Figured that draft day thread is going to burgered soon as the draft progresses, so I though I'd give this guy his own thread to discuss.

I'll be honest, I didn't even know who he was...mostly because I wasn't looking much outside of the top 10. That said, I'm pretty excited about him and what he brings to the table. With an extra 2nd round pick, and a 3rd next year, I'd say this was a successful day for us. Here is a vid on him that I found helpful:

Like the pick a lot. He’s a receiving weapon, which is much needed on this team. He’ll play a lot in the slot, or should.

Nice highlights and insight by Kittle.

Looks like Fant could really help the offense.

There's nothing wrong with Fant. Those arguing that he "wasn't even the best TE on his college team" are wrong. The pick wasn't great though because they desperately need ILBs who can cover TEs over the middle and there were only 2 elite ones in the draft.

They were looking at Devin Bush at #10 and blinked. And that is gonna cost them. TEs you can find in later rounds. Travis Kelce was taken in they third round as were most of the best TEs in the league. Gronk himself was taken in the second round at #42.

As much as i wanted Bush or White i can live with Fant. TE was a need i just didnt feel it was a bigger need than LB. But considering what is happening with Harris i have a feeling its going to be up to the offense to carry the load this year as the defense seems to be getting weaker by the minute. Nothing has really given me an indicator that the defense is going to be the backbone anymore at this point so i guess Denver better load up on Olineman, backs, and receivers.

Oh, im sure he feels that way just like Kingsbury thinks he will make Murray into Vick. But until it actually happens for either coach we have to deal with the here and now.

The offense doesn't have a prayer of "carrying the load" this season. Even if you assume that Joe Flacco is going to have a repeat of 2014 when he threw 27 TDs and only 12 picks and threw for nearly 4,000 yards, that is not REMOTELY as good as NFL MVP Pat Mahomes who threw for 50 TDs.

The Chiefs offense is so much better than anything the Broncos can hope to field under Flacco, that its' not even worth talking about. They have to slow down that high-powered offense and win with DEFENSE, because they sure as hell can't out-score the Chiefs. Or the Chargers or probably the Raiders either.

If they can hold the Chiefs to under 24 points, instead of the 35 points per game they averaged last season, then they have a chance because the Chiefs defense isn't great. But, that is going to take great defense.

Bush would have been perfect because he's great in coverage and they need to be able to cover Travis Kelce.

Then there's the Raiders who now have Derek Carr throwing to Antonio Brown. They better have Chris Harris to cover him or it's going to be ugly -- he had 1297 yards on 104 receptions and 12 TDs last year.

In fact the entire off-season plan was to strengthen the defense. They got Vic Fangio, long time defensive coordinator to install his successful Chicago defense. They went out and strengthened the secondary with Kareem Jackson.

And they had a chance to get a dominant defender in Bush, but screwed that up royally. Nothing against Fant who looks like a good addition. But, they ain't going to win anything in this division on offense.

Jewell isn't that athletic and isn't good in coverage as we saw last year. He's a solid run defender, and good tackler. But, that isn't going to help when they have to stop guys like Travis Kelce.

The market has changed. Just because TE's wre available there in the past doesn't mean they are now. Even year to year that changes.

How big of a drop was it to the next TE on the board? If a long way then we're drafting another Butt and then what's the point?

No RBs or WRs were taken until late rd 1 yesterday, things are changing, get on board

Listen we can postulate on Flacco and get pissed about his obvious mishandling of the chj situation, but if you can grt out of your feelers and view this draft objectively there is no way to evaluate it negatively. You may have like someone better atthe spot but in a purely unbiased eval for talent value and need there is no way to say we missed. Even if you despise a pick like Lock. Given every board ive seen from legit sources he was a value at 42.

Yep. I was a little fired up Thursday night, not necessarily about trading back, but I didn’t think we got decent value for a top ten pick. So far though, Elway has kinda been making this draft his bitch. I think he’s doing exactly what he wants and is really building a solid foundation for this team. He’s addressing weaknesses and doing his best to fill the holes with good players. I liked the Fant pick. I loved day 2.

I love this guy already! He's supposedly bad at blocking but I've read that it's not necessarily true and also that he's very willing learner. Actually, everything I've read and seen of him so far is fantastic! Off the field, he's just an all around superb human being and on the field he's all that and has some attitude to him too!

I can't wait to see him in action.

They were looking at Devin Bush at #10 and blinked. And that is gonna cost them. TEs you can find in later rounds. Travis Kelce was taken in they third round as were most of the best TEs in the league. Gronk himself was taken in the second round at #42.

I disagree he was considered one of the best tight ends in this draft and taking him at 20 was a great pick. Inside linebacker was a need but so was a need but so was tight end. You do realize that Jeff Heuerman was taken in the third round and Jake Butt, and Troy Fumagalli were taken fifth and how has that worked out for the Broncos so far?

There's nothing wrong with Fant. Those arguing that he "wasn't even the best TE on his college team" are wrong. The pick wasn't great though because they desperately need ILBs who can cover TEs over the middle and there were only 2 elite ones in the draft.

They were looking at Devin Bush at #10 and blinked. And that is gonna cost them. TEs you can find in later rounds. Travis Kelce was taken in they third round as were most of the best TEs in the league. Gronk himself was taken in the second round at #42.

Wrong.

Better schemes and zones can mitigate the problem of covering TEs.

We didn't pass on Bush for Fant, we essentially passed on Bush for Fant and Lock. Obviously Fangio and Elway decided our horrifically anemic offense was more important.

They were right.

I’m excited to have a TE without an asterisk behind his name. I guess the blocking thing might be an issue.

My hope is that he will be significantly better than JT.

...and that would be fantastic. TE has been so weak for like 5 years now. 2015 was the last TE worth a damn to opponents with a decrepit Daniels.

Maybe, but if he’s willing to work on it maybe not too much of one. Here’s an article discussing his blocking progression (https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/noah-fant-s-encouraging-blocking-development) from Sophmore to Junior, if he continues the improvement he should be a decent, or even good, blocker.

That's why I don't get Cug's criticism. We've taken three of them in very rounds he's suggested and we're waiting for them to do so.

Watching some interviews with this kid, I like him. Smart kid, excited to be in Denver and seems like hes ready to go to work. I like all three of our 1st/2nd round picks.

Why don’t you just say he’s articulate.

He's very well spoken. Probably was raised by 2 parent household.
