake. Here's mine but ive added some areas that needed to be noted. But we will start with my top 10 best overall movies.

1. The Dark Knight
(Some would elude that the death of Ledge made this movie more than it is. I heard the same things about "The Crow" when Brandon Lee passed away during the making of the film as well. But no, both individuals in both circumstances to me put up their best work of their careers and would of catapulted them to greater things in my opinion. Ledger was flat out phenomenal in this film.)

2. Gladiator
(Russell Crowe excells in this film. The atomsphere and execution of how this movie was made is excellent. Probably drags on more than it should but i would rather have everything covered than make it too short and lose the luster of a great performance.)

3. Brotherhood of the Wolf
(Aside from "The Crow", this movie is one of my favorites of alltime. It has everything you could possibly ask for in a film, humor, drama, horror, romance, and great fighting scenes. Having been one to have actually seen it in the theaters when it was subtitled i was thankful that the DVD had it translated to english to avoid that in the future.)

4. Remember the Titans
(Never thought this movie would of made my top 10 considering all the good movies that were made in this decade but it is certainly worthy after much thought. Denzel puts on his best acting ability and the story itself is something that american society in general should learn to practice and think about on a daily basis. The fact that a small group of kids both white and black could learn to co-exist back when race was much more intolerant should speak volumes for the nation today.)

5. The Illusionist
(Edward Norton has quietly become one of my favorite actors in recent years. His work in "American History X was outstanding. This film is no different although the show was pretty much stolen by Paul Giamatti for his role in the film. Never the less, a very stunning Jessica Biel and fantastic storyline with twists and turns makes this an easy choice for me.)

6. The Prestige
(Who would of thought that Hugh Jackman would make it into my top 10 and it not be one of the X-men films? Having been released around the same time as "The Illuionist" this movie was equally as exciting and entertaining on all levels with the same amount of twists in its own right. Both Jackman and Bale put on some of their best performances in this film.)

7. Gangs of New York
(Another film that i would of never thought to make it in my top 10 was "Gangs of New York". But i cant deny the outstanding performance of Daniel Day Lewis. Some will think that he was much better in "There Will Be Blood" but i highly disagree. Lewis was born for the role of "The Butcher" in this film and easily stomps a mudhole in and not so impressive DiCaprio for me here. But the story is great and well acted and executed.)

8. Basic
(Vastly underrated and overlooked is "Basic" starring John Travolta. Its a very clever cat and mouse type of movie that has you guessing all the way to the end. It has a very good supporting cast to go along with it.)

9. Equilibrium
(Looks like Christian Bale has had a great decade for me. This movie having gone totally under the radar is far more superb than any "Matrix" film although the stories are very different. But, i only make the comparison because of the similiar looking uniforms worn in the movies. This movie is a like a modern day "Fahrenheit 451".)

10. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
(Last but not least, the best of the Star Wars Series. Who can deny that when Anakin transforms over to the darkside it would not be the most intriguing part of the storyline? With great special effects and strong performances it easily outshines most action based movies of this decade.)

Best Trilogys or series:
Every one of these series is gold to me.

The Bourne Identity Trilogy
(Without a doubt the best series of the decade. Great action and superb storyline.)

Lord of the Rings Trilogy
(Very well done, a bit slow in some parts but overall done the way this series should be done.)

Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy
(Never thought i would like this initially, but how could i have been kidding myself? Its Johnny Depp?lol)

Underworld Trilogy
(Pisses me off that i had an idea like this for a film back in 90'. Should of followed up on it and made millions. Great work and effects never the less but my version would of been more intrigueing methinks.)

Best Comedies:

Step Brothers
(From the beginning i thought Chris Katan would be the better comdian out of the SNL duo of Katan/Ferrell. However, Ferrell has had the better career and this movie is at the very top of the list of greatness.)

