The Broncos will go into the regular season with guard Ben Hamilton on the sidelines.

The seventh-year offensive lineman, who has been sidelined since incurring a concussion during training camp, will remain shelved for another two weeks after a specialist recommended that he avoid the field while continuing his recovery.

“The thing is, a specialist in Pittsburgh recommended that he not do anything for two weeks, to stay away from any type of conditioning,” Shanahan said. “That’s where we’re at right now. He’s not going to do anything for two weeks, and after two weeks, they’ll evaluate him again and give a recommendation.”

Three-year veteran Chris Myers has filled in for Hamilton at left guard throughout the entire preseason. If he remains in the starting lineup, then Sunday’s game at Buffalo will mark his first NFL regular-season starting assignment.

I am confused now....

Clemson is in SC, right? Are they a rival of your favorite team (USC, The Citadel (they play the Badgers later this month), Furmine, SC State, or Winthrope)?

Hated to hear about Hamilton. Any time a starter is out is not a good thing. C.Myers i think is more than adequate to step in and fill in nicely till Hamilton can get his head on straight. :D

Hamilton Has always been the heir to the center position IF Nalen ever retires. I am sure the O-Line will be just fine. (that rhymes!)

I am sorry about Ben and I hope he gets well soon. Injuries are a sad part of this game.

I hope Ben Hamilton gets better.

A big problem is that Hamilton has struggled this training camp with the concussion and we really needed Hamilton to bulk up and gain strength, we didn't need him to be recovering from concussion. I hope the weight and strength Hamilton gained from time he was training is enough.

this is an area of major concern for me.

Concussions add up and there is a point of no return.

The same concern I have for Hamilton apply even more so to Jay. He got dinged in SFO last year. Although he bulked up to be strong and be able to take a hit that bulk does not work on the head. How many did he have in college?

We all saw what happened to troy in DAL behind a continual All pro OLINE.

Playing drop back passer, behind our designed for the zone blocking run OLINE scares me Big time.

I agree, and as Wookie said, the Broncos need him to be conditioning and training at the moment, not sitting out. His health is most important though, and I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery, but this is Myers opportunity to shine and give reason to make him a starter, and you know what Shanny says about all great players.... they make the most out of opportunity.

Just read the article on Hamilton off the NFL Newsire and thought I'd pass it on:

Broncos' Hamilton slow to recover from concussion

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Ben Hamilton's streak of 5,407 consecutive snaps since becoming the Denver Broncos' starting left guard in 2002 is about to end.

Chris Myers will get the start Sunday at Buffalo because doctors have ordered Hamilton not to do any type of physical activity for two weeks in hopes his post-concussion symptoms will finally fade.

Hamilton, who banged helmets with a teammate in camp a month ago and sat out the entire preseason, remains optimistic he'll be back in the lineup soon.

"I'm feeling good. It's kind of a day-by-day deal, and once I start feeling better, I'll definitely be practicing and ready to go," Hamilton said Wednesday. "I'm not too scared. The doctors say I will definitely feel better."

Hamilton has had a tough time dealing with being sidelined, however.

"I've never had to miss any time with any injury or anything that's happened to me in the past, or any adversity," he said. "This is just something I've learned that you can't just push through it, like when you sprain your ankle or something like that. You have to wait until you're 100 percent. If you try to fight against it, you're going to lose every time."

Hamilton got hurt on what he termed a "routine hit."

"Banged helmets. It wasn't a big play or anything," he said. "It must have been that I was hit in the right spot. I've had my bell rung many times before and I'd shake it off. This time I woke up the next morning and I felt pretty out of it. I haven't gotten back yet."

Hamilton gets dizzy whenever he does any cardiovascular work and he'll revisit specialists in Pittsburgh next week for more medical tests to determine whether he can return to practice.

"It's a dizziness or 'spaciness' I get," Hamilton said. "I feel much worse when I do cardio. I have no predictions for it."

The NFL has implemented tough new guidelines on players who get concussions.

"But I think even without those rules the Broncos would be pretty cautious with me," Hamilton said. "I felt no pressure that I must get back or we need you by this time. They're going to let it run its course, just like the doctor said. And I will get better."
I'm glad he seems to be confident in his recovery and that the Broncos are being careful. But does it concern anyone else at just how long it's taking for him to get over this? It makes it seem more serious than most concussions.

Get well, Ben!

It makes me really concern that it is taking so long. Some how I missed him get the concussion to start with. When was it? I just noticed that he wasn't practicing and noticed that he wasn't on the side lines on the last Pre-season game. I'm glad they are being careful with him, but I'm wondering how many he has had before. I hope you get well soon Ben, you are missed.

Sorry Javalon, when I went back to the article I saw that it had been a month ago. I just missed it when it happened and I've been really worried about him. I hope he gets well soon.
