To be clear he's not suspended yet, and who knows for how long it will be.

The raiders fined him 56k for all the shit he missed during helmet gate. So, being the absolute dumbass be is, he posts the official letter he got from the team explaining the fines on social media yesterday, with his own comments about his own team hating on him. So this leads to a fight with Mayock, who is gonna shelf his ass and probably has the biggest case of buyers remorse of all time.

I’ve had Brown on my FF team since his rookie year and he’s never acted like this before. Who knows what really happened in the Steelers’ looker room between him & Big Ben over the past 2 seasons that offended him so much that he forced a trade, but he needs to grow up & get over it.

Its amazing, really. I've been following the NFL for half a Century, and one thing about the league that has never changed is that a-holes, mopes, boneheads, goldbricks, and sociopaths somehow end up with bad organizations. The terrible franchises seem to be the ones most prone to falling for the " Physical Talent > Character" fantasy, which almost never works out for the terrible franchise. This is then called "bad luck"

That Burfcit hit screwed his head up man.

Read a lot of speculation on that. Not as bad as the Anquan Boldin hit, but it was a “how is he not dead?” kind of shot.

He doesn’t sound well in interviews - and his latest Instagram message was incoherent - but I’m not familiar with how he sounded in college. “Punch Drunk” seems a real possibility with the hits to the head he’s taken.

Ah, the Raiders will always be the Raiders. What I wonder is what team would line up to take AB if the Raiders can't handle him.

Try and imagine just deciding that you don't have to come in to work today, just because you want a personal day. You don't tell your boss you're not coming in, you just don't show, and your absence is unexcused.

Then they fine you for failing to show up and do your job and you publicly attack the company. When they respond to this, you threaten to beat up your boss, forcing other employees to physically separate you from said boss.

Q: How long would you keep your job?

Any job I've ever had you'd be fired immediately for doing any of these things.

Antonio Brown called Mike Mayock a “cracker” during Wednesday’s altercation

More details about the Wednesday conversation between Raiders wide receiver Antonio Brown and General Manager Mike Mayock have come to light, including language used by Brown that escalated the situation ahead of Thursday’s reports of a possible suspension.

The conversation came after Brown posted a letter from Mayock informing him of fines for missing practice time on social media and PFT has learned, via a league source, that Mayock told Brown that the team preferred to keep such matters private. Brown then began hurling insults at Mayock that included calling him a “cracker.”

Previous reports also indicated that Brown threatened to punch Mayock in the face during the exchange. Josina Anderson of ESPN also reports that Brown used the word cracker and other “cuss words” during the exchange, but quotes a team source as saying that the altercation never appeared to be spilling from verbal to physical.

“[Mayock] was like, ‘I’m cool, I understand your displeasure,'” the source said. “[Mayock] sort of just like . . . just walked away because he saw it escalate.”

So, to recap … guy acts like a selfish, entitled jerk for months. Guy gets fined by him employer for acting this way. Guy shames his employer online (mentions how they “hatin’” on him), then goes and confronts his boss, threatening to fight him and storms off.

In the real world, this guy is fired. But since this particular guy can do things most other people in the world can’t do, his behavior gets swept under the rug and allows him to continue acting like a me first a-hole in the future.

This is a bummer in the short term for the Broncos, since now the Raiders best player is playing in this game. Long term, though, this will be bad for the Raiders. First, it’s clear (if it wasn’t before) that Mayock is a complete cuck with no real authority in that building. Gruden controls all. That’s not a good look for him, as Gruden should have his back here and it would make me question the power structure on this team if I were a free agent. And second, the precedent of AB playing this week tells the other 52 guys that they can pretty much get away with anything if they’re good enough on the field. This will be a problem for them at some point, hopefully soon.

Sure, anything is possible. But most coaches get four year deals and if the team has to eat the last couple of years if the guy sucks, so be it. Gruden has ten years and $100 million, not to mention that Mark Davis practically beats off at the mention of his name (there’s a piece on SI today where Jack Del Rio says that Davis always coveted Gruden and if he was available, del Rio knew he was gone). I just think they have a natural reset with a franchise relocation next year if they really want to take it. However, a winning year this year secures people’s jobs and sets them up better to build a fan base in Vegas.

I wonder if the Raiders legal team reviewed everything involved and worried that they would lose an appeal and still owe Brown a boat-load of money.

Releasing him, AND still having to pay him would be disastrous. Even Mayock would agree to that.

Of course, that's all just speculation, but losing a grievance hearing in such a situation would be a risk you'd want to avoid at all costs.

Yeah but there’s gotta be some law and order. Even if they don’t release him, a fat fine and suspension is in order for violating team rules and, I dunno threatening to punch the GM?! It’s like bizarro world out there. Could you imagine if Von and Elway got into it and Von threatened to punch Elway in the face and called him a cracker? They had plenty of evidence for actions detrimental to the team, and were carefully curating that through the fines and other actions. The only reason he is still there is because he can play and until he can't people will put up with his crap.

