Looks as if Lovie is done.

I would like to see Shanny in Chicago. First, the offense would take a dramatic
upswing there. Second, it would keep Shanny out of San Diego. :D

I actually guessed at the first of the year that Shanahan's name would be one mentioned to take over in Chicago, and do honestly believe that may be where he ends up. BUT... I think Lovie is out. Whomever takes over needs to do some fine tuning, and one thing Shanahan can do, is build an offense. Defense...eh....well......... not so much.

**and actually originally thought that this may be the last year for Kubiak in Houston..thus guessed that Kubiak and Shanahan would reunite somewhere. But think Kubiak has earned maybe another season. Maybe**

Really? Let's see:

Marcus Nash
Muneer Moore
Triandos Luke
Travis F-ING McGriff
Charlie Adams
Adrian Madise
Darius Watts
Herb haygood
Kevin Kasper
Chris Cole
Patrick Jeffers
Chad Plummer
Leroy Fields
Ashlie Lelie

Those are all Shanahan era WR draft picks before the FA's like David Kirkus and company came to town.

I certainly would love to see Shanahan go to Chicago.

Brandon Marshall
Eddie Royal
Tony Scheffler
Nate Jackson
Jeb Putzier

And, of course, Rod Smith as a UFA, and there was Eddie McCaffrey

It wasn't all bad, my friend . . . ;)

Brandon Marshall-Good pick potential to be great
Eddie Royal-good pick potential to be great
Tony Scheffler-Solid but injury issues
Nate Jackson-Who is Nate Jackson? Isn't he the guy Shanahan drafred as a favor to Bill Walsh and kept on the roster forever despite very limited production.
Jeb Putzier-I liked Putzier. He was productive when they went to him

Rod Smith-Shanahan's best pick at the position. Unfortunately, he cannot claim the pick or the brilliance for it. If he knew Rod was going to be what he turned into, he would not have risked losing him and would have gone all out and drafted him in the 7th round

Eddie McCaffrey-Drafted by the Giants in the 3rd round (83rd overall)

Let's be fair here, too. Domenik Hixon should count too. By the way, I was only having some fun :elefant:

He can't claim the pick at all actually. The Broncos drafted Keith Burns in the 7th Round that year. Rod Smith went undrafted. Another footnote is that Wade Phillips was coach that year so Shanahan's only credit would be suggesting to Wade that Rod would be a great Bronco.

The problem with that though... he was with the 49ers at the time. ;)

However, Smith came to the Broncos in 1995, the same year Shanahan took
over as HC.

Actually, Shanahan can claim the pick of Smith. The fact Smith was undrafted
means that 31 other teams passed over him in the draft, leaving Smith
available to all 32 teams as a UFA. Signing UFAs is not throwing stinky stuff
against the wall to find something good. Each player is invited because the
team sees a possibility in him. Because more UFAs don't make it than do, the
process isn't as scientific as drafting players, but it still demonstrates the
ability to see promise in a player.

We'll give you Josh and a 5th for two 1sts, a third, and Lovie.

However, that will depend on our locating a good QB because Orton will most
likely demand a trade when he finds out Lovie is coming here . . .

Obviously I was being fecitious by saying Shanahan cant take the credit for knowing what Smith would be as he would have actually ddrafted him. Belichek said the same thing about Brady. Had he known Brady would be Brady he would have drafted him sooner.

As for Smith, I am quite certain he was brought in by Shanahan. Smith was originally signed by New England as an UFA and then released. It wasn't until his release that he was brought to Denver. I think that is in 95 and by Shanahan. I cant find anything that shows the day he was signed to the practice squad.
