Damn.

Maybe this is why Paton got a sweet deal for Young?

I was worried this could happen because they held him out yesterday.

BroncoWave

Got a second and third rounder for him. Definitely stockpiling ammo to trade up if there's a QB we really like in the draft.

I dont mind the move, we are going nowhere and the Rams have a chance to win a SB this year. I want to see Von go out on top.

I said yesterday Paton isn't dumb and isn't going to be fooled by this win. This definitely confirms it though.

My favorite thing about his hire was the we got an outside guy who won't be beholden to any of the players we currently have. It's good to have the fresh perspective. Now we have to cash in on these picks.

Hate to lose him, but he had a year left with us tops and he deserves a better shot. Good move by Paton by realizing that even though we still in it "mathematically" in the standings and in some fans hearts, we are not close realistically. We need to worry about who is going to be here long term right now and get as much as we can for those who won't be. Plus I think Von is in the Demarcus Ware part of his career so good for him.

I hate to say this but its a great deal for both teams. Broncos get 2nd and 3rd round pick great trade good value. Denver was going nowhere this year Von might as well end his career on Super Bowl Contender than end his career in this mess.

Von Miller outside of Peyton Manning has been the greatest Bronco player in the past decade. I’ll miss him a lot but I’m really happy for him sucks Von and Chubb never accomplished more together as a pass rush duo I expect so much more like most people that’s my biggest regret here as Von got older the duo that never happened due to injuries to both players it’s sucks I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.

As much as I hate to see the Von era end in Denver, this was a great move by Paton. The chances of Von coming back next season were slim to none. This team isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Eat the salary and get the 2nd and 3rd round picks. Time to move Fuller, KJ, and a couple of others as well.

I appreciate all the things Von has done for this franchise, but I agree with the move to acquire any picks for him. He’s a shell of his former self and the last few years, injuries and Father Time has sapped his other worldly gifts. He will return as a both a ROF and HOF. Best of luck to him on his post-Broncos career.
Now let’s move on from Vang and this terrible coaching staff and start the young bloods. Next trade will be Melvin, Fuller and Jackson.

You aren't being shamed for advocating for a rebuild last week, silly! You're being shamed for acting like those moves proved that Paton was still trying to win now and that he didn't want to rebuild. That's very clearly not the case since we won and still dealt Von. They probably had this trade agreed to last week and the lb they sent was the first part of it.

Shame buff, shame!

Again, if we don't retain either player, then they were dumb win-now moves and they are players who fit in a scheme that might not be around next year.

They also may prove to be sensible auditions for future contributors -- but there was reason to be skeptical last week! I remain skeptical, though this move certainly assuages a lot of my fears about Paton's mindset.

A healthy Von and Aaron Donald, with the way Stafford is playing, makes them favorites to knock off the Bucs and put an end to this Cardinals stuff.

As a Raider fan, he's probably the best Bronco player rival I've witnessed, at least top 3. Good luck to him.

Smh they were never win now move’s! More like we have damn near nothing left at LB and there’s a pretty solid guy available so let’s go get them! Now we trade Miller for a 2nd and 3rd so any doubt should be removed……. Paton has always had his eyes in the future. Now he needs to demand that teddy is benched so we can see what Lock has king forward

Man Von and Donald is going to be terrorizing for offense’s. Von will finally get to play opposite of a guy who demands a double team and wreck’s havoc on team’s. The last time we seen Von play with a guy of this caliber was Demarcus ware and we know how that ended up! The often injured/ underachieving Chubb never gave Von what he needed but Donald surely will

We were never contenders for Stafford. You were lied to by the media on that. Stafford and McVay were vacationing together in February and agreed to the trade then. The lions weren't going to ship Stafford somewhere he didn't want to go. Just get the idea out of your head that we ever had a shot at Stafford.

No one wants Von to go, but for the people having a meltdown, you have to face reality. This is not a playoff team, far from it. Von is a FA in 2022 that obviously will have much more value to a contending team than a rebuilding one. Do you really want to pay $20+ million for Von next year when he’s proven he can’t help THIS team win any longer?

Any comp pick would not help us until 2023, and it would be a 3rd at most. A 2nd & 3rd in 2022 is an absolute steal for a guy with just a handful of months left on his contract. Von goes to a contending team, and Paton has more ammo next year for a QB.

Hawgdriver
11-01-2021, 12:42 PM
This sucks big time, but what feels absolutely fuggin great is how well Paton was able to do Von a solid while making a good GM move. Von and Stafford on the same team with McVay and Donald...

