Lol. Welcome dancing clown punter. You are only allowed to dance 4 times a season, so make them count.

Wait, didn't King say he would buy his jersey?

About the best thing working in this guy's favor is that he pissed off a bunch of Raiders fans by taking a picture with Talib after the pro bowl with talib pretending to snatch his chain.

Having probably the best punter in league at altitude with a sketchy offense and oh god I can't look coverage units is a pretty solid investment.

I guess on those days when I'm feeling old, I can always remember that there are people out there that get upset when a punter has a good time playing a game. Then I'll remember there are older, grumpier ******** than me.

I hated him as a Raider, but I respect the talent and honestly, I'm pretty sure I'll love seeing him on the field as long as he isn't drawing penalties. Plus it pisses off the raiders fans so that's a giant bonus. FTR. Guy pissed off raiders fans by posing with Talib and let him act like he was ripping a chain off. That's a huge plus in my book.

For the two of you upset about this...Raiders were 3rd in starting field position for their opponents, we were 29th. This is a massive signing when it comes to field position.

Which do you think is going to be more effective? The No Flyzone attacking from the 10 or the 40? Our special teams sucked more than Tom Brady in a gay bar, this was a necessary change that goes a long towards fixing a big problem from last year.

I think the point is we are improving our pathetic special teams with a top 5 punter who was released by a team because John Gruden "clashed" with his personality. Personally, I put absolutely ZERO weight or concern in Gruden's assessment of a punters personality.

Not trying to start anything here, but to be fair, its pretty common practice on this board, if you mention a different players name in reference, it is taken as you are in comparison to said player.

Ive had that happen to me many times, even though im sure there is alot of non-intention on your part, its just common practice.

The scenarios to which Manning was released vs King are vastly different. The comparison was beyond stupid and why I mocked it. I just laugh though at the butthurt whenever a fan dislikes a signing as if its mandatory to like every single player to ever play for this team.

It's fine to not like a signing, it's not fine to make trash takes. Your take is very much a trash take. You said he has no talent and he's a top 10 punter. If you would have said "I don't like the guy, he's a Raider" or "God I hate his stupid dancing" that would be one thing, you made a trash take, you got called out for your trash take and then you tried to deflect with your garbage about Manning.

That's my point... Like to say he's not a very talented punter, that's a bad take. That take is so bad it either means A. your football acumen sucks (which it could, but I don't think North is football retarded like that) you've never watched him play and haven't paid attention to his stats (a small possibility) or you are trolling. It's one of the three.

If he would have come out with a reasonable reason to dislike him, I wouldn't have thought anything of it. It's saying he's not talented when he's a punter who is known to be a talented punter...

I know it's weird as hell to be excited about a punter, but talent wise, we have a valid reason to be excited. I get the reasons to dislike the guy, but to claim he's not that good, that's ignorance or blatant trolling. One or the other...

The thing I always hated about him in Oakland is you never knew when he was going to take off and run with it. It's nice having that on our side now. He's an extremely athletic punter so it adds some new wrinkles to our special teams. On top of that, he's got a booming leg and his accuracy is usually spot on (though he does have some inconsistencies accuracy wise)

While I think Dixon got a lot of unnecessary crap from fans, he's a step up from dixon without a doubt. Anyone who says otherwise needs to check themselves.

I like the fact that he stuck it to the raiders by coming here. Regardless of how I felt when he was a raider he makes up for it by making fun of Crabtree and was begging to come here. He cost more than Dixon but is a better punter. He had zero blocked punts, Dixon had 2 which I believe was an NFL high.

Also King is way more athletic so if we do a fake he has speed to break it. I believe he used to be a WR.

Overall, I like this signing. He went from top 5 highest punter to the 16th highest. Broncos got a good deal. Wouldn't be shocked if the raiders pick up Dixon now if we release him before camp.

But let's just assume he gets one taunting call a season while here. That's 15 penalty yards over the whole season.

Now let's compare king's net punting average to Dixon's. 42.7 to 40.2. 2.5 yards per attempt better. That means that within 7 punts, he'll already be a net positive over Dixon yardage wise.

You can't really measure the impact on game flow if he takes a penallty at a bad time...

Von's penalty in Buffalo essentially lost us the game (granted I thought that was a bad call). I don't mind the occasional penalty where a player gets too emotional - I can't excuse the penalties where a guy is just putting himself above the team though.

I'm just saying that there is very little margin for error in special teams. Taking three 15 yard penalties as a punter over two seasons virtually negates all of your positive contributions. It's not insignificant. It's a small sample size.

That's fair, but he punted 150 times the last two seasons. So that equates to .3 penalty yards per punt. I'll take that trade-off for the extra 2.5 net yards per punt.

And honestly, it's not like a 15 yard penalty on a punt has that drastic of an impact on the game. The other team was going to have the ball 1st and 10 either way. It's not like a defensive taunting that could turn a 3rd down stop into a first down.

