View Full Version : Broncos issues ranked.

Just my opinion obviously but if I had to rank the Broncos issues this is how I would do so.
1. Teddy
2. Shurmer
3. Fangio
Teddy to me is problem number one. He is so limited in talent as well as willingness to take any risk that he just stunts the offense dramatically. We just signed 2 phenomenal WRs to extensions, and rightfully so because they are fantastic, yet Teddy lacks the ability to get them the ball in any kind of meaningful way. His tendency to throw the ball short of the sticks in almost every situation is astounding. He is the epitome of placeholder QB, he does nothing that would be considered dynamic. He's not the worst QB we've had since Orton but he sure seems like the most hopeless one since him.
Shurmer is a shit playcaller, he just is. I have zero faith in his ability to help develop a QB. This was not a good hire. There really isn't a lot to go on about this one, seems universal that we all dislike his offense.
Fangio is not a great HC but I also think he is the least damaging of our three biggest issues. His challenges and time management are laughably bad. His decisions at the end of games and halves are downright cringe-worthy. However, the main thing he controls, the defense, has been really good. Fangio's defense is almost always prepared and hungry, with a couple of exceptions sure. I think if we fixed issue one and two Fangio could end up looking like a pretty good HC. Please don't take this as an endorsement or as me saying we should keep him, just that I wholeheartedly believe the other two issues are much worse.
Tell me where I'm wrong.

The Teddy situation will take care of itself. He will want starter money($20+mil), and he’ll prolly get it from someone. If Sean Peyton can win some games with Trevor Seimian, he surely will consider someone like TBW. Also, the Texans just may be desperate enough to throw a lot of money at him.
Shurmur has to go. Period.
McMahon (ST’s) must go no matter what.
Fangio, it just depends. I think if the Broncos win 3 of the next 4, and make the playoffs, there is a good chance he’s retained. If not, then he’s probably gone. Also, Paton may consider who’s available before he makes a decision.
If he is retained, then he MUST agree to fire Shurmur. If he refuses, then Fangio gets fired. That’s the way it works.
Hard to tell sometimes, but many of the position coaches are pretty good, and just may be blamed for his boss’s bad schemes. For example, is it Azanni’s (WR coach) fault Shurmur & Teddy won’t throw the ball to Sutton & Jeudy? Same with TE’s coach, etc.
Is it ILB’s coach’s fault that the Broncos FO refusing to spend a high pick on his position?
Coaches that should be retained, although it will be the new HC’s decision, includes:
Munchak/Kuper
Kollar
Modkins
Azzanni. WR’s Maybe?
Herring ILBers Maybe?

I agree with the list but I would have it the other way around.
Teddy didn't hold a gun to anyone's head forcing them to trade for him, start him, and continue to start him after his performances.

If we can take care of 1 and 2 especially (Manning ownership group and Russell Wilson PLEASE!) I think the other things take care of themselves. The common denominator of all the "good" teams right now is having a great or elite QB and a stable organizational structure that allows for systems and culture to develop. This rest of this season is going to form many offseason decisions, so this list is subject to change!

Folks like to compare Bitchwater to Orton. Orton had an NFL arm. Orton got stuck on one of the most talentless offenses in the league thanks to McDaniels trying to recycle New England’s old trash. Remember, his top two WRs were Lloyd and Gaffney FFS. DT and Decker were rookies in Orton’s last season starting. Our offensive line was at an all time low, talent wise (except Clady) and the defense was pretty terrible.
I’d venture to say that Orton would be doing much better right now, on this team, than Bitchwater. I hated Orton as our QB but the dude could throw the football and wasn’t a check down machine. He had shit for mobility and was the “fainting goat” but if I had to choose right now, I take Orton every day all day. He was actually better in a Broncos uni than Bitchwater, Keesum, and Fucco.

His career is shot. He should’ve been the starter, but the turds we have for coaching staff thought a quarterback development is on his own and by staying on the bench. It’s clear Bridgewater was going to be the long term solution, I’m honestly convinced they believed that. That’s why they decided to pass on two 1st round quarterbacks that had literally landed on their laps to be taken and they passed on both of them. Same thing goes with the middle linebacker position; we needed to fill that position more than we needed a cornerback, and we also passed on the favorite to win rookie defensive player of the year in Micah Parsons.
It’s a mess. How long you think it will take for ya to draft a top ten quarterback?

Fangio fired Scangs to put in an “experienced” OC that ALLEGEDLY had a great reputation for developing young players. He was well respected around the league, we were told. At the time, I didn’t like it just because it looked like Scangs had something going with Lock, and was being blamed for Flacco & Allen. At the same time, I think that a HC needs HIS guys to make it work, so hopefully Fangio knew what he was doing.
Shurmur is by far the most overrated POS to coach offense, and Fangio deserves to get fired because of him.

Fangio has to go. The entire staff minus Donatell can take a hike. Though his Wiki page already says he is the former Defensive Coordinator of the Denver Broncos....
I will say this about Shurmer, I don't think his concepts are bad. He schemes plenty of guys open but we don't have a QB to get the ball there. His play calling sucks though and is very predictable.