This also sheds a lot more color on the vibe of the team recently...I'm sure there was some chatter, and when you chatter about trading the franchise player, it means something. Why Fangio and Shurmur have been so listless.

Maybe.

Well, Von, been a helluva ride dude. Makes me sad to think it's the end of an era, it does. But I'm also happy for the start of his new career on a SB type team, and happy for the Paton era to begin in earnest.

These picks need to be used to bolster the OL and LB position’s. The broncos won’t have to trade away anything to draft one of these quarterbacks. Chances are you’ll get one that you like without having to do all that because nobody seems excited about this class of guy’s.

Von will fit in well with the Rams. He’ll probably be rejuvenated going to a damn good team. I hope the best for him.

He didn't need to be 'rejuvenated' he just needed to be turned loose. Fangios read first defense was always a waste of his talents. Had we done the smart thing and hired a real HC it never would have come to this.

Watch, we beat the Cowboys and Eagles and head into the bye at 6-4 and in first place in the AFCW. That would be a very Broncos thing to do.

I don’t know if we beat the cowboys and eagles with Teddy……. We shouldn’t even have won vs the lousy skins but they just didn’t want the W. The broncos will likely lose the next two games and aslong as Fangio and shurmer aren’t fired we’re going to stay the course totally wasting 9 games of seeing what Lock has this year.

This trade of Miller should be telling Fangio and shurmer that he (Paton) doesn’t like what they have going and that he feels this team is rebuilding. So when the **** are they going to bench teddy?

11-01-2021, 12:49 PM

I guess I'm also pissed about the optics...hold him out for a game...then it seems that he was traded and didn't know he was going to the rams. Also, fangio has been blindly disrespecting Von since he's come here in the media and on the field. Good for Von though, he's gonna eat. Imagine having Leonard Floyd, Von Miller, and Aaron Donald on the same defensive front. And oh yah Jalen Ramsey. Love the way the Rams front office built that team. Teams over value draft picks....

What the Rams are doing is a massive gamble. If it gets them a ring, great strategy. But if it doesn't, they are screwed for a long time. I don't hate the strat, but it's not one that's going to set them up for a long run of success.

To be honest in the modern NFL players dont often retire with the teams they started with or had SB success with. Favre ended his career elsewhere, Brady most likely will end his in Tampa. Had Elway played in recent years he most likely would have been allowed to walk or traded elsewhere. Its just not the same as it was in the 90's and past decades. As with the interview with Von he will most likely retire a Bronco and come back to be honored in the Ring of Fame when all is said and done. Im sure he understands this is all business and not personal.

Ive known King a long time and he isnt a joke of a fan. He was a Bengal fan for a long time and as easy as it would be for him to jump back on the Bengals bandwagon he hasnt done that. Not sure why he wanted to be a Steeler fan but he wasnt accepted as a Bronco fan with people such as yourself insulting him like this. I just dont understand the animosity towards him, he argues his points well when he debates and likes the game of football in totality.

I started out as a Cowboys fan when i was young then in 82' became a Bronco fan which ive been for 35+ years. And to be honest after last year i seriously thought of not being one anymore (same with Virginia on the college level) but ultimately i just relaxed and quit taking the sport so seriously. Ive grown to appreciate the things this franchise has accomplished that many other organizations (Bengals) have not. Its easy to chastise someone for switching teams when you are a fan of a team that has had it much better as a franchise than others.

People always bust my balls about my Tom Brady love or that i rooted for the Pats or Bucs in the SB's against the teams they faced. I DONT GIVE A ****. I love the sport and like certain players on teams while hating other teams and franchises. I will never root for an AFC rival to win a SB, ever. But i have no problem putting my support behind the Saints when they played Indy, or the Cardinals when they played the Steelers. Who cares that a football fan supports another team even if its not the team they love? Makes no sense to be derogatory about that.

The face of the franchise has been traded.

The Broncos sent All-Pro linebacker Von Miller to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, one day ahead of the trade deadline, in exchange for second- and third-round picks in 2022, according to a league source.

The trade won’t be officially announced until Miller, who missed Sunday’s win over Washington with an ankle injury, passes a physical and signs the required paperwork with the Rams. The deal was finalized ahead of Tuesday’s 2 p.m. deadline.

“This was a surprise,” Miller told reporters outside the team facility. “You see (trade rumors) in the media, every year for the last four years, I’ve seen it. But it’s hard to grip with reality sometimes. This team, they’re going to start winning soon. We’ve got a lot of great players and a lot of great coaches here, and the staff is amazing. I wanted to be a part of it to fix it, but you’ve just got to keep moving.”

