I don't pretend to know how the league determines this, but any way Denver gets any extra picks this draft? We lost a starting CB to death as well as a FB. We really didn't get hit too hard in FA, but we did pick up some big contributors. Anyone have a clue?

I think they make a determination if you lost more than you gained in FA. I don't know if they will consider DW, but I don't think so.

The only compensatory pick i know of is the one we'll receive for the Warren trade with Oak. I beleive we get either as high as a 4th rounder or as low as a 5th round pick for the amount of time he's played ... from what i understand anyways ...

I don't think we will get any. The free agents we loss didn't do so well or get much playing time, so it didn't help us much with the NFL Compensatory forumula.

How about Cooper Carlisle?

A team is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks if it is determined that they lost more or better players than they were able to acquire during the previous year's free agency period. The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents (maximum of four).

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula that was developed by the NFL Management Council, and not every free agent lost or signed by a team is covered by this formula.

A big fat 0 to receiving comp picks for the upcoming draft.

Yea, no comp picks for Denver.

Warren doesn't have an argument because he was traded.

The only pick would be for Cooper Carlisle, and unless an oline makes a Pro Bowl you're not going to receive anything for losing him.

Here is a list of our 2007 FAs:

Burns, Keith LB UFA
Carlisle, Cooper OG UFA
Chukwurah, Patrick LB UFA
Devoe, Todd WR ERFA
Green, Louis LB RFA
Johnson, Kyle FB UFA
Morgan, Quincy WR UFA
Myers, Michael DT UFA
Peterson, Kenny DE UFA
Sapp, Cecil RB UFA

I believe from that list we lost, Myers(15 games Cincy), Chukwurah(9 games TB), and Carlisle(16 games Oak). I'm not to sure who we brought in I can think of Daniel Graham (15 Games), and Simeon Rice (6 games). So their may be a chance for a late round comp pick, because neither Graham nor Rice really had great stats here. Thankfully, it's hard to see Graham's blocking in the stats.

Looking at just games played of the guys I could remember it's 40 games lost to 21 games gained I would think a 19 game difference like that would get us something.

But I don't really know the formula and I may have missed a FA.

Not only are you right and I missed two biggies, but I also missed:

69 Alexander, P.J. G 6' 4" 297 28 5th Syracuse FA-'07
57 Beck, Jordan LB 6' 2" 233 24 3rd Cal Poly/SLO FA -'07
90 Carrington, Paul DE 6' 7" 260 24 2nd Central Florida FA -'07
4 Hackney, Darrell QB 6' 0" 248 24 1st Alabama-Birmingham FA-'07
19 Jacobs, Taylor WR 6' 1" 210 26 5th Florida FA -'07
98 Mallard, Josh DT 6' 2" 259 28 3rd Georgia FA -'07
17 Martinez, Glenn WR 6' 1" 190 26 2nd Saginaw Valley State FA- '07
99 McKinley, Alvin DT 6' 3" 294 29 8th Mississippi State UFA (CLE)-'07
85 Mustard, Chad TE 6' 6" 265 29 4th North Dakota FA-'07
2 Paulescu, Sam P 6' 0" 189 23 R Oregon State FA-'07
11 Ramsey, Patrick QB 6' 3" 225 28 6th Tulane FA-'07
72 Snell, Isaac G 6' 6" 288 25 3rd North Dakota State FA-'07
51 Winborn, Jamie LB 5' 11" 242 28 7th Vanderbilt FA-'07

So I'd like to revise my earlier evaluation and say we won't get any. We just didn't lose that much compared to what we brought in.

Does it make a difference if they were an undrafted free agent as opposed to one that came from a different team?