Even the one last year has zero impact. They were punting the ball, got a roughing, he taunted after, roughing play gets applied, results in a first down for the raiders, then the taunting is assessed and it's first and 10 for the raiders from 15 yards behind the previous spot.

That doesn't justify it by any means, but it's not going to have as big of an impact overall.

This is a slippery slope. Taking a 15 yard penalty is always a negative expected value play. And they are insignificant until they aren't - you know? Anyway - I think we've beat this horse to death... I'm all for the dancing - I just hope he does it with the team's best interests in mind.

So then, net is 2.2 yards. If we want to be nitpicky about the use of the term "net". Which of course, I don't, but if fills this space nicely.

tyler polumbus was just talking about king on orange and blue 760. . . he said repeatedly that king is the best punter in the NFL, and that he honestly thinks the 2016 team would have made the playoffs with king punting for them. . . not sure i buy the last part personally, but tyler is a bright dude, and not given to exaggeration. . . i don't like king, and certainly don't expect anyone else to, but i can't see what's not to like about the signing. . . dude is going to launch some monster punts in our thin air. . . i can understand why some fans wouldn't know this, but the broncos actually ARE allowed to be good on special teams-- it's not against league rules or anything!

It’s a punter. Jeebus.

Man...this guy is a top five punter and has a big personality. And his name is King? This is a wonderful day! But, since he's the new King...I must abdicate my throne.

Time for a new name!

No!

I honestly think the only reason anyone wouldn't like King is because they are butthurt about him dancing in our face after repeatedly pinning us inside the 5. That butthurt will all go away the second he does the same thing to Oakland this year.

The scenarios to which Manning was released vs King are vastly different. The comparison was beyond stupid and why I mocked it. I just laugh though at the butthurt whenever a fan dislikes a signing as if its mandatory to like every single player to ever play for this team.

North, I respect that you don't care for the signing, but if he comes in preforms the same way he has for Raiders then it was good signing. You pointed out earlier that Gruden release for reason but that reason doesn't appear to have anything to do with punting or health. Is he locker room malcontent? I haven't heard anything to that effect have you? (seriously)

Nope but as pointed out he is a distraction and can have drive killing penalties. I'm sorry you guys don't like my stance but I stand steadfast that he was cut for personality issues so I'm hesitant to be excited about this. Good players don't just get cut when they are at the top of their game. I'm baffled that no one else can see the concern here, this guy is nothing about but himself, the exact opposite of what the Broncos need.

You're gonna love and hate him in the same second. That's the general consensus of a man who uses social media to it's fullest to hype a player who wouldn't be talked about in a previous generation.

I was one of the few who didn't hate him and still don't hate him because I get his weirdo ass. The dancing didn't bother me. He's "just a punter" until he's gone and your new or previous punter sucks. I obviously will root for his epic failure but I won't unfollow him on Twitter.

Even though he's the fourth best punter in our franchise's history, he's still a top tier player in his position today. I HIGHLY doubt he'll cost you a game but if he does, he'll be a vital part of a few more, assuming you win some. Given your offense's potential, he's sorely needed. Given the 15+ pages in this thread, he'll be a hot topic for years.

Oh and quick warning, he doesn't draw the enemy line on camera. He may do something like this. Good luck. :)

3 "drive killing" penalties his whole career. Boles has had more than that, as have many of our offensive players. Do you hate all of them as well?

Getting cut and taking a pay cut might also do something about that. Funny how being told you're not worth the hassle nor cash we're paying you has a way of humbling a man.

But has our water boy?

Let's be real, punters only rate slightly higher that water boy and just behind place kicker on the organizational bad assery chart. Unless punters score more points than place kickers, then it goes water boy, place kicker, punter, equipment staff, assistance coaches, and so on.

I think this whole situation might humble the man. Maybe we see a punter that still dances, but is now smart enough not to hurt the team with it. Who knows. At the end of the day we upgraded at an important position for a team with offensive struggles.

I wouldn't disagree with that even a little bit. Talib isn't King, and King isn't going to be a team captain, nor the emotional leader of a unit that was responsible for winning a super bowl. To equate Talib and King would be doing the same thing you were mocking others for a few pages back, equating King and Manning, etc.

They are not the same talent wise and position wise obviously. But they both have very strong personalities and that was the comparison that was being made especially when it applies to the HC who seems unable to reign that kind of behavior in.

Last years team was last year. VJ's a dumbass... No two ways about that, but he has a stronger coaching staff around him this year. Hopefully that will balance things out. If not he'll be fired and we'll start fresh in 2019. Until then, it is what it is.

One has proven himself to his teammates, commands their respect, was a leader on a Super Bowl winning squad, and was a team captain.

The other is a punter. If he tries to sow discord in the locker room by punking out offensive linemen he'll probably get his little facemask shoved up his ass.

Wouldn't be shocked if it is. I don't think he's a good HC at all.

Losing Wade Phillips was a bad decision but hiring VJ over Shanahan was worse. Had we kept Wade and got Kyle then this team would be way better then what it is now. I am still mad about it...confused as hell on why we did that.