The Oakland Raiders have fined Antonio Brown more than $215,000 for conduct detrimental to the team, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

By fining Brown, the Raiders voided the $29.125 million worth of guaranteed money in his deal, sources said.

In addition the Raiders sent Brown a letter that he no longer will be entitled to termination pay in the event that they release him, sources said.

As a result, Brown is playing on a week-to-week basis with both his guaranteed money voided and lack of termination pay.

No they won't. His conduct has been detrimental and the Raiders are perfectly in line with his contract, the NFL, and NFLPA in voiding them.

That was purposely written into the contract in case he went head case, he did.

If Gruden says he's supposed to start Monday night and he doesn't show he makes their case even stronger.

I don't know, is this possibly a CTE issue? Is it possible there's something legitimately wrong medically with him?

If so he needs to quit playing anyhow.

Oh, im not arguing that they shouldnt have done it. They were smart to do so im just saying that if they tried to make nice by giving it back AB would brag that he won and they would take a mountain of shit for folding. What they should do is just cut bait from this guy and yes, i think he needs serious help here which the NFL should really be looking at.

Speculation with Cleveland is that they used to have to play him twice a year. He currently owns property in their end zone, and lived rent free in the heads of that organization.

Assume he's not going to go insane again (big assumption) and you're a team with a great QB and the upside of the signing on paper is there. Don't WR's and QB's take awhile to build chemistry? Can you trust him to learn the playbook/scheme/terminology/whatever else I'm forgetting quickly or quick enough?

There's a lot that goes into this even before you factor in that he's clearly not right upstairs.

Then again, for a cheap contract, knowing that you can just say "we'll cut you the first sign of trouble," and you're a stable organization, maybe it is.

So, Antonio Brown gets 100% exactly what he wants. Do none of you see what this means for the NFL? It's not good folks.

See Antonio Brown didn't want to play for the Steelers anymore. He'd grown tired of Ben Roethlisberger and he didn't see eye to eye with Mike Tomlin. Plus, he's a King Hell narcissist and he wasn't getting enough attention.

So, he forced his way out of Pittsburgh. Never mind that he had signed a four-year, $68 million in February 2017! Just tear it up! I want out!

"A heated dispute with a Roethlisberger during a Wednesday walkthrough escalated to the point where Brown threw a football at the QB (https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/antonio-brown-timeline-from-steelers-drama-to-trade-to-raiders-release-breaking-down-every-step/), and the wideout opted to then skip the remaining practices leading up to the team's Week 17 battle with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Brown was benched for that game, and while the official team stance was injury-related, the reality could neither have been further from the truth nor hidden anymore from the public eye. The reign of Brown in Pittsburgh was at an end, and the final chapter with the organization was messy. The world would never see Brown in a Steelers' jersey again, and teammates would later reveal the end had been years in the making."

March 2019 - Trader Joe

As bold and braggadocios as ever, Brown made it clear he was fine never suiting up again for the Steelers. It was essentially, as he went on to describe it, his way or the highway.

"I don't even have to play football if I don't want," he told Jeff Darlington of ESPN. "I don't even need the game. I don't need to prove nothing to anyone. If they wanna play, they going to play by my rules. If not, I don't need to play. Obviously, I want the game, but I don't need the game. It's a difference."

That's not exactly the level of commitment to the sport potential trade suitors want to hear, but the ability of Brown was just too good to ignore for some clubs. With the Tennessee Titans, Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders all entertaining a possible trade for the mercurial wideout,

He decided he didn't want to play for Pittsburgh because they fined him for misconduct, then proceeded to be a giant Dick-Head until they were forced to deal him to Oakland for a 3rd and a 5th round pick.

Basically the Raiders were gambling that Jay Gruden could reach Brown and motivate him to play for the Raiders by showing him all the love. He continued to eat that turd sandwich even after Brown threatened to punch GM Mike Mayock in the face.

Now, I know what you are thinking! Punching Mike Mayock in the face isn't all bad! But, you don't work for the man and Brown does.

Now, Brown clearly didn't want to play for the lowly Raiders. They aren't going anywhere this year whether Brown plays for them or not. They are the Raiders after all.

He wants to play for a team that will automatically win a SB if they land him.

Like the New England Patriots. Possibly he might consider playing for the Eagles or perhaps the Rams.

But, you can bet he has already figured out where he wants to go. He'll probably get some ridiculous minimum offer from Bill Belichick, go to the Patriots and suddenly he's a model citizen. As long as he gets his way.

Remember Randy Moss? He'd worn out his welcome in the NFL, so he went to New England to win a Championship with Tom Brady (20-0 but lost the SB to the Giants). He was suddenly a model citizen and you didn't hear a peep out of him.

Antonio Brown is doing the same thing.

