Gone are the days of months-long rookie holdouts because of contract disputes.

Punter Riley Dixon, Denver's seventh-round draft pick was the first Broncos drafted rookie to sign. He signed a four-year deal Wednesday.

The rookie scale sets each player's contract, making it highly unlikely for a deal not to be done by training camp. The rest of the Broncos' draft signings should be completed by the end of the month.

Save the best for last?

No. Didn't you read? RFD already signed.

Save the best for last?

Nope. First law of negotiating: First one to give a number loses.

In this case the higher round pick waits for the later round pick to sign and can negotiate a little higher salary. Expect to see our draft picks sign contracts in reverse order (last first and first signs last.)

Aren't all rookie salaries pretty standardized now?

Teams and player agents still have negotiating to do when it comes to the influx of rookies taken in the 2016 NFL Draft, but getting the rookies to put pen to paper on a contract is simpler now than it was in 2010 and the years prior. That was the final season before the latest collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the NFL Players' Association was enacted.

Each of the 250-plus draft slots are allotted a specific portion of the league's total rookie compensation pool, effectively introducing a wage scale dependent on draft position. This means no more holdouts extending into training camp and few points of contention between agents and teams when it comes time to sign.

The biggest reason this change was made is obvious: first-round picks were getting paid a ton of money, and agents rarely wanted to negotiate until July for fear that another player taken in a later draft spot would get more money than his guy. It got to the point where teams didn't want the first overall pick in the draft because it would mean committing franchise quarterback-type money to an unproven rookie.

Signings rolling in for #Broncos.. Team has signed S Justin Simmons and RB Devontae Booker today....

KUSA - Two more Denver Broncos officially became professionals Friday when third-round rookie safety Justin Simmons and fourth-round running back Devontae Booker were signed to four-year contracts.

Simmons received a $645,420 signing bonus. Add in the four minimum salaries of $450,000 in 2016; $540,000 in 2017; $630,000 in 2018 and $720,000 in 2019 and his four-year deal is worth $2.99 million

Booker received a $383,392 bonus. His four-year deal is worth $2.72 million.

Simmons and Booker join seventh-round punter Riley Dixon ($80,008 signing bonus), sixth-round fullback Andy Janovich ($164,308) and sixth-round safety Will Parks ($100,356) as Broncos draft picks who have signed their first professional contracts.

Bronco draft picks who have not yet signed are first-round quarterback Paxton Lynch, second-round defensive lineman Adam Gotsis and fifth-round guard Connor McGovern.

Lynch is expected to get a four-year contract (with a fifth-year team option) worth close to $9.5 million with a signing bonus worth more than $5 million.

DENVER - If money talks, defensive tackle Kyle Peko has the best chance of the Denver Broncos’ undrafted rookies to make either the team’s 53-man roster or practice squad.

Tight end Henry Krieger Coble, receiver Bralon Addison, linebacker David Moala and offensive tackle Justin Murray – who didn’t sign until last week – also have a better chance than others.

While signing bonuses are usually an indicator of what a team thinks of an undrafted player, it’s hardly automatic. In 2011, an undrafted defensive back from Kansas received a paltry signing bonus of $2,000, which was among the smallest in the Broncos’ undrafted class.

That player turned out to be Chris Harris Jr., who is now playing on a five-year, $42.5 million contract.

Signing bonuses for 21 of the Broncos’ 23 undrafted rookies have finally been reported. Kyle Kragen, a linebacker from Cal and son of former Broncos’ Pro Bowl defensive lineman Greg Kragen, and former Iowa defensive back B.J. Lowery, did not receive a signing bonus.
