Can confirm the #Broncos are signing former #Browns quarterback Brock Osweiler. It will provide a little break on the $16M guarantee

The QB controversy thickens...

All things considered, he took a bunch of money from the Texans, and he was so bad he made them trade a 2nd round pick to get rid of his salary. Presumably, he's signing for the minimum with us because of the offset language in his contract. I don't get why people are upset at him for not re-signing with us 2 years ago when he ended up playing horribly anyways. I'm actually glad he's back home, guy already knows the offense. Best case, he comes in and wins games for us. Worst case, he's so bad in practice that he sits on the bench the whole year as a backup. In all seriousness, it is a quality signing.

Its weird that he seems incapable of recognizing what good QB play looks like.

Positive spin - he was solid as a Bronco and would have done much better had he stayed here. The coaching, stability, and quality of the organization would have helped him be stable. Also, he was expected to be an elite QB with that contract with the Texans - they signed him before they had even met him.

Negative spin - last year he took DeAndre Hopkins, who had two great years with garbage QBs and rendered him as useful as a used condom. He left Denver ebcause he couldn't stomach the shadow of Elway, and he's a coward. He's not all that talented, he's fairly stupid, and he might be damaged goods. He was one of the biggest laughing stocks in all of football last year.

I presume we cut him after Lynch's shoulder heals up? I don't know where he fits.

So Osweiler re-signs with the Broncos.

So is everybody now going to have Siemian looking over his shoulder?

Forget the fact that this is essentially Oz's 4th team, and he has been cut twice.

He's a backup. That is what he is. That is likely what he'll ever be.

Timmy!
09-02-2017, 04:39 PM
In all reality, I'd have rather put Sloterhouse on the 53, I hope he clears waivers. However, once we waived him, of all the QBs available for vet minimum, signing a guy who was with the team for 4 years, has a Superbowl ring with a big ass Broncos logo, and knows the locker room isn't the worst thing ever. He will likely be gone when Lynch is healthy anyway.....i think? Just saying.

Osweiler is a deserter and a traitor. In the military, you get shot for these things.

QB 1 - guy who can hit the 'big throw's by putting everything he has into them.

QB 2 - guy with big arm who is awkward, and though he's a giant he had the most passes tipped at the LOS last year.

QB 3 - guy with a massive arm, underdog hard worker with a chip on his shoulder, has the most upside, and played better than the other two ever had during preseason, albeit it's just preseason.

I am baffled.

I'm actually kinda shocked by the reaction in here. Jesus Christ, it's not like we're bringing him in to start. I'm actually kinda intrigued to see how he does coming back here. He wasn't bad in his stint here, and maybe now with all of the pressure of that big contract gone, he can just relax, sit on the bench, and be in a better state of mind to play well if called upon.

This is a low risk signing and I don't mind it.

It's not the signing of Brock that's troubling, it's cutting our best QB prospect to make room for it that is the issue.

I probably would have preferred to just keep Sloter, but it was a pipe dream to hope he would ever be anything special. Zac Dysert looked good in the preseason too. Brock has been pretty bad but he's just a backup. They all suck anyway. Really unimportant thing to get worked up about.

Cannot believe he would bring him in.

I also wonder what this would do with the locker room. I think many of the players have grown to respect Sloter along with the rest. The veterans from 2015 I am sure took it a bit personal in how Osweiler left.

Yes and no.

Had Oz just left for money and kept his mouth shut without throwing Denver under the bus i would of left well enough alone. But, he just had to mouth off about how great O'Briens offense was (they didnt score a lot while he was there), talked about cant play under shadows, admitted to still being butthurt for being benched for the actual starter of the team. So yes, in his case Staples it was a treacherous move out from Denver.

I disagree, and so do most BRONCO fans. He was the successor of this team, but became butthurt and had tunnel vision only about himself. Sure, Texans threw him a little bone, but he left out of spite more than for the money, so he is a traitor. It backfired on him. We'll never know if he would have had continued success, or it was just those few games and the San Diego game revealed who he really was. My understanding is that until the regular season starts we aren't allowed the option of reneging if someone claims a cut player off waivers: We had our chance, and now it's first come, first served for what remains an exclusive contract with Sloter.

