View Full Version : Will we be favored next weekend?

LRtagger

Seems like all of the average to good teams we have played this year were favored to win. Now that we are 6-0 and Balt is 3-3, will we be favored?

This game is away, so I could totally still see them favored in Vegas. If we are favored it will not be by more than 2 points. I think Balt will be favored by 1. I believe people still will have a hard time putting their money on the Broncos.

Baltimore will likely be favored by a point or two, meaning we would be favored at home or on a neutral field. Baltimore is still a good team and should probably be favored at home.

We will be underdogs again. I'd be shocked if we were even favorites at home when we play the Steelers in a few weeks. I like the underdog role. I can picture us getting the 1 seed in the AFC and we'll still be underdogs in the divisional round at home.

Yea, same here. Though I think we will also be underdogs against the Skins and the Chargers. Maybe even KC on the road.

Maybe against the Redskins but since Denver has already beaten the Chargers in San Diego I don't they will be the underdog when they play in Denver.

Ravens are on a 3 game losing streak. Broncos 6 game winning streak.

Both coming off a bye week, Denver should be favored by 4 but it's in Bal., so

Denver will open as a 1 point favorite.

We wont be underdogs too many times if we win either at Ravens or at home vs Steelers and that includes the Giants. I think the line will be around 1 to 2 points, us underdogs. If betters believe in this team, it goes to a PICK EM.

Ravens are just as tough a team as the BRONCOS are and it's at their home so why wouldn't they be favored. This will be a great test for the BRONCOS and this game could go either way but I give the edge to the Ravens being it's an early game, east coast, and they always play tough and it's at their house!!.

even though we are 6-0 and they are 3-3
the 2 teams stack up well statistically.therefore the line should be pretty close.
we are allowing 11 points a game while they are allowing 21
but our offense is avg. 22 points a game while theirs is at 28
factor in the home field 3 points and youve got yourself a pretty even split....statistically that is.
i still would bet on the broncos as this d should feast on the youth of flacco with the disguises and change ups they can throw at him:D
and the broncos D is playing more like the ravens of old than the ravens of now !

We might not have the respect of some writers and fans of the NFL but I bet we have the respect of the Ravens. I like the underdog role but this is going to be a tough game against a team that historically has owned us. I think we are better built to compete with them this time around but it's going to be a tough hard fought game.

I think our defense should match fairly well against them. The best weapon that Flacco has is Ray Rice if Denver him check I think they will be ok.

On offense I hope we can get off to a faster start, so that can some pressure off of the defense.

In the past the Broncos weren't a very physical team and they consistently had trouble against physical teams. Thankfully that shouldn't be the case this time around.

Call me an amateur psychologist, but it seems to me that the whole point of this thread (who is favored) really boils down to the ancient Bronco fan pet peeve that we are generally disrespected in the NFL. Before Elway we were excluded from the HOF, right? I dunno, maybe it goes back to those socks...or the franchise's poor start in 1960 making us objects of derision within the league.

Regardless, as Bronco fans we know the difference between smack talk and disrespect and we get too much of both. This has bugged me for years, EVEN AFTER back to back SB wins. Something I remember during ESPNs Monday night coverage of the Broncos/Chargers gave me an epiphany of how to re-think...at least how I rethink...the negative attitude towards the team. The credit goes to the attitude of Tom Jackson. When the co-anchors (Chris Berman, Ditka, Keyshawn, Chris Carter and TJ) all made their predictions on who would win at the end of the pregame, every single one of them picked the Chargers, with Chris Carter and Keyshawn even saying "Sorry, Tommy" to TJ's face after they picked the undefeated over the rival. (TJ of course picked his old team to win.) But TJ didn't smile or say thank you. Blank face. Poker face. But, I ask you, do you think Tom Jackson was smiling after the game?

So my new way of thinking about this general feeling of disrespect is this: ignore it. Just like Josh McD did in August and TJ did a few weeks ago. The haters probably won't change their attitude. But nothing is better than success. Nothing. As we surely know.

I guess it depends who you ask, but I was always told that if two teams are equal, the home team will get a 3-point advantage. But who is considering these teams equal? Nearly every rankings in the MSM has the Broncos a top 5, many a top 3 team. Now Baltimore, as good as they are, are not superior to the Broncos in most traditional measures nor in subjective MSM rankings. I guess I'm not sure how Baltimore and the Broncos are a push.

I guess you could say I don't follow MSM rankings. I'm going by the history of the two teams. Denver and Baltimore have always played each other close except for the butt kicking Denver got some years ago in baltimore. Denver has yet to win in Baltimore. If we'd be playing Miami in Miami, I would give the Dolphins the edge as well. The BRONCOS have a solid chance of winning this game but so do the Ravens, until then the home team gets the edge!! My way of looking at things may not be according to this years stats or rankings, but the Ravens is a team the BRONCOS usually struggle against.