Hot Fuzz
Shaun of the Dead
(Yea, lookout folks. Simon Pegg (Star Trek's Scotty) is the face of the future in regards to off the wall comedy and these two films are the creme of the crop for him.)

Superbad
(Words cant be said to how great this film is.)

Napolean Dynamite
(Took me a couple of times to really understand the point of this film. Once i realized there
was none i had no problem having it become one of my favorite comedies.)

Joe Dirt
(Outside of Tommy Boy, David Spade has his unicorn with this flick.)

Grandma's Boy
(Could of easily gone under the underrated as not too many people are aware of this film. Never the less, its the best one on this list hands down.)

Bedazzled
(This remake is just awesome. Some of Brandon Frazier's best work and Hurley is just outstanding (and hot) in this film.)

Waiting
(If Dane Cook has one solid film its this one.)

Zack and Miri make a Porno
(Oh yea, Seth Rogan is a genius. A must have for any Rogan fan.)

Best Martial Arts Films:

Kiss of the Dragon
(Very underrated and appreciated Jet Li flim. Also has some fine work from Bridget Fonda. Yea, forgot about her didnt you?)

Ong Bak
Ong Bak2
The Protector
(Im stoked about this new kid on the block Tony Jaa. Remember that name because he is the future of martial arts folks.)

Curse of the Golden Flower
(Obviously, more people are enthralled with Chow Yun-Fat's work with "Crouching Tiger". However, i feel his best work is in this film which i felt was really the better between these two works.)

The Forbidden Kingdom
(I think many people were excited when they saw that Jet Li and Jackie Chan got together for this flick. Not quite as good as one would hope but definitely worthwhile and a keeper.)

Best Underrated Movies:

Dog Soldiers
(Most underrated werewolf movie of alltime. Its cheesy but is easily one of my favorite films.)

Troy
(One of Brad Pitt's finest works.)

Inside Man
(Almost made my top 10, very clever movie with type of ending that works for everyone.)

Spy Game
(Redford is brilliant, Pitt does a good job as well in this spy thrille.r)

The Game Plan
(I dont care what anyone says, The Rock Dwayne Johnson has his finest work here in this Disney comedy.)

Serenity
(This Joss Whedon flick was based off the short tv series "Firefly". Very good sci-fi for a low budget film.)

Fido
(Believe it or not, in the last decade there have been some really clever and great Zombie movies to have been released (Zombie Strippers, Zombieland, American Zombie). But "Fido" takes the cake as it shows how people can train and use the zombies as slaves to do everyday chores and activities by using a collar created to control them. However, when the collar is broken you can see the problems that can happen. But set in a stage setting of like the 1950's or 60's it makes for a riot of a film.

Best Cartoon/Animated movies:

Ice Age
(When you can get the voices of Dennis Leary and John Leguizamo in the same film you just cannot fail.)

Cars
(Cant really explain why i like this film so much but whenever it comes on i cant stop watching it.)

Happy Feet
(Another great film but has more to do with the graphics when watching it on the right tv.)

Finding Nemo
(By far my favorite of the decade, dazzling effects and graphics and just a great movie to boot.)

Ratatouille
(Very cool work and great storyline. It was quite a surprise to me when i first saw it.)

Notable mentions:

Gran Torino
(Eastwood has done so many great flicks and "Gran Torino" was outstanding. It was very close to becoming a top 10 for me.)

Casino Royale
(Certainly the best James Bond film since "Octopussy".)

The Watchmen
(Many probably would be shocked that this film didnt make my top 10 because of my admiration for the oustanding performance of Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach in the film. However, despite the very thought provoking that it invokes its almost more of a thinking movie than a true action film. Which isnt bad but just couldnt overcome the other films i chose.)

3:10 to Yuma
(Great western remake involving Russell Crowe and Christian Bale. Fantastic ending.)

Boondock Saints 2
(Took them forever to complete the sequel but it was worth it.)

Batman Begins
(I love the darker version of batman. Its very rare when the sequel or sequels outdo the original but "The Dark Knight" did eclipse this one by a hair.)