We should be familiar with this from the NBA. Players all want to play in LA or New York (Kyrie and Kevin Durant to the Nets, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George to the Clippers, notice a pattern?)

So, they can force teams to trade them -- but only to the team they want to play for.

The NBA is essentially becoming completely unrestricted FA for every star player in the League. If they decide they don't want to play for their team they just force a trade. Team has no choice but to get rid of them or they'll be totally disruptive. Fining them won't help, it will only escalate the distraction they can cause by media saturation.

Now Brown is pulling the same crap in the NFL and getting away with it? That's bad. That's real Bad! :tsk:

Seriously though, you make that sound like some unprecedented novelty, but it's been that way longer than Brown's been ALIVE. Remember when Csonka left the NFL entirely because the short-lived WFL threw a truckload of money at him? Or when Steve Young blew off the NFL entirely because the equally brief USFL did the same thing? And all that was before the CBA that came out of the '87 strike, let alone the cap. One time some punk college phenom demanded a trade before he'd even played a pro DOWN, just because he knew he'd get his way solely because he was the #1 overall pick. And he was right.

That was spring of '83; Antonio Brown was born in the summer of '88.

Aside from the fact that the Patriots are now guaranteed to win the SB you mean? Did you not figure that out yet?

Why do the Nuggets not sign players like Paul George or Kawhi Leonard or Kevin Durant? Because those players have zero interest in coming here. They all want to live the big life in LA or New York. Denver is a small market fly-over town of no interest to them.

The NFL on the other hand doesn't let the players dictate where they want to play. You play where you're drafted or nowhere because they own your rights and that's the way it is.

Until Antonio Brown just forced two teams to trade or release him so that he can go to the Patriots and form a super-team.

You know how that works out. Kevin Durant goes to the Golden State Warriors, then to the Nets, while Kawhi Leonard gives the big middle finger to small market Toronto and flies off to play for the Clippers.

Notice that in all this Denver was never a consideration at all. I do NOT want that happening to the NFL or else a bunch of top players will all decide they want to play together to form a super-team in New York or LA or Boston, or Miami, and Denver will never win another championship.

It would destroy the competitive balance of the NFL which is the biggest reason why it is so much better than baseball or basketball.

Baseball has more parity than the NFL. Also, please check your condescending tone. It's hard to take it seriously from a guy who will support moves and then bash them and the guy who made them a season or two later.

The NFL is not going the way of the NBA. One, there are far more star players in the NFL than the NBA, and far more positions. Two, it's much harder to force your way out in the NFL than the NBA. Why? Because guaranteed dollars is what counts -this is an outlier- in a sports with far more injuries. NFL players take the money as soon as they can - you almost never see a NFL player leave upwards of 50-60 million dollars on the table like Anthony Davis just did.

Moreover, the Knicks can't sign anyone. GS is a decent sized city/area and only recently have they been any good and able to sign anyone. How many huge top dollar free agents have the Mavs signed recently? The Bulls did they get someone recently? Even in the NBA it's not just about the big city unless we ignore that some big city teams are more than just a large market and are well ran - The Clippers for instance- so I'm not convinced, either.

Dude. It's not any just big city. It's only a few big coastal cities. LA, New York, Boston, Miami. That's about it. Dallas and Houston are very big cities, but you don't see a ton of FAs clamoring to go there.

Golden State is an S.F. (northern California in general) team. Coastal big-market city.

Denver Nuggets should have been able to lure a big name FA like Kawhi or Paul George or Lebron. Why wouldn't they want to play here? The Nuggets won 54 games and nearly went to the Conference finals without any bigger established stars than Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray. Nice players both, but why didn't a player like Jimmy Butler or Kyrie or Kevin Durant want to come here when it would automatically mean an NBA title next season?

Because Denver is a fly-over city. They just didn't even consider the Nuggets.

The Broncos are basically in the same position. We think highly of ourselves here in Denver, but as Elway is finding out, FAs don't give a damn about Denver now that Peyton Manning has retired. A QB Elway wanted badly was Kirk Cousins, but Cousins sent word that he wasn't even interested in an interview.

The NFL is very different from basketball because the owners control player movement much more than they do in baseball or basketball. The players may be underpaid, but the fact that the Minnesota Vikings can draft just as easily as the LA Rams or the Giants makes for competitive balance. Indianapolis has just as good a chance to win in the draft as the Patriots do, and the salary cap ensures competitive balance.

Unfettered player movement while still under contract will cause problems for the NFL. There are any number of players who are watching what Antonio Brown did and thinking "why can't I force my way out of my contract and go play for the Rams in LA?"

What you're not taking into account is that Brown walked away from a $30m contract and will get nothing remotely like that in NE. Why did he do it? Because he can make money in a lot of other ways. Primarily he wants to build his brand and get a bigger shoe contract, and other endorsement deals. Playing for a SB Championship in Boston will boost his start power immensely -- and thus his outside earnings.

It's all about building the brand dude!
