I DON'T WANT ANYONE TO GET UP SET OR MAD AT ME BUT I COULDN'T HELP MYSELF FROM WRITING ON HERE ABOUT WHAT I HAD SEEN DURING THE PRE GAME. I WAS WATCHING ON THE TV WHEN I SEEN KYLE ORTON WALK THRU THE MARINE CORPS COLOR GUARD AS THEY WERE FOLDING UP THE AMERICAN FLAG. HE COULD HAVE SIMPLY WALKED AROUND THEM BUT DIDN'T HE JUST WALKED UNDER THE FLAG AND BETWEEN THE MARINES FOLDING THE FLAG. TO ME IT SEEMED LIKE HE HAD NO TIME FOR RESPECT. JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW I LOST ALL RESPECT FOR HIM AS AN AMERICAN REGUARDLESS OF WHO HE IS OR WHAT HE DOES FOR A LIVING.

I doubt a Broncos fan would create and account and make their first post some of the wall statement about Orton disrespecting "Old Glory" and the Marines.

More likely a chargirl fan.

But who cares?

It's a troll thread.

I didn't see it but someone on Sirius NFL Radio called in and defended Orton saying he saw it, and that he didn't think it was/trying to be disrespectful at all. So opinions are opinions I guess. Then after the caller stated that Jim Miller said he has talked to Orton many many times in Chicago and there is no way in hell Orton would do that as a sign of disrespect. And with everything we know of Orton it doesn't sound like him at all.

Actually I did see a bronco do that.. he simply ducked under the flag between a couple of Marines that were holding it on the broncos sidelines, waiting for the order to move out.... He did not interfere with them at all.. although some said he shook the Marines hand I did not see that..

as a Veteran that served under that flag, I did not take offense..

was orton supposed to walk all the way to the goal post then walk all the way around? the song was over and they were walking out. orton was shaking there hands and talking to many of them. the game was about to start. this is the nfl not boot camp for the army where everyone knows about military protocol.

i guess orton should have helped them fold the flag too?

I have never heard of any such protocol except don't let the flag touch the ground. Not knowing what this guy is talking about, it would seem better imo to find another way around during the colors ceremony even if it's over. I'm sure you don't want people walking through!!

One thing I do find disrespectful amongst fans and football players is during colors and the National Anthem, many don't put their hands over their hearts and the BS during!!

That got me thinking. I was always taught hand over heart for pledge of allegiance, but nothing other than removing hat for National Anthem. Let it be known that I have researched this and come up with....

Sec. 301. National anthem

(a) Designation.–The composition consisting of the words and music
known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
(b) Conduct During Playing.–During a rendition of the national
anthem–
(1) when the flag is displayed–
(A) all present except those in uniform should stand at
attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart;
(B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with
their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder,
the hand being over the heart; and
(C) individuals in uniform should give the military salute
at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until
the last note; and

(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face
toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag
were displayed.

the OP acts like it was a standard sized flag that two marines were folding up and Orton just busts in between them to get to the bench.

It was a flag the size of the damn football field...what exactly was he supposed to do? I'm willing to bet he felt uncomfortable about it, but he shook the soldier's hand before he ducked under and was as respectful as he could have been.

Yes. I saw this, and I saw him greet one or two of the Marines, personally shaking their hands, and then he ducked under to get to the sidelines, and if you noticed, the Marines there lifted the flag up a little bit for him to fit under.

There was certainly no disrespect intended.

Orton was extremelly tired mentally. He had just spent the last few hours trying to console and encourage Jay Cutler who had called him, all hysterical, crying about his piss poor preformance and wanted any advice on how to throw less interceptions, and be a man. After a long psychological session in which Orton cured Jay of his beetus, over the phone no less, he then exclaimed to jay that he had to go and do something he could never do in San Diego, which was win, and was suddenly underneath the flag, shaking the hand of a marine as he made his way to the sideline. No biggie.

Saying the pledge everyday builds solidarity, nationalism, need for exclusion. The only thing we are lacking is an authoritarian rule. While the object of a god is good, its fabrication makes it easy for some to easily break away then come back as if nothing happened. What the U.S. needs is a king. Some kind of monarch to really crack down. With the right toolset, namely a police force that is as innumerable as it is brutal, we can have order in this country once and for all.

After the Charger fan came to BF, registered, and started this thread, I sent emails to several media people - Lindsey Jones of the Denver Post one of them. Just received her response:

"Hi Carol,
Thanks for your email.
I just went back to the recording of the game, and yes, Kyle Orton did walk underneath the flag. It appears to be before the anthem, as the Chargers are being introduced. The Marines were in the line with the flag held under their arms -- it was not outstretched (those flags span more than half the field, not like it can just be folded up). The Marines were standing in a long line that stretched in front of the Broncos bench. Kyle approached, shook the hand of one of the Marines, and then ducked under the flag to get to the Broncos bench area. I'm not a Marine nor am I that familiar with the do's and don'ts of flag behavior, but it certainly doesn't appear to be a blatant act of disrespect, especially since Kyle shook the hand of the Marine right before doing it.
So there you go. Hope that clears it up, at least a little bit.
Thanks for reading,
Lindsay"

Guess after the spanking the Broncos gave to the Chargers, the SD fan who started this thread had to find SOMETHING in regards to the Broncos to TRY TO COMPLAIN ABOUT :D

I wouldnt mind cassel for simms. at least we would have some insurance of someone else that has done well in this system.

Seems a little too much to pay for a backup quarterback. Didn't he sign a 6 year 60 million dollar contract?

DC

I DONT WANT ANYONE TO GET UP SET OR UP TIGHT OR TO GET SICK AND UP CHUCK...

Poor Charger fans, you have to resort to this crap? pathetic... :tsk:

Just another example of the need for a 50-post rule . . .

If he shook the hand of a marine, that's all I needed to know.

I saw it as well. Didn't like it as I agree he could have gone around. I wasn't there to see the full situation if there was a way around the Marines on the field or what the circumstances were, so I'll refrain from putting him on the major bad guy list.

The flag is like 75 yards long. Many Denver players were caught on the field and did the same thing as Kyle. They just happened to be talking about what a great job Kyle has done so far and the camera zoomed in on him exiting the field. He never bothered the flag or the marines and he meant no disrespect IMO.

Thread over....:coffee:

I'm ok with Simms as the back up. If he had to start in place in Orton I think the team would be fine.
