I thought for sure BMARSH was going to get #2. I don't feel that Stokely has earned it.

The only other thing that i'm taking note of is the TE situation. If in fact Mikey will be going to more of a 2 TE set or 3 as someone mentioned.

It will be interesting to see then exactly who (TE) will line up where.

im pretty sure graham and alexander will both be in on for sure running plays. that will keep the d on their toes as to which side we will run. sheffler and jackson in on passing plays. we kept the best 5 tight ends if were going with 2 tight end sets.

im glad to see todd handling both punt and kickoff duties. we dont need any more specialist.

I think that Hamilton should be bracketed as he is a concussion problem that last thing I have heard.

Good post BTW

Thanks, DB.

While I am mildly surprised Stokley is ahead of Marshall, it is Marshall who has
not earned it. Stokley is a nine-year veteran with a phenomenally successful
record. They do not have the slightest doubt as to what he can do. Marshall
may well be #2, but he has not had sufficient chance to prove himself. He
may still vault himself into that position before the season is over.

Kuper is a mild surprise. I believe he has a greater upside than Holland, yet
the latter has done a superb job in blocking, according to reports. I guess
Kupe's natural talent is taking over.

Although Harris is listed as Lepsis' backup, they probably would send Pears back
over to LT if anything happened to Lepsis, even if Harris were healthy.

Wow, Scheffler #3? A lot of people had Alexander gone, yet now he
is listed at #2. A great deal of that probably is Scheff's need to play himself
back into footall shape. Even then, Alexander shows up far from the bubble.

I am also surprised at RB, but not necessarily FB. Young is the surprise. I
expected to see him at #2, and now he's at the bottom of the food chain.
I guess the coaches aren't yet convinced that Young will translate his
preseason success into the regular season? At FB, I suspected something
was up. Bell is an absolute misfit at FB, and Sapp has pared his weight
down to RB size and would not be the FB he was before. The surprise there,
however, is Paul Smith . . . I thought he be gone long before now.

On the defensive side, I simply see a lot of talent there (well, I would like
to see another good DT in there). The staff had better do something good
with that group or get a defensive coach in here who can.

sweet, kuper starting as predicted!

it's also good to see that hixon has taken control of both the return jobs. . .

Glad to see Paymah moving up. I've been watching him for awhile and I think he has all the talent to be a solid starter; he only has to get those fundamentals down. As for the running situation, I think it's amorphous. We'll probably see Bell and Sapp in the RB position as well as at FB (although I still have a hard time imagining Bell at FB). Stokely is a surprise, but it wouldn't be a stretch to say Marshall will eventually take that spot.

Our D-Line looks like total crap. :|

If Rice comes in, will he take over for Dumervil or Engleberger?

I may be wrong, but I don't see him stepping in for Engelberger.

Rice is so-so against the run . . .

Is there any chance that there is mistake that Stokley is ahead of Brandon, because like someone else said, he hasn't earned it in my opinion.

I don't think this is the current depth chart. It's the EXACT same depth chart that has been up for weeks, minus the cuts. I wouldn't put any stock into it until we see what is really is on Sunday.

I don't know why there is such wailing and gnashing of teeth over this year's #2 receiver and tight end.

Stockley is a known quantity. Marshall might be good, he might be injured, or he might not be able to be counted on when it really counts. If he shows the coaching staff that he has what it takes, you can bet that they will move him up the depth chart. Right now, he must not have calmed whatever fears that the staff have about his play. They have the video and it doesn't lie.

IMO the Broncos will be running the ball more than usual (which is alot) to take the pressure off of Jay. That calls for blocking from your tight end. Sheff ain't there, yet.

It is still my opinion that the rushing offense will have to carry the whole team for at least the first few games.

Like I said, I highly doubt that this is the actual depth chart, seeing as it hasn't changed AT ALL over the past few weeks, other than removing cut players. I will just about guarantee that Marshall and Scheffler are the #2 WR and TE on opening day.

