DENVER — After a three-sack performance Sunday against Indianapolis, Von Miller was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week. This is his third conference recognition of his career and the first since Week 11 of the 2012 season. Miller is now tied with Broncos Ring of Fame linebacker Karl Mecklenburg for the most AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors in team history since the award was initiated by the NFL in 1984. It is also the fourth time a Broncos defender has earned this honor since the beginning of the 2015 season.
Miller was a game-changer in the Broncos 34-20 win against the Colts. The Super Bowl 50 MVP sealed the Broncos’ victory with a crucial strip sack of Andrew Luck with 1:51 remaining in the fourth quarter that was recovered by teammate Shane Ray for a touchdown. He tied a career high with three sacks for a loss of 20 yards, seven tackles, one pass defensed and one forced fumble, becoming just the fifth player in the last six seasons to achieve all of those totals in a single game. He’s the first to accomplish this feat since three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt, who did this for the Texans on January 3 vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars.
