Coming into the 2009 season, the Denver Broncos were expected to be a heavily geared passing offense under new head coach Josh McDaniels. While acting as offensive coordinator in New England, McDaniels 'amoeba' offense set numerous passing records over the past few years. With a healthy Tom Brady in 2007, the Patriots amassed an NFL record 589 points and 72 touchdowns. Even with unknown backup Matt Cassel in 2008, the Pats 5th in total offense in yardage, and 8th in points scored.

Just when the analysts thought they had him figured out, McDaniels play calling has been anything but predictable in Denver. Through 3 games, the Broncos offense has ran the ball 102 times, and have attempted a mere 88 passes. This however, could change at any time. Rather than playing a specific style of offense, McDaniels devises his game plan around the opposing teams weaknesses. While the Broncos might run the ball heavily one week and rarely throw it, other weeks might find Denver's offense passing the ball on nearly every down.

Opposing defensive coordinators have to game plan for a variety of offensive styles. Denver will have no tendancies on offense, other than to attack the oppositions weaknesses. Different players will be featured on different game days. This of course, would not be possible without one of the best offensive lines in the league. This group can open holes for runners, and give Kyle Orton time to let routes develop for his receivers. It's a luxury that few teams have.

What can we expect to see out of Denver's offense throughout the rest of the 2009 season? Any thing at any time. It's refreshing to watch the game plan change every week. I feel like a kid at Chrismas time.

guess it is better than getting 20 scripted plays to see how the DC is going to react to us ..

knowing what the weakness is by film study..

as long as the Offense can adapt each week to a new wrinkle or 10 all the better IMO..
