I will click on an attachment, and my computer will either be very slow to open up the attachment or freeze up where I have to do 'end task' and get out of internet.

There seems to be some sluggishness now clicking on a forum or post.

Anyone else experiencing these difficulties?

Thanks.

Are you referring to attachments in emails, or something to do with this forum?

If it is email attachments that are slow, and it persists through a reboot, then there are any number of things that could cause it, but you should definately make sure to do a virus and spyware scan.

Actually, it's just within the forums, submitting posts, opening attachments within posts/threads. I do not have this problem on other sites on the internet.

If it isn't happening on other forums, and others aren't having the same problem (haven't heard complaints yet), there might simply be a problem somewhere on the internet between you and where the server is located.

Not sure if you are familiar with using the command window in XP or Vista, but that is one way to spot problems between you and the server.

If you click on the start menu, then click 'Run'. When the window pops up, type, "cmd" without the "" and click ok.

When it opens up the black cmd (command) window, type the following and then hit enter:
tracert broncosforums.com

You should see something that looks like:

Tracing route to broncosforums.com [72.249.97.95]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 3 ms 1 ms 1 ms gateway [192.168.1.1]
2 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms 192.168.0.1
6 29 ms 29 ms 28 ms ex1-p0-0.eqchil.sbcglobal.net [151.164.42.147]

12 38 ms 38 ms 38 ms 72.249.95.7
13 42 ms 37 ms 37 ms 72.249.97.95

Trace complete.

If you see any of those 'hops' (each line is considered a hop, and relates to a router between you and the server) that either has *** instead of a time, or a real high time, like 150ms or 450ms, then it could indicate a problem at that spot.

I edited your post to remove the first couple lines of the traceroute, because it showed the IP address of your cable/dsl modem and where you are located.

Everything looks good with the tracert. Typically speaking, when you are seeing ping times under 85ms or so, all is good on the route between you and the server.

Your ping times are a little better than mine, with the ping to the server (the last line of that trace) being only 30ms, which is very good.

While route problems can come and go, based on what we talked about in the PM, it doesn't sound like it is a problem between you and the server, and your tracert would tend to confirm that.

Well, it's a 'good' thing you're here (re that IP address), now isn't it? Thank you for editing that part. :D

Therefore, we are looking at needing increased memory and larger hard drive?

Possibly, OR, if the behavior just started (meaning last month everything was fine, then all of a sudden you started having problems), then you could have a virus, spyware or something corrupt in your operating sysem or a program.

It's sudden....for about 4-5 days now. I downloaded googles spyware detector and have been running that everyday (I think the first time I had 26 low risk adware thingys) and cleared those off (to the best of my knowledge). I have Norton, and have ran that daily, including running any updates suggested. Is there anything else I can do that you don't mind suggesting???? Thanks.

If it just started 4-5 days ago, then you can almost certainly rule out needing more ram as the problem. The only reason you would need a bigger hard drive is if you are very low on disk space, maybe only a few megabytes.

If you have plenty of free disk space, then I would lean towards something getting corrupted, OR if you installed something 4 or 5 days ago, right before it started, that could very well be causing your problem.

I will run the disk-thingy to clean up free space AND will look at recent downloads to free up space.

I REALLY appreciate you on this. Thank you again.
