Everyone always tries to argue who is the best team in NFL history ('98 Broncos for sure). However, no one argues who might be the worst team ever. In case you are one who can appreciate the "beauty" of watching a truly terrible football team, you will enjoy this thread.

So here is the plan, I have 8 historically abominable NFL teams that I have seeded 1-8. This way we can have ourselves a little tournament to see who is the worst team ever.

This week we vote on our first round match ups. Next week we will vote on the losers of this week's pairings, and so on.

Championship game. Time for you to decide who is the worst team ever!

In case you have forgotten how bad these teams were, here is a refresher:

1976 Buccaneers (0-14) - Expansion team in '76, averaged less than 9 points per game and shut out 5 times. When coach John McKay was once asked about the execution of the Bucs' offense, he replied "I'm in favor of it."

1980 Saints (1-15) - The "Aints" leading rusher Jimmy Rogers had only 366 rushing yards all season long. Remembered for fans putting paper bags over their heads.

1989 Cowboys (1-15) - Troy Aikman's rookie year. This team is often forgotten for being so bad because 3 years later (thanks to tanking this season and getting high draft picks), they won the first of 3 Super Bowls.

1990 Patriots (1-15) - This team was ranked dead last in total offense, and 2nd to last in defense. Their only win was by 2 points in the 2nd game of the year. They went on to lose the next 14 (23 if you count the next season) games in a row.

1991 Colts (1-15) - Their only win that year was by 1 point against the Jets. Set the record for the fewest points in a season (143) while only scoring 14 touchdowns.....oh yeah, the defense gave up 381 points.

2000 Chargers (1-15) - Two words: Ryan Leaf.

2001 Panthers (1-15) - Only team in NFL history to lose 15 games in a row in one season. Scored 7 points or fewer in 5 games.

2007 Dolphins (0-13 so far) - Dolphins have a chance to break the record in futility this season.

I think about things like ... wait ... what?

To keep this on topic, I think the '76 Buccaneers team that went 1-15 or the Cowboys team (Aikman's first year) that went 1-15 are probably on the top of my list.

Great thread. I would have thrown in the 81 Colts - that defense stopped nobody, and I think owns the record for most points given up in an NFL Season. Don't underestimate the suckiness of the awful 1966 Giants either.

A bunch of guys are actually are doing a project like this using Strat-o-matic computer football, the most realistic PC football game ever made. We took the worst team from each of the @ 30 past seasons they produce and did a single elimination tourney, with the loser of each game advancing.

Here's where we stand now

Oh no you di'int. :tsk:

Pathetic AFC West Fun Fact #1: The last team that lost to the Lions was (drumroll) the Kansas City Chiefs. Since starting last season 6-2, the Lions are currently 1-18 in their last 19 games. 2-18 if you throw in that 44-7 thing.

Pathetic AFC West Fun Fact #2: They went 3-1 vs. the AFC West last year, outscoring the three losers 105-48. :tsk: The only West team to beat them was the powder blue boys, 51-14 :tsk:

I feel really bad for Rod Marinelli. He should get another shot, this is Matt Millen's mess. But truthfully, with a couple o-linemen, Matt Cassell and a premier running back (Brandon Jacobs) they could be in the hunt for the division next year. But I think their cap numbers prevent such an overhaul. Cassell, Johnson, Jacobs, not a bad trio.
