What was the last concert you went to, or what concert are you going to see?

Mine was Tool @ the Pepsi Center-- Great show, but not as good as their Colo Springs show a few months earlier... Danny Carey is a drumming machine and Maynard is one of my fav. vocalists.

I've got my Avenged Sevenfold tickets & my Marilyn Manson tickets for shows in February... Twiggy's back!

Tori Amos and Ben Folds.

2003 or 2004?

Folds is a funny, foul mouthed guy. Interesting melodies.

Amos is more cryptic, and I find her music avant-garde at times, but she is one hell of a piano player.

Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, Bullet for my Valentine last night at the Fillmore...

Missed most of Bullet's set, but caught the end... Atreyu impressed the hell out of me mostly because the drummer rips his double bass and sings almost every song... And well too. It's impressive.

A7x was good too, as expected. It was the first date of the tour so it was cool because the bands were all into it, but lame because they were having some audio difficulties early on.

Yeah Jack White is awesome. He saves lives in his spare time too.

Jack White saved a fainting fan at at The Raconteurs gig last Tuesday (April 29).

The girl fainted at The Uptown Theater in Kansas City.

According to sources, White came offstage in the middle of playing 'Carolina Drama' and picked the fainting girl up. He handed her to security where they escorted her backstage.

White then came back onstage and finished the track.

Member of the audience KevRocket wrote to the Back To Rockville blog: "I knew something was wrong when Jack came to the edge of the stage.

"I was surprised when he ended up picking this girl up and out of harm's way. I have seen a lot of concerts, and that was a first."

Saw Slipknot and Disturbed yesterday...

Not a huge fan of Disturbed's whole "schtick" but they do have some songs I dig. They had a good set.

Slipknot was bad ass, but they didn't come on until like friggin 10:15 PM. I was a little spent by then, and in the back of my head I knew that I'd be getting up for work tired and hungover, so I think that prevented me from enjoying it as much as I could have. They played a really hard set, lots of songs that just kick your ass. I like some of their more melodic stuff (if you can describe any of slipknots songs as melodic), so I would have liked to see a few different tunes, like Wait & Bleed.

Still, a good show... Much better than that hippy fest going on at Dick's on Sunday :D

I have to say considering how decent Nirvana was the Foo Fighters are a really really good band. I dont own any of their material but every single that has come out is solid stuff. Grohl is a great singer and performer.

He is obviously really talented to master two different instruments well enough to play them in two different successful bands, and sing lead as well.

I have three of their albums and enjoyed them all.

Grohl really is intent on making sure that the audience is fully involved in the show. He gets everyone involved, and that makes the show even that much better.

Watched DMB last night. Great show, as always. This was the 12th or 13th time my wife and myself have seen Dave Matthews Band live, and they never dissappoint.

Two great covers of Peter Gabriel/Talking Heads songs. "Burning Down the House" was just off the hook, and then they played "Sledgehammer" during their encore.

2 1/2 hours of all the best songs. They even opened up with "Seek Up" which is probably my favorite song of theirs.

LeRoi Moore wasn't there after being hurt on an ATV earlier this year, but Jeff Coffin (sp?) from Bela Fleck's band filled in admirably, and Tim Reynolds was along for some awesome guitar playing.

Went to Nine Inch Nails at Red Rocks last night...

Great show, though definitely a departure from any NIN I've been to previously. Great light/effects, probably the best I've ever seen. They played like a 2+ hour set, so that was pretty bad ass, though for the first hour or so I probably only recognized about 3-4 songs because they were playing a bunch of new tunes, including a couple off their instrumental album.

Still, it was bad ass to see Robin Fink back in the band. My only complaint was the song where trent was on the xylophone and fink on some sort of flute... I about fell asleep. I respect the fact that Trent continues to reinvent himself, but I'd prefer they stick to guitar.

Shake, I think you were at the show last night too, what did you think?

The concert was pretty mellow for the most part until Five Finger got on stage. They turned that whole place in to one mass of brutality, but it was a good show. They played "The Bleeding" for the encore and the whole place went nuts. In This Moment was the highlight for me. I think Maria Brink is amazingly sexy.

I'm getting too ******* old to go to these smaller metal shows-- or getting too old to be at the front anyway... It was rough, and about the 3rd time the whole crowd fell on itself I headed to the bar on the side of the venue... About halfway through Mudvayne's set.

Highlights of the show were World So Cold, which is an epic song... Along with -1, Dig and Happy?

10 Years was actually pretty impressive too. I had no idea who they were, or that they were going to be at the show... But I had heard 2 of their songs on the radio about a million times and recognized them right away, Wasteland (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciuca4d2Ttg) and Beautiful... The lead singer has a really good voice I think.

Good show, but I'm hungover and my foot hurts from getting stepped on my some 300 pound fatty with dreads. :tsk:

After I saw Trivium and All That Remains, I thought the crowd there was pretty brutal...until I saw Five Finger.

