Ravens (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/page/BAL/baltimore-ravens) kicker Justin Tucker (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/1985374/justin-tucker) raised quite a few eyebrows across the NFL this week when he claimed that he could hit (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/ravens-justin-tucker-84-yard-field-goal-is-possible-in-right-conditions/) an 84-yard field goal in a game if the kick was attempted under perfect conditions...

...If you think that sounds ridiculous, you're not the only one -- so does Brandon McManus (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/2058320/brandon-mcmanus). The Broncos (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/page/DEN/denver-broncos) kicker called out Tucker this week and basically challenged him to put his money where his mouth is. McManus is so convinced that Tucker can't make an 84-yarder that he's willing pay for the Ravens kicker to fly to Colorado.

How is calling out someone for claiming to be able to do something that no one has ever come close to doing considered "hating"

At Mile High Stadium

I don't know even at Mile High trying kick a field goal more three quarters the length of the field seems to far.

Yea, if Elam didn't do it in all his years kicking at Mile High, I doubt Tucker could.

I would guess that it would be possible, but that he wouldn't do in unless he had over one-thousand tries.

I was saying it tongue in cheek, piggy backing on the concept of "ideal conditions with a 50mph tail wind".

It would have to be the last play of a half because, otherwise, no coach would let him try knowing a missed attempt spots the ball for the other team inside the red zone.

I say let him try it without any rushers. If he makes it then we give him a $100,000.00 and send him home first class, if he misses then Derek Wolfe gets a 10 yard running start at tackling him as he stands there peeing his pants....

The only way a team would ever even consider trying anything even close to that length would be a fair catch kick, which as you said, would only happen at the end of the half. The fair catch kick gives you the advantage of not having the defense rush you.

Do "perfect conditions" include booster rockets? Even if true (which it obviously isn't) it'd be BS because he said, "in a game," knowing full well no NFL coach in his right mind would EVER even CONSIDER a FG try from his own 33 yard line. It's an object lesson in the importance of claims being verifiable more than anything else.

I don't know, if that ball doesn't make it out bounds it's live ball and could be returned.

Well, the Raiders attempted a 76 yard field goal in a game once, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that a coach would ever try a longer one.

So, he had a 61-yarder in Detroit in 2013 (career long), and it made it over by about a yard. And he's telling us he has 23 more yards in him? I doubt it, even at altitude, with a heavy wind at his back.

It would have to be a fair catch kick, which you can kick at a lower trajectory since the defense can't block it. 84 is probably out of the picture, but I think several kickers could easily clear 70 yards on a fair catch kick.

I would agree. A kickoff going through is 75 yards, right? He's talking 9 more yards, I'm not sure that's even physically possible.

She's got a really c**ty look about her. Like in a really bad Orange County way.

Might as well just give her half your money now, Derek.

The claim was that Justin Tucker could kick an 84 yard FG during a game. Both of the kickers in this video made their FGs without an opposing D trying to block it. Like McManus said about Tucker's pregame warm-up kick, they were so low that the D would've easily have blocked them.

It's one thing to kick from a kicking tee with on opponent out there trying to block it.

I'll say it again, the defense isn't allowed to block a fair catch kick. So yes, a kick that long could be done in a game and have a chance of being made.

Yet you still seemed to be implying that 80 yarder couldn't have been hit in a game.