Outside of QB, what are your concerns? He killed his first draft, love seeing Browning and Cooper out there. Surtain I thought looked soft to start the year but has come on. JW is JW. If he doesn't start holding coaches accountable and truly try to address the QB spot, then I will be concerned. I'll give him a pass on not drafting QB last draft. This coaching staff would destroy any young QB. If Vic's not gone, then I get on the fire Paton train.

I liked he was keeping lock and i wasn't even mad about Teddy coming in. Should have been as backup and we should of rode with lock this year period. Otherwsie we should have drafted a signal caller. Yup the broncos benched the young incumbent quarterback with the legit arm talent to get legit wideouts the ball for teddy whose done nothing but stink the joint up really for 14 game’s for a 7-7 record and of those 7 wins teddy only really helped win one of them which was vs Dallas where he played his best which was slightly above average….. javonte truly won that game for us along with the defense.
This teddy experiment totally set us back in a way because we deserved to see Lock for an entire year to see if he was truly the guy. Now he only gets 3 games to show out but **** it I’ll take it instead of another 3 games of teddy

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again fangio set this team back and ruined locks development under scangs with the hiring of shurmer trash ass! Lock was developing well in scangs offense. Firing him for shurmer ruined everything so it’s only right both fangio and shurmer are canned together. I don’t give two ****s about fangio defense! I don’t think Paton brings back fangio and his staff, and I’m not going to blame him for not firing him mid season while technically we was in the race. Sucks no, share responsibility for things and have struggled at times yes. its a situational thing with them for the most part, even agains the raiders they just couldnt get off teh field 2nd half, sure some of that is the offesne but as great as they are touted with a better pts per then the 15 team they need to make plays. Watching Jackson and Simmons get burned by a 2nd string slow TE was demoralizing......Watching Jacobs look like Derek Henry was pathetic.....

Jacobs aside from this year has put up over a 1,000 yds rushing. I dont know why people try to pretend he is Tatum Bell or something. And Denver as a defense has notoriously been bad against TE coverage which is why i have been pining for LB's for over 3 years. But this season would be far worse than it has been if not for our defense.

It's also about not being able to get off the field, and when you give up plays. Bengals game was a perfect example. Offense struggles, finally takes the lead and 45 seconds later the Defense coughs it up. It's been a Fangio trademark here.
You can't blame them for the Raider game though when we got 3 turnovers and the D basically put 10 points on the board. But that has been a rare exception with Fangio here. We don't get turnovers or sacks. Close games that look better than they are on paper is what we have.

It is justified. They shrink in big moments the 2015 defense did not that's the difference between a elite defense and a above avg. defense which we have. I like our Defense overall but it has issues. Its not the problem side of the ball though I would agree there for sure.

I actually think Shurmur is clown #1. A decent OC can work with what we have and Teddy leading the charge. We won a SB with a shell of Peyton Manning. Josh Johnson put up 14 on the Bengals. Our QB situation is bad but as you said a half decent OC would be able to make it work especially when our defense is playing as good as it is right now.

Name one decent OC that wants Teddy Bedweter as his QB?
I’ll wait.

Anyway, good luck finding a decent OC that wants “to be able to work with” the biggest check down fraud in the NFL right now.
If that’s the kind of shit an OC wants do you actually want that OC?

I think you totally misunderstood what Smilin was saying Jaded. He wasnt saying that any OC would want to work with Bridgewater, only that if that is all they had to work with and the OC was worth a damn he would be able to make it work on some level better than what Shurmur has in Denver. Its not about Teddy vs Peyton brother.

Plenty of crap QBs have made it far into the playoffs. Sanchez made it to the AFCCG for christ's sake. Plenty of very good to great QBs didn't sniff a ring. More than 1 way to skin a cat. Bridgewater is better at his job than Shurmur is at his. We have pieces on O. We have a strong D. Hardly a ridiculous concept to blame Shurmur over TB.

And no, there’s not another way to skin this cat, you need a franchise QB to compete for SB’s.

Agree… with nothing to watch now but a totally different QB in the same system… it’s clear to me Shurmer is my first candidate for the what is wrong with the broncos chopping block. The play calling is more predicable, and less situationally appropriate than madden on easy…

The thread topic is literally ranking our issues. Saying the response is ridiculous applies directly to the topic. Hence my confusion over your response. If this were a "Hearts 4 2 Gloves" thread, I'd be on board with you.
And their have been some $hit QBs in the Super Bowl. A couple have even won. As a Vols fan, I feel comfortable saying there aren't many bigger fans of Manning on this board. Regardless of how you feel about this, 2 gloves today is better than PM was in SB50. That's why he finally retired. He was done. It was over. We rout Carolina if PM could still throw. Defense won that SB...and a few others.

Ridiculous.
PFM and TB knew/know where to ball was going on any given play before the snap, the difference is PFM knew the defense better than the defensive coaches did … TB “knew where the ball was going before the snap” because every fiber of his being is telling him to check down before the ball is snapped.
To this day PFM will figure out how to beat you, TB will figure out how to be of no consequence whatsoever.