Miller added: “I had a lot of beautiful years here, a lot of great memories, a lot of great teammates, a lot of great coaches, a lot of great fans. I’ll never forget all of those people.”

AND

Miller met individually this morning at the Broncos’ facility with general manager George Paton, coach Vic Fangio, president/CEO Joe Ellis and president of football operations John Elway.

They sat Von out for a reason vs WFT, and it’s not because Fangio is worried about player safety/health.

Sorry, but that's a fairytale in today's NFL. Even Tom Brady, likely the GOAT at this point, didn't make it all the way with his original team. I love Von. He's my second favorite Bronco of all time. https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart-Rich-Hill.asp

If it's a 2 and a 3, that's a max of 258 and a min of 140 according to the Rich Hill chart (more accurate than the defunct JJ chart). That is about the same as overall pick #22 (best) or #42 (worst).

However, it's also good to value the optionality of it--two fungible units are better than one, all else equal. In addition, 2's, and to some extent 3's, are especially good considering the talent available compared to the cap hit.

Dude trust me you can sympathize if you want but it’s a joke to most people and that doesn’t mean king is fluke at life or a person. And don’t accuse me of being the reason he’s not a broncos fans because that was you all that gave him that shit long before I got here, ida never said he wasn’t a broncos fan but ida definitely busted his balls about being a hopper. And he is indeed a hopper and that’s fine it’s not a crime smh. Having 4 different teams in your adult life is not normal dude and there’s only certain types of fans who does that shit and they are joked on for it.

Describing it as an insult is beyond extreme smh.

King is my guy but king meets the criteria of a hopper lol but that’s fine.

Von Miller was in just as much shock as Broncos Country after the team traded the perennial Pro Bowl outside linebacker to the Rams on Monday in exchange for second- and third-round picks.

Speaking to reporters outside team headquarters a couple of hours after the news broke, the 32-year-old said he felt “kind of numb” in the immediate aftermath.

“(The trade) was a surprise,” he said. “This team, they’re going to start winning soon. … We’ve got a lot of great players and a lot of great coaches here, and the staff is amazing. I wanted to be a part of it to fix it, but you’ve just got to keep moving.”

Miller, the Broncos’ franchise sack leader with 110.5, spent Monday morning meeting individually with coach Vic Fangio, general manager George Paton and president/CEO Joe Ellis, as well as saying goodbye to teammates before he departed from the facility around noon.

Much love to Von. This gives the team a 2nd and a 3rd back, and gives him a chance to win another ring this year. Well most of these discussions aren't had with absolutes. I'm sure he and his agent suspected conversations were happening. That's always a valid assumption on **** teams at trade deadline. That doesn't necessarily take much edge off when the trigger gets pulled on a face of the franchise.

As much as Von seems to love Denver and is sad to go, I can't imagine he's going to be sad for too long when it sinks in that he's now on the Super Bowl favorites and is about to get to play next to Aaron Donald. Paton hooked him up nicely on that way out. And if Von really loves Denver so much and wants to retire here, he can come back in free agency this offseason. I don't think he will, but he has that option.

Former Broncos linebacker Von Miller quickly got emotional Monday as he offered his reaction to being traded to the Rams.

As the eight-time Pro-Bowler approached the Denver airport for Los Angeles on Monday, Miller spoke to local reporter Troy Renck from his car.

"I've been here through the ups and the downs," Miller shakily told Renck. "It's always tough whenever you leave, but I love all my fans and I love Broncos country. When I said 'Broncos for life,' I meant that. They'll always be in my heart."

The 32-year-old linebacker was acquired by the Rams in exchange for two second-day 2022 draft picks on Monday morning, Adam Schefter reported. Miller was first drafted by the Denver franchise in 2011 and has been with the Broncos for his entire NFL career.

And for the people who want to hang Paton over this (which I think is absurd, when the shock/emotion of losing him wears off, you'll realize it was a sensible deal), I doubt he made this deal without signoff from Elway and Ellis. Given his reluctance to shake up the QB position and fire the incumbent coach in his first year, I highly doubt he just unilaterally traded THAT guy. I'm guessing this was an organization decision to turn the page and really start to focus on the future.

Pat Bowlen's Denver Broncos would not have traded a legend like Von Miller, who even after dealing with bad coaches, teams, and being misused by Fangio, still wanted to be here until the end. An outsider and non-Bronco like Paton would never understand the value of such loyalty.
