View Full Version : Lions to put WR Williams & DT Rogers on block?

From the sportingnews.com:

The Lions will begin getting word out that WR Roy Williams is on the trading block. It wouldn't hurt the Lions to stockpile draft picks, but the front office would prefer to acquire a veteran defensive player. Don't be surprised if the Lions put together a combination deal involving both Williams and DT Shaun Rogers to entice someone to give up a quality player. ...

If we could get Williams and Rogers for Walker, Henry, Gold, Foxy and a 2nd...yeah, I would take that.

I would take that trade...

Why would they trade Williams for Walker? And why would they want Henry?

I think we would have a better chance of trading them Gold Foxworth and our 2nd.

I wonder what position they want on defence? What if they wanted Champ and our 4th?

No WAY! CB is solved... I don't want to fill a hole by making another one. And a huge one at that.

I love Champ as much as the next guy and don't want to lose him, BUT if there was ever a right time...

I'd prefer...Gold, Foxxy, a 2nd, and Walker.

My dad is a Lions fan and I just told him this. The response..."Sean Rodgers hasn't done a thing since the Denver game and Roy has been hurt...damaged goods. They just folded. Not worth my time."

Marshall and Williams at WR....

Do whatever needs to be done Shanny and Co. but pull the trigger and get both these two.

It actually says they prefer to land a top defensive player...and it WOULDN'T HURT the Lions to stockpile picks.

Which Denver has nothing to offer(Champ is not going anywhere). So a trade involving Detroit would require multiple picks.

Foxxy is a legit option...as is the #2. I agree we'd need to send more, but we have some p[ieces.

No that would be a no go in my opinion. Finding a shut down corner is as hard good defensive tackles.

Some people will never learn.

Roy Williams = injured, expensive, will be underproductive

Sean Rogers = see above and throw in lazy and unmotivated

Guys and gals,

It's time to relax and show patience. We had perhaps the all-time best Broncos draft in '06 and potentially a solid draft in '07.

Now is not the time to make up fantasy trades that will never happen and sign "pass their prime" free agents.

Smart free agent signings with little risk of overpayment for underproduction and continue to draft well.

Hate to break it to ya, but '08 isn't our season... 2009 will be.

Unless all the moons and stars line up and we have NO injuries I think your correct..

The real question is can mikey make a third in a row draft year or do we slip back to DAFTING..

Agreed, the Broncos next 3-5 years are dependent on primarily three things.

1. Continuing solid drafts in '08 & '09

2. One or two key free agent signing that actually payoff (don't need to be super-stars)

3. Staying relatively healthy

...and getting rid of the crap. i'd rather have a motivated rookie with a chip on his shoulder (like bmarsh...well 2nd year) than some cry baby like walker saying the broncos are not for him. fine then, bring your peg leg to the raiders and face champ twice a year.

getting williams AND rogers would be sweet but if i had to pick just one id say rogers. he is a force in the middle and thats what we need....id love us to make a deal for him. if ekuban gets resigned, sign another rookie dt (okam???) and moss comes back i think our d-line would be set.

Give the Lions
1st rounder 2008
5th rounder 2008
2nd rounder 2009

for

Lion's 1st rounder 2008
DT Shaun Rogers
WR Roy Williams

IMO

He is one of the biggest waste of space in the NFL, and that is exactly what we need, someone to take up space.

Outstanding look at the issues..

I would however say that getting a STUD DT and one not so great, is an absolute either via the draft which most likely means the number one pick this year and perhaps a trade/fa for the not so stud one.

While I think Thomas is going to become and power to be here he will need a partner so he will not wind up Doubled or tripled every play.. Having two great ones and a couple of goods ones allows for rotations to keep them fresh and allows the ones on the field to do what they do best depending on passing or running downs..

Hanesworth would be great, he shuts down the run as a specialty whereas Thomas is more the collapse the pocket kinda guy. Together they cover both bases and neither suck at the other role. But THEN we all know the really goods ones are either way over priced or their teams never allow them to leave..

rogers would be nice if he would restructure.

Were not getting Roy Williams and Rogers for no Bum Gold, Walker and Henry. And a lousy 2nd round pick for one of the best wide outs in the game and a top 5 DT in the game.

SmilinAssasSin27

Rodgers is not a top 5 DT if he annually wears down at the end of the year and doesn't play hard after week 10. He has the talent, but there is a reason he's on the trade block.
