Dr. Z rates the best to the worst TV Commentators, as teams, or as individuals.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/dr_z/02/08/announcers/index.html

The article is 4 pages long, so I didn't think I should post it here.

It's a very interesting read, though.

Your welcome. And is there anyone more annoying than Kornheiser? I think not. :D

kornholio, tirico and jaws = worst. . . announcers. . . EVAH!!

which sucks, because jaws is actually one of the best i've heard-- they need to can kornhole and get vermeil in there. . . if all the color guy does is make weak jokes, i can do very nicely without one. . . .

Deirdorf should be much higher than a two. At least a four.

And if Dan Fouts did NFL instead of college he'd be right up there in my book. I think Fouts does a great job on color commentary.

ya know, i also felt that dierdorf should be rated higher-- but they're being rated as teams, and joe buck is incredibly annoying. . . :tsk:

Joe Buck is better at football than baseball, that is where he truly sucks

My favorites are

D*ck Enberg
Sam Rosen (great on hockey as well)

and commentators
I like Boomer Esisian and Ron Jawarski (sp)

the ones who suck
are Kornheiser,
Mike Tirico, his high voice is very annoying on a TD call that is dramatic
Greg Gumbal, should go back to doing the Today show lol

rememeber this article is old. Theisman is no longer on ESPN and was replaced by the much better Jaws.

Which is really disappointing because I used to listen to him on ESPN Radio years ago (he was in Collen Cowherd's time slot) and thought he was pretty good. As a commentator, though, I agree he's pathetic.

If it wasn't for Jim Nantz getting a little bit better, I am pretty sure that Phil Simms would be joint bottom.

Don't get my started on Phil Simms.

Yeah Al Michaels is very good, I think he and John Madden should have been a little higher.

I hate John Madden, Troy Aikman, PHIL SIMMS, and most all of the rest of them CBS and Fox crews. I will say though that CBS crews are slightly better than Fox.

I hate Phil Simms above everyone else, I found a post I made on him a while ago.

If Jay Cutler were to throw a 90 yard, play action TD pass to Brandon Marshall, Phil Simms would be like " I just knew, that they were going to run that play" despite him saying nothing before the snap.

It also seems supsicious that Phil Simms "claims" to talk to EVERYONE before the game.

(Selvin Young breaks a 20 yard run to the outside)

" I talked to Selvin Young before the game, and he said that they wanted to run to the outside often"

(then Selvin Young breaks a 40 yard run down the middle)

" I talked to Slevin Young before the game, and he said they wanted to run inside often"

" I talked to Chris Kuper before the game, and he said, he was going to make that block"

" I talked to the towel boy before the game, and he said, the Broncos were gonna' run that play".

Phil Simms is a joke.

Anyway, I think that John Madden is ok when partened with Al Michaels and Troy Aikman is alright in my opinion.

I remember when you posted that. It's true though.

I don't like when Phil Simms while commentating, will imply that he's much better than the quarterback he's watching; he even did that while watching Elway in the Superbowl against GB. I'm thinking to myself, hey man, you're nowhere close to Elway. :D

Best crew I've heard in a long time. I only recall one game though. The SD vs Oakland Sept. 2006.

I like a lot of it. I think he sells **** Enberg short though, although Id agree Randy Cross does bring him down.
