I knew the argument was bullshit.
She got caught in a lie (her coach was coaching), and instead of just shutting the **** up she had a hissy fit, like she has before, when she's gotten her ass kicked. Her display was embarrassing and ruined Osaka's first grand slam title. It was ******* ridiculous.

Explain this sport to me, someone.
Each game is play to 4, only can win if up two. So, tied at 4, someone must win two straight points and they play on until someone does.
(The lingo is love (zero), 15, 30, 40, 40-40 is “deuce,” Ad is the person who won the deuce point, if they win the next point the game is over, if they don’t, it goes back to deuce.)
Each one of those is a point towards the set. Play to six, win by two, most tournaments force a tiebreak at 6-6, but a player can win a set 7-5.
Tiebreaks are play to 7, must win by two. If it gets to 7-7 in a tiebreak, the rules are the exact same as the deuce rules.
Best of three sets, or best of five. They only break out best of five for the men in the four majors.

Play surface is extremely important. Grass and hard court are more similar than clay. Clay court specialists are a thing.
I still never figured out the grunting thing. I played. People don’t grunt that expressively normally. You have to consciously do it. Thanks Monica Seles.

The GOAT discussion is interesting. Nadal and Federer have pretty clearly established themselves as the two best ever in my opinion. Federer has more overall success, but Nadal has dominated him head to head most of their careers. I prefer Nadal but I'm admittedly biased there.

I don't think roddick is in that class. He had a nice career, but I'd put him in the second tier historically. He just had too short of a run being at the top of the tennis world and just didn't have the same level of success winning Grand Slams as those other guys.

To be such a non factor on one of the 3 major surfaces and to only have one title makes it hard for me to put you in the top tier historically. He was a very good player, but you have to draw the GOAT line somewhere, and it's hard for me to put him over that line.

Fair enough. In any case, it's quite possible that the top 3 in the current rankings might just be the top 3 of all time. We've been truly blessed in this era of tennis. If you take any two of Nadal, Federer, Djokovic out of this era, the one left probably has over 30 Grand Slam titles and is undisputed goat. https://www.theperspective.com/debates/sports/federer-best-tennis-player-time/
Federer plays the most beautiful and elegant tennis ever
There are few things in sports as aesthetically pleasing as Federer’s tennis game. His flair and creativity are phenomenal, while his movement is economical, in that he doesn’t run as far or as much as his rivals. His single-handed backhand is poetry; a thing of beauty; an all-time classic. In fact, every aspect of his game is executed effortlessly, with much style and grace.
American statesman Henry Clay once said: “Statistics are no substitute for judgment.” Following this logic, if Federer`s 20 Grand Slams are not good enough proof that he is the greatest player ever, the way he plays is. From an abstract perspective, it’s the magic he produces when he plays that settles this kind of debate.

FWIW, I have no issue with the pats pushing the rules to their advantage in game. Literally all 32 teams probably yet that. If Nadal were filming his opponent's practice or tampering with the balls then yes, I'd have as big as issue with him as the pats. This US Open has been great so far. A lot of intense matchups. Djokovic is probably gonna end up winning the one he's playing now, but it's 1 set each and not a walk in the park for Novak. Lots of hard fought rallies.
Emma Raducanu fever taking over the airwaves here!
Refreshing to have two teens in the final.
Plus he has the hair required for any tennis superstar.

But the big question is, does he have the bladder?

The mens side is incredibly boring to watch, and there are almost no big names worth rooting for. Djokovic is not all that likable, and neither are any of his closest competitors like Tsit, Medvedev, Zverev, etc.
There's a couple second/third tier players that are likable (Berrettini, Felix, to name a couple), but none that can compete with Novak.
I miss the days when most of the top mens players were likable - Federer, Nadal, Del Potro, Murray, Wawrinka, etc.
The women's draw has been way more entertaining to watch, and most of aren't aren't actively unlikable.

So true.
I like some of the youngsters a bit more, Dennis Shapovalov I enjoyed at Wimbledon.
Also the promising American Sebastian Korda, but didn't he go out in round 1 or something at the U.S?
Stoked that terrestrial TV has reached a deal with Amazon so we can watch the Women's Final tonight.
Who you rooting for in this final today Abe?

I think both are delightful and joyful so I just want a good tight 3 setter.
But I think I'll pull for Fernandez! I've seen more of her matches this tournament, she's beaten all of these highly ranked stars, she has a great family story, and she just looks like she's having so much fun out there.
You?

She's very likeable isn't she.
I've seen a lot wish that both could win.

Same. I do think Emma has a better game and fresher legs, so I would expect her to take this one, but I just want them both to do well. No blowouts!

You're getting your wish.
This first set is a battle, so intense.

Was a great match, happy for both of them. Emma's a beast. Leylah's speech and mention of 9/11 and NYC got me teary eyed for sure.

Me too.
Such a great standard of tennis and the way they conducted themselves.
Hope they go on to develop a great rivalry. Leylah deserves success too.

Djokovic breaking a racket in frustration down a set after losing some break points.
After watching this match I might come to like Medvedev!

Djoker has a mountain to climb!
He can do it, but not with Medvedev playing as well as he is. We'll se if he can hold against Med serving for the second set!
You can never count him out.

Would be amazing for him to come back and pull a 5 setter win out of here. Medvedev can't let the nerves get to him.

Medvedev has let Djokovic and the crowd get to him!
Is this the first time Novak has ever had the vast majority of the crowd support in such a bigtime match?
Wow, didn't see that straight set defeat coming.

Kinda feels awkward, like the whole crowd is unhappy that Medvedev won. I kinda feel like he isn't really able to enjoy this like he should because of the crowd and the stakes for the guy on the other side.

That sucks for him.

I do think this will go down as the day that tennis fans learned to love Djokovic because we finally saw him as human. In the end, I think it's a better long-term outcome for him than if he were to win this one.
Kinda would like it if Joker, Fed and Nadal would remain tied at 20 each.

Been enjoying Wimbledon. First Arabic and African finalist on the women's side representing Tunisia...and she's the nicest person ever. I hope she wins the final.
Rafa is a badass still, I hope he or Kygrios wins. Anybody but Djokovic.
