View Full Version : Von Miller Is Dreaming Another Dream

Two friends and NFL superstars moved to Colorado Springs last offseason. They wanted to train together, prod each other and labor at high altitude so both could return to the rare air they reached during the 2015 season. Both were rehabbing from different injuries that had cast their respective futures into doubt. Both were playing for teams that held playoff aspirations, even long-shot Super Bowl hopes. And both were confronting the same question, which loomed like the mountains outside the window as they plotted twin, parallel comebacks: Could they return to peak form?
Von Miller was still a Denver Bronco. But the patella tendon he dislocated in his left ankle had cost him both time and shine. Memories of the championship run that vaulted him to superstardom had begun to fade. In the four seasons since Denver won Super Bowl 50—with Miller netting the game’s MVP honors—he remained an elite pass rusher, registering 14.5 sacks in 2018 alone. Still, that tally dropped to 8.0 in ’19, his second-lowest total in 10 seasons, the last of which he had missed in its entirety. The Broncos had returned to the playoffs since their title.
Odell Beckham Jr. was still a Cleveland Brown. But the ACL he had torn in his left knee had cost him all but seven games in 2020. Memories of his spectacular ’15 with the Giants—96 receptions, 1,450 receiving yards, 13 touchdowns—had been replaced by a run of solid-but-no-longer-spectacular production after a trade to Cleveland.

He reminds me of John Elway in the sense that he made the bengals better despite not being loaded like the bills and the chiefs. Kudos to him. I wish him the best. Plus he’s a nice decent kid, it’s hard not to like him and root for him...

I can settle for a Rams/Bengals SB with whoever winning. Its a win/win for me as the Chiefs would be out of the equation. If the Rams win Von gets another ring, if the Bengals win Burrow gets a ring. Im not necessarily against the Niners but i really dont care for them compared to the other 2 teams.

This will probably be an unpopular opinion, as many thought the Von Miller trade was great. Broncos finished with 7 wins, 10 wins would’ve likely put them in a Wild Card. 3 of the 6 losses after Von was traded came by 1 score, with the defense failing to make a key stop being a large factor. Despite the offense’s inaptitude and terrible special teams, they still had chances to win those games.
Von Miller was playing well, got hurt, then finished the season strong after he was traded and got healthy. Does the season and those 3 games turn out differently if Von is never traded? We watched the Bengals tear through the AFC’s best teams in the playoffs, showing the AFC was truly up for grabs during the playoffs.
I know Paton can do no wrong right now in the eyes of many, and this is all speculation. But, I can’t help but think did he screw the team over with this trade.?

I still support the trade, not because i dislike Von but he's not getting any younger and the likelihood that Denver gets to a SB anytime soon is still a few years away i believe. Even if Denver had managed to get to the playoffs this year we would have been bounced with or without Von. A lot of people liked this particular trade because it gave Von a chance at another SB ring which he now has a chance at. Denver was never going to beat any of the playoff teams this year.

In hindsight were idiots for not making the deal in fear of losing Lock. However if were honest Shumrur having Stafford throw 3 yd screens to TE's on 3rd and 8 would have been pathetic as well. Good for Von and Stafford they both deserve this ride!

Also we need it so bad we should bring him back for when Chubb gets hurt again and draft a 1st rd edge like Johnson or Ojabo to pair him with, so reed can go back to being a backup where he belongs. Sadly it seems first choice for him would be running it back with the rams.

not gonna get my hopes too high-- i still think he'll end up staying in LA-- but there is this. . .
In posts on Twitter and Instagram, Miller implied that Denver is his next destination.
“I kinda want that old thing back,” Miller wrote on Twitter, adding “5280” to reference the mile-high elevation of the Broncos’ stadium in Denver.
On his Instagram stories, Miller posted a picture of himself in a Broncos uniform with a question about whether he should wear No. 58 or No. 40, and then posted another picture captioned, “I wonder if they will give me my old locker back.”

Does Von Miller know something we don’t?
The Rams’ veteran pass rusher — who will become a free agent next week for the first time in his career — took to social media Monday and appeared to hint he wants to be a Bronco again.
In two separate Instagram Stories, Miller is seen wearing a Broncos uniform. In one post, the 32-year-old asked fans if he should wear his old No. 58 or his new No. 40 if he returns to Denver.

Edge rusher Von Miller teased a potential return to Denver on social media earlier this week.
And now that the Broncos have agreed to acquire quarterback Russell Wilson, Miller’s former team is that much more enticing.
But the Denver legend apparently isn’t entirely set on going back to where his career began.
Miller talked to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports and essentially confirmed the report that there’s mutual interest between Miller and the Rams to keep him in Los Angeles.
“I want to figure it out with the Rams first and foremost because they’ve been real good to me,” Miller told Anderson. “On the slim chance that can’t happen, then I’ll explore all my options.”

