Russell will be released at season's end, without penalty against the salary cap... since there won't be any. He's free with all that arm strumph.

You know what? I'm not 100% sure I agree. Orton has shown me enough this year to think that perhaps with a good offensive coach he could be a legit starter.
Perhaps Shanahan could have made him into a first or at least a second rate QB. Look what happened to Cutler after he lost Shanahan after all - the guy is a dud in Chicago.

I think the problem there is kind of the same as here. Square peg, round hole.
Orton sucks, he will never get it done. He had another average mediocre day.