The Departed
(Very strong cast of actors/actresses. Great film and probably deserves a spot in someone's top 10 but again, just too many to choose from.)

Taken
(One of Neeson's finest works for me. Just the right amount of action and a great ending to leave the viewer quite happy. I look forward to Neeson's role in the upcoming remake of "Clash of the Titans".)

300
(Gerard Butler excells in his role as the Spartan King Leonidas with great comic graphics and fighting sequences.)

The Sum of All Fears

2003
Runaway Jury
The Core(vastly underrated movie with excellent special effects)

2004
Troy
Man on Fire

2005
King Kong(I know, but I thought it was well done overall...though too long).

2007
Gone Baby Gone. I'm amazed this movie is not even on the top 100 link the TO posted.

How did I forget TROY!

Apart from being well made, it was HUGE eye candy!

Happy Feet, Robin Williams totally steals the show, and Steve Irwin as the seagull rocks!

Here's some movies that come to mind immediately for me...

Road to Perdition, Minority Report, Children of Men, There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men, Pan's Labyrinth, Oldboy, Taxi to the Dark Side (documentary, really), Paradise Now, Eastern Promises, 2:37, Lost in Translation, Gladiator.

Bunch of other genuinely great movies but I really like these ones.

I'm going to use the one movie a year format, I don't have the patience to put a Northman style review on it!

2000 - Gladiator - This movie makes me tear up a little, great work visually, and it just resonates throughout the entire film.

2001 - The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - What's there to say about this film that hasn't already been said? Amazingly cast, fairly true to the books, and just stunning in terms of presentation and detail.

2002 - Spider-man - Took the comic book to another level, while X-Men was good, this one appealed to the masses. It's influence on the other comic book movies today is amazing.

2003 - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl - Depp deserves all the recognition he can get for all of his movies, but these put him in the spotlight. He will go down as one of the better actors of this generation.

2004 - Troy - You could make a case for a couple movies this decade, but Troy was an underappreciated work IMO. Pitt was fantastic, the story was good, and it was a very good movie all around.

2005 - Batman Begins - Resurrected the Dark Knight, and gave audiences something to think about. Not every comic book character is cut and dry, but this story made everyone forget that we had 3 crappy Batman movies before this one.

2006 - The Departed - This was an amazing tale of the inner workings of a crime setup. Great story, amazing actors, and it is so well written, it still is one of my all time favorite movies. I started to hate Leo a little less after this film.

2007 - 300 - Visually stunning, the story telling was out of this world as well. This is Sparta!

2008 - Iron Man - Downey as Tony Stark is a crazy good casting, it's basically his real life persona with all the other madness added on. This put Downey back on the map, and took the comic book genre to another level.

2009 - Star Trek - It put the wow back in the franchise, and even though the franchise was reserved for a specific niche, it brought a ton of new blood into the franchise.

My favorite movies of this decade have been the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies, so I won't list them below, just know that if one came out that year it would be on the list.

2000- Gladiator/Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon/Traffic/Meet the Parents

2001- Blackhawk Down/Evolution/Joe Dirt/Memento

2002- City of God/Spiderman/The Bourne Identity/8 Mile/Count of Monte Cristo

2003- Old School/Underworld/28 Days Later

2004- Passion of the Christ/Spiderman 2/Bourne Supremacy/Troy/National Treasure/I, Robot/Million Dollar Baby/Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind/Napoleon Dynomite/Hotel Rwanda (lots of good movies this year)

2005- King Kong/Batman Begins/Wedding Crashers/40 Year-Old Virgin/

2006- Casino Royale/Borat/Click/The Departed/Inside Man

2007- No Country for Old Men/3:10 to Yuma/The Kingdom

2008- Dark Knight/Iron Man/Gran Torino/Slumdog Millionare/Forgetting Sarah Marshall

2009- The Hangover/Star Trek/