I've been to some pretty brutal shows over the years, hard to put one ahead of the next... I think all the crowds seemed more brutal when I first started going to shows when I was around 16-- back then I was short and skinny and got tossed around really easily. I don't think the crowds were any worse, they just seemed that way.

I think the craziest for me was the original summer sanitarium tour-- Korn's moshpit at the old mile high stadium was just ridiculous-- it was hot, and crowded and I just remember thinking I was gonna get swallowed up in front.

SR

Korn's pit at Ozzfest '03 was absolutely insane too. Forgot about that. We were about 8 rows behind the moshpit, so I wasn't in it, but people were getting brutalized. It was pretty rough for Ozzy too because he kept throwing buckets of water on them.

Went to Avenged Sevenfold and Buckcherry in the Springs last night.

Buckcherry made me feel dirty just watching them. They were terrible.

A7x was good as usual, but their setlist sucked. They only played like 8-9 songs for about an hour. No encore or anything. You could tell their tour is winding down and they seemed to be going through the motions just a little bit more than usual, as opposed to when they kicked off their last tour in Denver and seemed really into it and played an awesome set.

The highlight was when Sinister played a guitar solo, and toward the end of it they kicked into a song that sounds like it's something that hasn't been released. They also played Dear God, which was the only song I hadn't seen them play live previously.

Saw Daath, Cynic, and Dragonforce last night.

Daath was like gothic metal, lots of satanic references, deep growling, just overall pretty gnarly. The moshes were violent and nuts and the creepy-ass lead singer kept yelling for everyone to fight. Strange.

Cynic was okay; I didn't really know what they were until they started playing, which was a HUGE contrast from Daath. It was really lyrical, with both really harmonic singing layered over growls. I didn't like it initially (after hearing Daath) and nobody was moshing or even cheering during the songs, but I think I ended up liking it after it was over. It was artsy. Something you could appreciate as different and even a little difficult. Really clean guitar play too.

Dragonforce was pretty awesome; it was one of their better shows in contrast to other shows I've heard about them. They weren't totally hammered when they started playing, so they made attempts to perform, and the guitars were pretty nasty, can't argue with that, even with the effects. The coolest guys out there were the Asian guitarist and the keyboard/key-tarist, who had some sweet solos and layering. The lead singer knew how to motivate the crowd (capacity at this point), and did a good job of keeping the mosh going by tossing water into the brawls going on. They played about an hour, and then had a 3 song encore, which turned out to be another half hour affair because their songs never end. Everybody went nuts when they burst out into "Into the Fire and the Flames" or whatever it's called; they just sang along. Their lead singer sounded like the lead singer from Journey at times because of how high he sang, though all of the songs sounded exactly the same.

Overall a pretty good show with a bunch of contrasting artists.

Great band, bad concert. The energy was low, the soundboard was bad, and to top it off, they didn't play "Don't Stay Home" or "Come Original" despite having a 21 song set.

It wasn't as bad as the Counting Crows concert (in which we all left early), but it was really disappointing.

Well Collective Soul and Third Eye Blind played before them and really did a good job. The Counting Crows finished things up, and they aren't my favorite band, but I can dig their stuff.

The problem with them in this concert was that they were just plain boring. The lead singer would talk for 2 minutes in between songs, they played some plain bad songs, and he didn't make the music fun, even toning down Mr. Jones. I've been to Blues Traveler twice, and they are somewhat like the Counting Crows, but they make their shows fun and upbeat. The Counting Crows just didn't do that at all. I've heard they aren't real good live from other people as well, so this seems to be a trend. We left after 6 songs or so.

47 piece string section, and a 10 piece rockband, animations running the length of the show, and a 30 odd foot tall Martian Fighting Machine :D

Conducted by Jeff Wayne, a CGI 'holograph' of Richard Burton narrates the tale, with Justin Haywood (Moody Blues) reprising his roll as the 'Sung Thoughts of the Narrator'
for 'The Eve of War' & the classic 'Forever Autumn', Chris Thompson also returns from the original cast as 'The Voice of Humanity' for 'Thunderchild'

Tha late Phil Lynott is replaced by Channon Noll as 'Parson Nathaniel', with Jennifer Ellison replacing Julie Covington as 'Beth' for 'The Spirit of Man', and Alexis James returning in place of David Essex as 'The Artilleryman'.

The only song they played this time that they didn't play on their last tour was The Flood. Otherwise it was pretty much an identical setlist minus a couple songs.

Then I saw Bullet for my Valentine, Killswitch Engaged, Slayer and Manson last night. Manson ruled. The guy knows how to entertain. I could take or leave the other 3 bands. Slayer has like 3 kick ass songs, but I wasn't really in the mood for speed metal last night. Bullet was ok. I was disappointed by KSE.

