I'm working on building a pc. I want to keep the price around $1,000. I want something that is 4k capable, but I won't be doing 4k right now because 4k monitors are still hella expensive.

Super hard to read, but looks like a 2600 build? Have they come down in price? 1600s have been so super cheap, I'd have a tough time not going 1600. But 2600 is understandable too.

Can it be a Dell? You can get a lot for $1000 from these guys. They ship from Texas.

https://discountelectronics.com/

(https://discountelectronics.com/)Just tell them the specs you want and they'll give you options.

I'd take Frey's build over that garbage.

The best 'deal' they have is this one

https://discountelectronics.com/dell-optiplex-9020-quad-i7-ssd-gtx-1650-gaming-pc/

and it's a sad fraction of the power of Frey's rig & w/o a monitor for only $200 less. Basically throwing away money.

Edit: assuming we are looking into gaming rigs

Frey it feels like you could shave some $$ by going w/ a 1600 and a different mobo. Microcenter.com is worth a look. Maybe there's a hidden gem in 'hoofster's link but nothing jumped out at me.

Am I reading that right as only 8gb of RAM? That seems a little light. Guess it depends on your use.

I can get a lot more by buying the individual parts and putting it together myself :D which is my plan. I don't let other people build my computers, I do that myself.

Right now I'm sitting at 1145. I'm slightly over budget, but I think I can get my wife onboard, especially since this crisis has left me with a lot of overtime at work as we move to work from home.

Yea it is, and I've bumped it up to 16gb. I originally was skimping in some areas like ram knowing I could add another stick in a few months.

when you finish, compare it to these two to see if you have done a good job (imo)

Powerspec is the Microcenter store brand and they are hard to beat from a performance per dollar standpoint.

Mine is pretty comparable to the $1200 one, difference is, I have a 2060 instead of a 2070 and I have a high end gaming monitor included in my price point.

The rate is good enough for me.

Currently I have it on the stand, but I plan to wall mount it.

edit: that's a good price for a nice 43" monitor

This one does have the screw holes to mount it to a wall, if you are able to do that in your situation.

You gonna stream some shit?

I am indeed. I'm building a desk in my room so that I have a moderately secluded streaming space.

I tried streaming awhile back and even had some success with it (100 followers and hit Twitch affiliate) but I'm mostly starting from scratch with a proper stream setup this time.

Last time I was on a crappy laptop, with a green piece of cloth thumbtacked to the back wall and a crappy headset microphone.

First game once i return will be to play the remaster of Final Fantasy VIII with some modding to make it look better. Final Fantasy VIII is one of the only games in the series I've never beat.

Good luck in your endeavors!

I bought my setup, not to play video games, but to try and actually concentrate on making a game. Been tinkering for years. Hopefully now that I have invested a lot of cash into software and equipment, I will actually sit down and do it!

Here's to our expensive hobbies hopefully turning into something, but if not, ah well, they were still fun, right? :)

I am probably out of excuses for getting shit done, which is good because I am also out of money.
