So I finally got a mac. It's used. From 2012, I think. I'm so confused. Does anyone here use a mac so I can pick your brain?

If you have just a little bit of extra money to put into it you can upgrade the RAM and even put an SSD hard drive in it and basically make it like a new one. I think I spent $300 or so and my late 2012 MacBook pro now has 16GB of RAM and a 500GB SSD hard drive and it is the fastest computer I have ever used. It's ridiculous.

You should have bought two of them and throw them both in the garbage.

I would but between your attitude and Case Keenum’s arm the trash is full.

I will probably be there eventually. But right now I have more noob questions. Like how do I update to the newest version? Mine said it’s up to date but it’s a 10.7 I think. An app said it requires 10.10 or greater. Older Macs can still update to the current OS, right?

I think I will like it, but I have just been with Windows so long that it's taking some getting used to. It took a long time to find one at a decent price, so I couldn't pass this one up. This one was $250.

Damn. I want in on that deal. My wife’s been bugging me to get one.

They had the Macbook Pro and an iPad Air 2 for $350. By the time I reached them someone had bought the iPad separately. I was going to buy them both and sell the iPad. Apparently the chick got a new Macbook and didn't need this one. I figured I'd get it before she realized they're selling for a lot more.

IDK anything about macs, but your avy reminds me of Thom Brady for some reason.

Let the record state that Shazam fought a good fight, but officially receives a "that boy dead."

Upon further review, this is the first marked occasion one of the style brothers has victimized someone with a patented "Style-Driver."

I have an older Mac from 2012 as well that I still use to this day with no issues so screw everyone in here! (just kidding, it just works better for the type of work I do, I actually have bootcamp installed with Windows 10 on it so I can play games)

Anyway, I think the highest OS you can install is High Sierra. Look for that as a free download in the App Store, this link should take you there for the download (https://go.skimresources.com/?id=31026X886738&xs=1&isjs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fitunes.apple.com%2Fus%2Fapp%2Fma cos-high-sierra%2Fid1246284741%3Fmt%3D12&xguid=7c964a7efd12a1df9fdf854697a9b63d&xuuid=758f6715ecc55308b502cf0413e1bc18&xsessid=&xcreo=0&xed=0&sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwccftech.com%2Fdownload-macos-10-13-6-high-sierra-with-bug-fixes-and-improvements%2F&xtz=360&abp=1&jv=13.10.6-stackpath&bv=2.5.1).

Let me know if you have any questions about your older yet superior purchase.

Thanks! I finally came across the thread that I needed. I downloaded el capitan so that I could download High Sierra, which is what I have now. It's actually an early 2011 macbook pro. I'm still playing around with it and finding essential apps to download. I've noticed you can't always find what you need in the app store. It was great that the thread I found had the links for el capitan and high sierra. I'm wondering what apps are out there that I might want that aren't in the app store.

The first thing I downloaded was Batman: Arkham City! There are a few good game ports for the Mac like that one, but their productivity software is what I usually get. There are some great tools for music and design as well. Try and upgrade Garage Band if you have time and play around with multitracks. Big artists like NIN will release their music in that format since they record like that so you can do remixes and stuff: http://www.ninremixes.com/multitracks.php

I have a big habit of right-click. That doesn't seem to work on here. Is there a different shortcut/command for that? I like to right click links and open them in a new tab.

Is this a Macbook Pro laptop? A two finger click (that sounds dirty) is a right click from what I remember. I use the magic mouse on a big iMac so I forget. You can switch the trackpad to do this: http://osxdaily.com/2011/05/24/enable-right-click-mac/ or just use a ctrl+click. There are also many gestures you can use to accomplish other things, just check out the settings.

Yes! Both options worked. Things just got a lot better.

Is steam compatible? The only computer game I've every gotten addicted to is Civilization. It's a little expensive in the app store right now. I bought Civ 4 and 5 on steam. Will I be able to make that work?

Yup. Also depending on your hard drive size you can partition part of it with Bootcamp to run Windows if you want. You need a full version of Windows to install, though. If the game is available on Steam for mac, you can get it from steam.