Saw Stained, Shinedown, Chevelle and Halestrom on Thurs. All but Stained were great. Halestorm has a female singer and can this women sing, she has a voice and my husband was just smitten with her, it was soo cute. Shinedown was so on the money and the energy was amazing. I had a great time.

This is the last concert Missy and i went too earlier this month.

So yea, Missy and i arrived at about 7:30pm and were quite shocked at how many people were there. Doors opened at 7:00 and there was a huge line out the door. It was mainly shocking just because we usually dont see that many youngsters out on a school night but it was great for the bands as they were even surprised by the turnout. So we get in and the first band up is Scale the Summit. We managed to catch the last 2 tunes of the night for them and they werent too bad. I may have to check into more of their material.

However, i could tell from the start that maybe Missy wasnt going to fully understand or enjoy this show aside from Devin. Her comment to me during the last track was "have they even sung on this song yet?". And i tried to tell her that progressive music does not always use vocals in their music. She had a confused look on her face. But, next up was the madman himself Devin Townsend. And i will point out that soundmen for all 4 bands did a fabulous job as the it was top notch and on point. Furthermore, Devin was completely energized and his vocals were out of this world. Dude, was flat out amazing last night. He kicked things off with "Disruptr" from the new album but only ended up playing 6-7 songs max which was disappointing.

Technically, i could of left after Devin and been a happy camper as the band was spot on and absolutely fantastic. However, i did want to see the last 2 bands of the evening. Next up was Cynic and again the band was top notch but Missy totally didnt get it. Obviously, she didnt recognize any of the songs but she enjoyed parts of the songs but overall wasnt feeling it. Kind of funny when i look back regarding Paul Masvidal and his stint with Death and now see him it just looks so odd. And he has this like Zen like mentality which he was displaying last night. He had the crowd do some sort of meditation type of display with their arms. Just very strange to say the least so i just shook my head and waited for them to get done.

Lastly was Beneath the Buried and Me which i really didnt know what to expect as im still pretty new to this band in terms of their music. But the minute they hit the stage it was clear a good portion of the crowd was there for them. The singer was relentless in his vocal assault and in my opinion a very good frontman in terms of engaging with the crowd. I was pretty impressed overall with their technicality and execution with their progressive elements. However, one thing that i really didnt like is they use the same format when diving into their progressive arrangements and that is do a little metalcore, then slow it down, do a little metalcore, slow it down. About 85% of their songs are done like this and it becomes quite boring after about 3 songs. Eventually, Missy and i headed out before they were done as they werent throwing anything new or exciting at that point. But it was still a good concert and worth the price of admission.

We also managed to hang a little bit with Jerry and then later on caught up with Jeff for Cynic and Beneath the Buried and Me.

I'll give the ones from this last year that I really enjoyed.

AC/DC - Dallas, TX - Business trip, stayed two days longer to make it to this last summer.

Grateful Dead - Mountain View, CA - Lived in SF at the time, quick drive.

Glen Tillbrook/Marianne Keith - San Francisco, CA - Met Marriana the day of the concert and she invited me to go free of charge. Real sweetheart, short as heck though! Became a fan of tillbrooks in the process.

Sleeprunner - NYC, NY - Visiting a friend in NYC, the band is a friend of his.

Tyrone Wells - LA, CA - Business trip, lucky shot, guy can play if ya like alt.

Seems like every state has a metal festival anymore...except Texas. There are some small ones in South Texas, but nothing really worth the drive. It's sad because there are a lot of good metal bands from Texas and it could be a good one.

Meantime, I guess I have to wait for Mayhem Festival...which once again thinks it's a great idea to come to Texas in August instead of June.

I almost never go to concerts but I was invited to go to a free concert featuring Gladys Knight (of Pips fame). She's converted to the Mormon church and has formed a choir as an evangelical tool. If you go expecting "Midnight Train To Georgia" or "The Way We Were", you'll be disappointed but if you go expecting religious music from a sweet old woman who still has a great set of pipes, it's an enjoyable experience, especially for the price.

Yes, they'll attempt to proselytize you but you only have to smile and say "no thank you".

I haven't seen them live since Siamese Dream ('93 I think?). The last album I bought was Melon Collie. I loved Gish and Siamese Dream, but Melon Collie left me a little flat (except Jellybelly, that song kicks ass). Haven't bought any of their stuff or listened to them since.

The last concert I went to was 311 in Atlanta about a month ago. They still kick ass live and as a strange twist they played Transistor (the album) in it's entirety. I would've preferred Music or Grassroots if they were going to play an entire album.

Sounds like you liked the Pumpkins heavier stuff. You should check out Machina or Machina II (that one you can download here (http://www.archive.org/details/machina2)). Also Gish and Siamese Dream are being reissued this month with a tons of new material: http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/reissues

EDIT: Also for those that don't know, the Machina II link takes you to a music/software archive page where you can find TONS of live bootlegs/rare songs from practically any artists for free. I listen to it at work all the time.