It would seem to me that Marshall is simply a second year player in whom
they have not developed the trust they have in Stokley. I look for Marshall
to earn that trust, but that's the key: He still has to earn it.

And you're right about TE, IMO. That might be a reason for Alexander's
#2 status: He's a good blocker, as well as a competent receiver, even
though he's not in Scheffler's league in recieving (but neither is Graham).
They got Henry for a reason . . . the same reason they are going with the
blockers at TE.

IMHO.

I believe this is how we will go into this season, maybe + Simeon Rice.

I don't understand why so many people are suprised that Stokley won the #2 receiver position over Marshall. I agree very much with Topscribe, Stokley has proven himself as a receiver, Marshall did show promise last season but he is not really "proven" yet. I think Shanahan would prefer to go with the receiver who has proven himself. It is clear that Marshall also pissed Shanahan off with his moaning, Shanahan doesn't take these things very well and why should he? I think Shanahan would also prefer to go with the guy who has been working all training camp to the guy who has been moaning all training camp.

The offensive line looks exactly how I expected it to look.

I am abit suprised at Paul Smith at fullback. I thought they were going to get Cecil Sapp back up to fullback size and play him there. I hope Paul Smith does a good job but I really wasn't expecting this. YAY! For Mike Bell not at fullback, he can't block at all, now I feel alot more comfortable.

Stephen Alexander over Tony Scheffler was a shock aswell. I thought Stephen Alexander was going to be gone the second Daniel Graham was in. I think this is a mistake, Scheffler is a good receiver. Daniel Graham is a great blocker at TE, Scheffler is a good receiver at TE, it looked a good combination to me.

There's no major suprises on Defense. I am not too sure about Engleberger but overall the defense looks like what we all expected. Another defensive lineman is needed, I think we need two (1 DT,1 DE) but we wont be able to get two good ones.

Apperantly Stokley has improved ALOT on his blocking too. Especially as important as that is for WRs in this offense.

That's my only concern with him being the #2....

I wonder how this depth chart will look with the addition of Rice?

Really Dumerviel needs to start along the other side. I'm not sold on Englandburger at all. Run stop, run stop, run stop...blah blah blahhhhhh. The coaches seem to be pretty high on Elvis as a run stopper and I would rather see a DE in there that can handle both duties as a starter.

Hamburgerler is under average as a pass rusher and is average against the run. Rice is elite at rushing the qb and average at stopping the run. So Rice wins by default. He might not be starting this week but by week 3 look for Rice to be our starter.

It's gonna rock to have a couple of DE bookends now. Ekubans loss was a blessing.

How do you see Eb's injury as a blessing???

Had Ekuban not gotten hurt IMO we would be looking at he and Simeon as the starting D-ends.

to me i dont think we would have went after rice as strongly as we did. dumerviel i think will be a force this year. having these 2 guys on each side is a BLESSING.

i liked ekuban but i like rice better.

I could see 10 + sacks from each guy this year.

I wouldn't get all excited about the depth chart just yet. The NFL mandated one so the Broncos gave them one. We all know that the depth chart in Denver is written on wet toilet paper. Shanny makes decisions on who starts and plays when based on the prior week's practice, not some chart.

I have a feeling that Marshall and Scheffler are still listed at #3 because of the time they missed in camp and will be back at #2 again either week one or within the first few weeks of the season. There's just too much receiving talent in the two of them to be sitting behind Stokely and Alexander.

No worries! ;)

I agree. I don't think this Depth chart holds to mcuh water for how the season will actually play out, and doubt that it is 100% accurate to what we will see even in week1. Ahhh Shanny, yuou mastermind you. Teams will be looking at that depth chart and game planning around it. That is until the Broncos come out with something a little bit different :D OR at least, that is what I hope is the deal....

I saw a depth chart dated sept.4, 2007 on Broncomania (whatever it's called now). Marshall had been moved up to #2 receiver and Stokley #3. Scheffler was the #4 tight end. Young was listed as the back-up running back.