Also, if anyone still needed proof that Kap is being blackballed from the NFL, Osweiler was only on the market for 24 hours. I mean...
Except Oz succeeded where Kap failed in the quest to get a team to guarantee him $16M for a single season AND cut him so he could sign elsewhere. Mainly because Oz didn't work so hard forcing the guaranteeing team to cut him that he scared away anyone and everyone who might've signed him later. I do like how Rotoworld and Browns tweet reporters say signing Oz for the vet minimum softens Clevelands blow from that $16M cap hit. Because $15,225,000 is SO much less than $16,000,000.

It's a signing for maybe 6 games and it indicates that Paxton will be out longer than they are letting on.

It also means they don't trust Kyle Sloter to be the backup. He's going to be cut & signed to the practice squad. He'll clear waivers too according to Mike Klis who talked with other NFL former GMs. Apparently, the rest of the league is not all that exited by Sloter. Kid had a nice training camp. When he does something in the regular season they will pick up their ears.

I would put Paxton on the PUP list immediately, sign Brock, and then see in practice over the next 3 weeks. Then if Brock sucks as bad here as he did in Houston and Cleveland, they can cut him when Paxton returns off the PUP list.

If Kaep was placed in our stable organization with our defense we would be in the playoffs this year. If only he was smart and took less money.

I don't know about that, he's not exactly a "safe" QB who you can just let ride the defense to wins.

Now, if we had both Kaep AND Jim Harbaugh, I would agree with you.

Well according to some we are overreacting. I mean, ive seen bad (McDouche) and this kind of reeks of that the way today has gone.
That's a... disturbing comparison. He lost me early and permanently with the Cutler trade, even before I found out about the douchey way he handled it, and then turning around and wasting a 1st round pick that was one of the few upsides by drafting the latest SECAA dual-"threat" du jour just dug it deeper. This doesn't QUITE feel the same to me, but then again, McDumbass hadn't banked QUITE as much positive fan-credit as Elway has.

When HE GOT BENCHED FOR TOM SAVAGE. THE ENTIRE CITY OF HOUSTON CHEERED
Again I say: Full credit to O'Brien for only needing FOUR SOLID YEARS to figure out Tom Savage was the best QB he had. Then again, Savage is just some scrub 4th round camp arm, but Oz is an undeveloped 1st rounder: You can't throw away that kind of talent for something as trivial as reaching an AFC Championship. ;)

Oh, i can help you out UA.

Brock simply had the keys to the Ferrari, all he had to do was not wreck it. He got into a fender bender in the last game of the regular season but the sheriff came back and saved the day with his massive driving skills.

A Ferrari with a dumpster fire of an offensive line...

Not wrecking things in today's NFL is a big deal, and Elway was ready to pay him $16 million annually. Brock outplayed Manning that entire season, and it is revisionist history to go back and imply that Brock wasn't a critical part of that run. Guy made big time plays against Cincy and New England in critical moments.

There are MANY things for Broncos fans to be upset at Brock over, but his actual play on the field while in a Broncos uniform is not one of them.

Cugel

The Broncos were willing to pay Osweiler $16 million+ last offseason... Meanwhile, they refused to trade for Kaepernick because he wouldn't take a pay cut. Clearly, the Broncos are higher on Brock, and have always been higher on Brock.

They offered him $13 M a year, not $16. $16 was what Houston offered him. He got paid $37 million guaranteed over 2 years. Denver's offer was $32 M guaranteed over 4 years.

They still dodged a bullet when he chose to sign with Houston. Why in hell would they bring him back? He sucks at any price. Cleveland never intended to keep him, their posturing of interest was only designed to suck a draft pick out of someone. When it became clear that wasn't going to fool anybody, they cut him loose.

The only upside is that they will cut him again once Paxton returns. Paxton isn't great, but he's heads and shoulders above Osweiler.

And about the entire fan base hates Osweiler for turning his back on Denver.

Im sure its been said in one of these pages, but WTF seriously is the point of this move.

Is this team competing in some sort of league wide competition to collect the most mediocre undeveloped QBs?

Sigh, Cya BossWard, Welcome guy who didnt want to sign here not long ago and couldnt make a roster in Cleveland.

I mean if she doesn't throw like a girl she's already head and shoulders over Tim.

If by fun you mean a crapshow where everyone runs around kicking each other in the nuts, it's a blast!

It's basically the Chiefsplanet of our fandom. A few weeks ago when Edelman got hurt they were celebrating it wishing that Tom Brady would contract aids. Great bunch of people.
