I came in here thinking it was a joke thread about Drew Lock being the QB, but I see that Lock in the subject was a typo.

That’s the first thing I thought when I heard he was retiring. Some smart owner is going to load up his offensive line and get some good targets then woo said strumpet in a year or 2.

Indy still holds his rights for 3 years, so if he did decide to come back, any team would have to trade a boatload to get him.

Luck may come back after a year away from football if his health improves. He didn't have to give back the 24 million paid to him by the Colts after a settlement. I wish him well, but I don't see him a Bronco in the near future.

Indeed. Why would the Colts trade him at all? If he's ever going to come back, presumably he would play for the Colts or nobody. And, the longer he sits, the less likely he will be to ever come back.

I've never really been clear on how the rights to the player works when a player retires and then comes back.

The team retains their rights for the full term of the contract, but doesn't pay them, except for any guaranteed portion of their contract.

So, if he wants to come back to the NFL his old team still has his rights. Otherwise players would "retire" all the time and then come back the next year as FAs. Obviously the owners wouldn't allow that.

"Luck signed a five-year, $122 million contract in 2016. He was set to earn a base salary of $9.125 million in 2019 and a roster bonus of $12 million."

He's under contract till 2021. He can't play for any team but the Colts unless they decide to trade him. And why would they do that unless Jacoby Brissett somehow freakishly turns out to be a star?