Does this mean I pick the BRONCOS to lose, no! I believe the BRONCOS win a nailbiter by 2 pts.

BRONCOS 19 (4 fgs and a touchdown at the end)

Ravens 17

The money line spread is going up for Baltimore though which means people are betting more money on Baltimore staright up. It's early but expects the lines to change by Sunday morning. Actually it opened at the LV Hilton as -4.5 and has moved to 4 and now 3.5.. but that is OK IMO it gives the opponent a false sense of security..

lets hope Josh just keeps them on the straight and narrow and none of the players start reading their press clippings, or spending time on talk shows or TV shots....

From ESPN___

After breaking down film of both teams, Scouts Inc. offers 10 things to watch in this week's Broncos-Ravens matchup.

QB: Ravens
RB: Ravens
WR: Broncos
OL: Broncos
DL: Ravens
LB: Ravens
DB: Broncos
ST: Broncos
Coach: Ravens

1. Denver RB Knowshon Moreno: Although Denver has had some success running the ball between the tackles, it has yet to face a run defense as stout as the Ravens' up the middle. Look for Denver to adjust this week by trying to run the ball wide and versus a Ravens defense that has been out of position often this season.

2. Denver blitz packages: Denver has adjusted very well to its new 3-4 scheme. Look for Denver to bring a lot of inside blitz pressure to force QB Joe Flacco to get outside of the pocket. The Broncos don't want Flacco to be able to step into his throws in the middle of the pocket.

3. Ravens RB Ray Rice: Rice is one of the most underrated running backs in the NFL. In Week 6, he took the game over and almost led the Ravens to a win in Minnesota. He needs more touches, though. Although Flacco has played excellent football, the Ravens are suffering from an identity crisis right now as they have gotten away from the running game far too often in recent weeks.

4. Baltimore must be more disciplined on defense: Although they have always had a great and aggressive defense, the Ravens have become a little undisciplined. When you watch them on film, there are far too many guys freelancing at the same time. Even their superstar players, MLB Ray Lewis and FS Ed Reed, have often found themselves out of position in recent weeks. The Ravens have to play aggressive but sound football versus a Broncos offense that has not beaten itself during this 6-0 start.

5. Matchup to watch: Denver QB Kyle Orton vs. Reed: It is hard to say this because he is a great player, but in all honesty, Reed has not played very well this season. He is often out of position, overrunning plays and freelancing too often. Orton has been as good as any QB in the NFL in taking care of the football. Expect Orton to try to throw off Reed with subtle pump-fakes and deceptive looks.

6. Baltimore's offensive line must play well: The Ravens could leaveg TE Todd Heap or Rice in to help block, but both players are major parts of the passing game. The Ravens' front five must handle the blitz pressure or the Ravens will have to make adjustments that could inhibit their ability to move the ball through the air.

7. Denver WR Eddie Royal must step up in the slot: Royal has made plays on special teams, but the Broncos need from him in the passing game. He has a mismatch this week against Ravens CB Frank Walker, who has been picked on often this season. Look for Royal to be a frequent third-down target playing out of the slot.

8. Baltimore WR Mark Clayton must be more consistent: As mentioned earlier, the Ravens' offense might be hamstrung this week by needing more block protection from Heap and Rice. This will put a lot of pressure on WR Derrick Mason, the Ravens' No. 1 one target who will likely be shadowed by CB Champ Bailey, as well as Clayton to step up and make plays.

9. Orton's decision-making: Orton has thrown only one interception in six games. He runs Denver's offense well and understands when to throw the ball out of bounds. This will be the best defense he has faced to date and the Ravens will show him a lot of different looks. If Orton can play with the same poise and leadership he has shown in the first six games, the Broncos have a chance to extend their winning streak.

10. Baltimore LT Michael Oher vs. Denver DE Elvis Dumervil: Oher had a tough time trying to block the Vikings' Jared Allen. He is an excellent young tackle but has trouble at times protecting the edge versus speed, and Dumervil is as quick off the edge as any pass-rusher in the NFL. It should be a great matchup.

Prediction:
Ravens - 20
Broncos - 17

It just hit me! When the Broncos stomp the Ravens 34-17 on Sunday, they will still be underdogs when Pitt comes to town the following week for MNF!

I mean sure, love the Denver D, and worry about 17th in scoring for the O.

The Broncos are on the road for Baltimore and it's a tough, desperate, team so maybe favor the Ravens.

But if the Broncos stomp the Ravens, on the road. If they continue their 2nd half dominance on thee O and D.

At Mile High, 2 for 35 on 3rd down in the 2nd half, highest rated 4th qtr QB, 10 points allowed 2nd half through 6, etc.

And the Broncos will still be underdogs!!!

Love it. :D
