Steve Atwater heard he's HOF finalist same as everybody else. He was in other room when he heard his name on TV. "Hoping me and Mr. B can go in and John Lynch and Champ all the Broncos. Have they called Meck, yet?'' No, waiting on Karl Mecklenburg. Show not over. #9sports

Meant it more in the sense wish he’d only played for Denver / had been retained.

I remember Atwater’s hit on a running back when he came back to Denver with the Jets. He smacked a dude at the Los and knocked his helmet off. I remember at the time thinking it was the Atwater I loved watching in Denver for 10 years. That hit would probably be a penalty in today’s game.

I dont think its a joke but i think there has been far too much bias towards certain teams for a long time. Only now are we finally starting to see more balance to it (with more Bronco players getting in) which is a good move in the right direction.

ATLANTA – For the first time in Broncos' history, there were TWO knocks on hotel doors.

Pro Football Hall of Fame president David Baker knocked on the hotel room door occupied by the family of beloved Broncos owner Pat Bowlen on Saturday, signaling his elections into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Former Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey received the same knock.

Champ and Mr. B are Hall of Famers, sources told 9News.

Former Broncos safeties Steve Atwater and John Lynch have been told they were not elected.

ATLANTA — For weeks, those closest to Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen said it would mean a great deal to him if he could be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame alongside one of his former players.

On Saturday, that presumed hope was realized as Bowlen was selected for the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2019 alongside former Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey.

Bowlen and Bailey join Kevin Mawae, Ty Law, Ed Reed, Tony Gonzalez, Johnny Robinson and Gil Brandt to comprise the Class of 2019.

Bowlen was nominated in August as a Contributor, while Bailey became the franchise’s first defensive player to be elected into the Hall. Bailey joins John Elway as the only Broncos to become first-ballot Hall of Famers.

oh yeah. He just played so long that we got to see him at the end of the career when he was pretty average. Those first 10 years or so we're extremely good. But that said there's no way that law should get in before Steve Atwater. I just waren't going to put in 3 Broncos in the same offseason.

I think Atwater gets in next year. The list of first year eligible players is pretty soft compared to this year:

Troy Polamalu

Patrick Willis

Lance Briggs

Cant make a case for TD and not the same for Willis....so good

You could argue TD basically carrying the Broncos to two super bowls would give him a little better argument than Willis, who only played in one and lost, but a middle linebacker isn't a position that can carry a team to a title, so that could be a more easily dismissible argument.

I do think Willis should get in, but it might take him a little while. It's insane to me that he's already up for the Hof. It feels like he was playing at Ole Miss not that long ago.

Was just looking at his career, it was actually a little longer than I thought. He started 7 full seasons, and made the pro bowl all 7 years, with 5 all pro. That should basically make him a lock.

Jsteve01
02-03-2019, 12:45 PM
The Willis Case is another as I made the analogy before like Tyrell Davis. My case for Tyrell was always was he the best player at his position? And did he make his team better? Even in a league with Emmitt Smith & Barry Sanders Tyrell was still there best running back in the league for a short. Of time. That to me was all the endorsing I needed even Beyond his ridiculous performance in the playoffs. That said was Willis the best middle linebacker in the league? And I would assert that for six or seven years heat most definitely was the best middle linebacker in the league even over a guy like Ray Lewis or Brian Urlacher
