Appears that Deflategate was an NFL manufactured and created controversy and scandal. According to this article:

Beginning with the 2015 season, the NFL began conducting air-pressure spot-checks at halftime of games. The numbers were collected and protected, with none of the information ever coming to light.

It was expected that, given the operation of the Ideal Gas Law, the pressure inside the balls would rise on warm days, and that it would fall on cold days. That’s exactly what happened. As the source put it, “numerous” measurements made at halftime of games during the 2015 season generated numbers beyond the permitted range of 12.5 to 13.5 psi, with the reading showing a direct correlation between temperature and air pressure.

On cold days, pressure readings taken before the balls were moved to the field resulted in lower readings after 90 minutes of exposure to the conditions. On hot days, the pressure increased.

Indeed, it was believed that the actual numbers measured in the footballs used by the Patriots were generally consistent with the numbers that the atmospheric conditions should have generated that day. This should have resulted in a finding that, at most, the evidence was inconclusive as to whether there had been deliberate deflation on the day in question.

* * *

So what happened to those numbers from the 2015 season? Per a source with knowledge of the situation, and as reported in Playmakers, the NFL expunged the numbers. It happened at the direct order, per the source, of NFL general counsel Jeff Pash.

Why would the league delete the numbers? It’s simple. For cold days, the numbers were too close to the actual numbers generated by the New England footballs at halftime of the playoff game against the Colts. Which means that the numbers generated at halftime of the January 2015 AFC Championship were not evidence of cheating, but of the normal operation of air pressure inside a rubber bladder when the temperature drops. Just as it was expected.

I also find it interesting that Troy Vincent was the source for Chris Mortenson's erroneous report that

11 of 12 footballs used by the New England offense during the game against the Colts were underinflated by at least two pounds each.

* * *

. . . Per a source with knowledge of the situation and as explained in Playmakers, the source for the notorious 11-of-12 footballs report was NFL executive V.P. of football operations Troy Vincent.

We'll likely never know whether Troy Vincent was fed the erroneous information and instructed or encouraged to leak it or he intentionally did so on his own.

The guy was called the needler.
All the texts about throwing watermelons unless he gets his shoes and shit.
Taking foitballs into the bathroom and not even knowing where the toilet was or the kind of toilet in that bathroom.

They can pile on anything they want, but anyone thats not a Boston homer knows without doubt that Tom was having the footballs deflated.

The text messages calling him the "deflater," will always make me highly suspicious, at minimum.

Two things can be true at the same time: a team can cheat and manipulate the footballs and a the laws of science (ideal gas law) can occur. Just because the Patriots (I mean this broadly) aren't brushed up on science doesn't mean they couldn't try to cheat.

I think where I was turned on to this being an actual thing was when Brady had his assistant destroy his phone, before the NFL got hold of it.

I'd destroy my phone before giving it to anyone, especially a billion dollar privately held entity (wtf is the NFL anyways, legally?). And there ain't shit on my phone. Just sayin.

I never paid attention to this stuff, deflategate. I still really don't care. If there was a dude called the 'needler' in combination with *any* surreptitious activity, well...common sense.

Your point is well taken. I proffer these thoughts unto thee, in hopes of a discussion, or hashtags at a later date.

He was bound by NFL rules to turn it over, per his contract. Moreover he had every assurance by both the NFL and federal court/s that his information wouldn't be leaked or exposed. His agent and attorney was going to be allowed to review everything taken from that phone, and there were limitations in place to just explore the text messages.

It was a move that ****** him in court, too. As you know, destroying evidence is admissible in court, and the judges spent a great deal of time and energy on Brady destroying his phone one a day he met with Wells.

IIRC, there were some talks that Brady could have been found in contempt, but my memory is stretched so don't quote me on it.

The Broncos, under McDaniels, cheated by videotaping other team's practices.

See, it's not that hard.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer said Patriots offensive assistant Joe Judge is "expected" to work with the team's quarterbacks.
Matt Patricia, meanwhile, is expected to work with New England's offensive line. Judge and Patricia, both of whom came back to Bill Belichick after disastrous head coaching stints, "will do so without much experience having coached offense before they became head coaches over the last few years," Breer said. Having Judge work with Mac Jones would be a curious choice after Daniel Jones floundered under Judge and former Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. Judge's role on the Patriots coaching staff in 2022 could be bigger than once thought
