You can get a cat to go to water, but you can't get him to drink.......;)
Sat Dec 8, 9:48 PM ET
Deadwood SD - A relaxing soak in a hot tub came to an abrupt end when Marlene Todd came eye to eye with a mountain lion in her backyard.
"I was kind of hidden, sitting with my back up against the side of the tub, and I heard a little rustling sound in the needles right beside me," she said.
Todd said she thought it might have been her house cat until she saw "this big, tan, hairy body" just 4 inches away.
"I didn't realize what it was until it took a leap and jumped up on the side of my hot tub," Todd said.
The cougar was cornered somewhat because the deck stairs blocked its retreat. It would have to go up and over the hot tub.
"It just took a leap. It jumped on the side of the hot tub," Todd said of the Thursday morning encounter. "We locked eyes, and it kicked off of the hot tub and ran away. When it jumped, it flipped my robe into the hot tub."
She summoned Deadwood police, who surmised the big cat was stalking some deer in the neighborhood and may have been attracted to the warmth of the hot tub on the frosty morning.
"Now I know what a goldfish feels like when the cat is staring in its bowl," Todd said.

Good morning. I think I'd want a nice tall fence around my hot tub in the future. I can say this being attacked by a domestic cat, and that was bad enough. Know what I mean?:D It's a cute story really. I love mountain lions.

Reminds me of that scene in jaws, with a Baby Ruth candy bar floating in the pool, without the wrapper. :D

It was NOT a good scene, KCLady....gross actually.
It was a fraternity. One of the guys filled his mouth with cottage cheese.
Then he said "Look at me, I'm a zit!" While squeezing his cheese, spitting out the cheese. Not  .:D

I like mountain lions (well all cats actually) too! Too bad they can't be domesticated, how would you like to have one of those guys patrolling your flower garden?

Apparently, I've had one 'nearly' in my back yard just about a year ago.
We get them in these parts now often. They have a 20-mile territory. With increased population, they are pushed farther and farther out into areas they never used to track. I do worry that my parents leave food out for the wild cats (the ferral ones).
I'd be a little worried staring one in the face, don't get me wrong.
However, they are beautiful creatures.

They've actually opened up a season on mountain lions in south dakota, because of the growth of their population.
Once it starts, they continue it until a certain number is reached. I think it's 35 cats or until 18 females.
Sad really....as I've always been a 'cat' guy, and think they're too beautiful of creature to kill.
But, as it is with all wild animals, their population needs to be controlled so they don't start inbreeding and/or starving.
I just know that I couldn't shoot one.
This summer, while in kansas, I saw a rather large bobcat. Pretty cool.
