Sure, but to what level? He's a good run blocker, but ANY kind of misdirection leaves him chasing his tail even after two years on the field. Then again, the same applies to Paradis and he's NOT a good run blocker (because he lacks the strength) but the consensus is he's the second coming of Tom Nalen.

At least you caught the important quote: " Mike McCoy on Broncos' O-line: "Jeff Davidson and John (Benton) will make them play better and they WILL play better next year."

That means you should not expect the Broncos to go out in FA and replace the entire OL, just because Joel wants them to.

They are going to work with the majority of starters from 2016 and try and improve them, rather than just replace them.

I still expect them to go out in FA and acquire a RT because Donald Stephenson just flat sucked.

I still expect them to re-sign Russell Okung because there's nobody better available.

I still expect them to draft a couple of OL in the draft, but not in the first round and none of them will be intended as starters in 2017, rather long term developmental projects. Maybe in 2018 one or more of their 2017 OL draft picks will be ready to step in as a starter. Hopefully, they can come into the rotation later in the year, but we'll see.

In short, expect the OL to be a patch-work similar to what it was in 2016. Hopefully better coaching can help these guys, but no, I don't expect them to suddenly become All-Pros just because there's a new OL coach replacing Clancey Barone.

The line will continue to struggle in some games. And the QB is likely to get hurt as a result. That's why they are glad they have 2 QBs in Paxton & Trevor, because the chances of Trevor Siemian lasting the entire season without having to miss any games due to injury are not red hot. He's more injury prone than Tony Romo.

Paradis was ranked by Football Outsiders as the #1 C in the NFL in 2016. You can argue with them, but not successfully.

The big problem for him is "how healthy is he going to be after his two hip surgeries?" Supposedly the doctors are "encouraged" by his response to the surgery. He's back on the bicycle the day after the surgery because doctors learned from the tragic case of Bo Jackson to keep the player active after the surgery.

We'll just have to see how the new system and his recovery from surgery goes in the off-season. He is now insisting that he's going to be ready for training camp, but that's wildly unlikely. They have got Connor McGovern, who is a big mauler who didn't get onto the field at all in his rookie year. They will probably want to coach him up a bit and he could be useful in rotation. He might even get the start at C if Paradis isn't ready game 1. That would be a cheaper alternative to going out in FA and getting a veteran C who can play if Paradis can't go.

As for Max Garcia, he's a mauler, like Louis Vasquez, (who they let go because he didn't fit into the ZBS very well). His problems in 2016, according to former teammate and fellow OL Tyler Polumbus, was that he was too aggressive and would attack his man from the snap, getting out of alignment with his fellow linemen all too often. That led to gaps in the blocking scheme.

Well, that's the kind of error that can be fixed with coaching and they are going to try and do it. He's still a young player, only entering his 2nd year as a starter, so we can expect some improvement. He's supposedly not great in space, but they are playing him at G and a new blocking scheme won't require him to kick out and move like the ZBS. They really didn't have the players to make that system work here in Denver, and they still don't have them now.

Admittedly, the OL isn't going to be great in any case, but it could be significantly improved over last years' group, even though they are keeping 3 or 4 starters from 2016.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Tuesday's series of press conferences and meet-and-greets with Broncos coaches offered plenty of key items to disseminate as the Broncos' offseason gets underway.

A few pertinent takeaways from the day's proceedings:

1. JOSEPH "ABSOLUTELY" COMMITTED TO SIEMIAN AND LYNCH

Head Coach Vance Joseph made his intentions at quarterback clear, reiterating that his "vision" is to have Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch in an open competition for the starting job.

"They're both smart guys. Obviously different skill sets, but I'm committed to both of those kids," Joseph said. "They're good football players, and we've got to build around those guys."

The subject of Tony Romo arose, given that the Cowboys quarterback has been the focal point of rumors and chatter in recent weeks, but Joseph dismissed that.

"That's not even possible. He's under contract right now, so we can't discuss that, obviously," Joseph said. "But we've got two guys [Siemian and Lynch] that are capable. They're two different guys. They're two young guys, and we're excited about them both."

2. THE OFFENSIVE GAME PLANS WILL CHANGE "WEEK TO WEEK"

Depends on whether you use your brief opportunity to kick bear-ass or introduce yourself to it (and the latter's kind of inefficient, since it practically ensures you'll be getting "up close and personal" with bear-ass in a day or two.)

son of a bitch! effin' little weasel shanahan and the niners just hired john benton, our assistant O-line coach, away from us. . . seriously, we can't even keep dudes on our staff for one season without MFers poaching them? i get allowing your people to move, but this is kind of a kick in the nuts. . . i mean, it's not like we need the help developing our line or anything. . .

Benton was hired as the assistant offensive line coach in Denver after Vance Joseph was named the Broncos’ new head coach, but he won’t be on Joseph’s staff in 2017. Benton was granted permission to interview with the 49ers for their offensive line job and it apparently went well.

A day after Alex Marvez of Sporting News reported that Benton was finalizing a deal to join Kyle Shanahan’s staff, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that the agreement is in place. The move reunites Shanahan and Benton, who coached the offensive line in Houston when Shanahan was the offensive coordinator of the Texans for four seasons.

Pretty sure all motive for Shanny Jr. to help the Broncos succeed ended the moment we hired Joseph: Shannys job is helping SF succeed, whoever else fails.

Who?
Jon Benton; he was the assistant line coach for Kubiak and Dennisons really good ones in Houston. Elway (or "Joseph," if one insists; more likely McCoy) hired him as our assistant line coach, leaving the door open for Shanny Jr. to offer him a promotion back to his old job: He's apparently walked through that door. Since Benton's been running the Jags line since McNair cleaned house in Houston and the Jags offense hasn't done squat (except spend big to sign Beadles away from us) I'm not sure it's such a huge loss: I'd rather have his Houston understudy Frank Pollack, but doubt he leaves Dallas any time soon.

If you're being sarcastic, my bad; hard to tell in text.

Cugel

Apparently they already replaced that assistant coach with Matt Paradis' former OL coach at Boise state. He wanted to come and coach in the NFL so he left a job as a head OL coach in college and came to Denver. This furthers a move for the Broncos to hire a bunch of over-qualified coaches - guys who have been offensive coordinators elsewhere coming here to be assistants, former Raiders OC who comes here to coach the WRs, guys who were OL coaches coming here to be assistant OL coaches, etc.

They certainly aren't lacking for coaching talent. Now if the OL talent was as good as the coaching talent they'd be ready to pack their bags for the SB right now.