I would assume so. As much as I would like him back here the reality probably is that Paton doesn't want to allocate that much of the salary cap to one edge rusher. There are other teams that can and will, LA being one of them. He would, most likely, get less coming here and I don't know if that's a smart move or not. He knows what he has in LA, nobody knows what we have here yet truthfully.

I can’t imagine Jones will come any cheaper and Reddick is probably not going to be much less than the other two. The difference between Von and the others is, Von wants to be here (if the Rams don’t re-sign him). I respect that he’s basically giving them the first opportunity to get him back. I’d be okay with Jones because he’s consistent, but Reddick kinda scares me. He only seem to play well in contract years. I guess if we do sign him it should be for one year? ;)

Von Miller remains a target for the Rams in free agency, but teams have been calling the edge rusher this week. One team that might just have enough to lure him away from Los Angeles is the Cowboys.
Miller is from DeSoto, went to Texas A&M and has a home in Texas, so going to Dallas would be a homecoming for the future Hall of Fame pass rusher. And according to NFL Network’s Jane Slater, Miller is interested in joining the Cowboys.
The Cowboys are doing their due diligence on Miller, too, looking into signing the veteran to fill their pass-rush void left by Randy Gregory, who is heading to the Broncos.

Probably like the Broncos deal where they can just cut him towards the end of the deal, as is standard. Honestly though, Von stuck to his guns and got his $20 million. This is a future Hall of Fame player who might be past 30, but is still playing at an All Pro level when healthy. I think he has at least 3 years left as a stud, and then maybe once he loses a few steps he will fall more into a Julius Peppers type role. I think he makes it 4 years into the deal.

Von going to Dallas, or some other NFC team is 1000x better than him in the AFC. You guys think you’d be disappointed with the Cowboys, how about Von with the Queefs or Faiders? How about facing Von in the playoffs (where he plays his best) with say, the Bills, or across from Garrett in Cleveland? Yeah, the Cowboys don’t seem so bad…

OMG, if the Broncos don't win the SB I so badly want it to be the Bills.
We will have to go through Buffalo and Von to get to a SB now......this sucks......can't fault him though that's serious cash and security for a 33 year old.

Good for Von, he earned it. Of all the teams in the AFC the Bills are the team I would most like to see him play for, at least he gets to beat the shit out of the Pats twice per year.

Yeah, Bills are an easy team to pull for, and I’m happy for Von and hope he helps Buffalo get a ring too at some point. I had hoped he might come home but for waaaaaaay less than that. I’ll still be proud when he gets his bust in Canton.

Rams fans were hit with some disappointing news on Wednesday night when Von Miller chose to sign with the Bills instead of staying in Los Angeles. Some began hitting the panic button immediately, while others wondered who might replace Miller as the Rams’ starting edge rusher.
Despite the Rams’ efforts to keep Miller, some fans were even blaming the team for letting him get away. After seeing the contract Miller signed with the Bills, it’s not exactly fair to pin this on the Rams front office for a lack of trying.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Miller got a six-year deal worth $120 million. It makes him the first defensive player ever to earn two contracts of at least $100 million each.
The finer details of the contract show that it’s essentially a three-year, $51.5 million deal with $45 million fully guaranteed at signing. That’s obviously far less than the surface numbers, but it’s still a sizeable contract for a 33-year-old pass rusher.

I think we can all agree that 6 years/$120 M is better off on some other teams salary cap.

i don’t think I ever argued what he should get elsewhere, only what I hoped he’d take to come back to Denver. The fact that somebody was willing to pay him 20 a year is crazy considering he looked as good as he did because of all the attention Donald was getting. Good for him though we’ll be kicking his ass somewhere down the line.

You were saying he should take a haircut, which was like a third of what he was likely to be offered. He was offered more per year, which isn't a big shocker. The deal you wanted him to take in Denver was never going to happen and it would never have made sense for him.

It’s not, but you can sue for pretty much anything in civil court. That’s what this is.

Under some 'revenge porn' laws it could be. I have no idea what revenge porn laws said state has/doesn't have.

I doubt it, this is light stuff. The broncos just wasn’t going to pay that outrageous amount of money I don’t even think he’s worth all that.

Revenge sending of nudes is actually illegal. In some states it is a felony.
37 states and DC have laws against it. This article has each states law and penalty.
