(CNN)A Texas grand jury has indicted free agent quarterback and 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel on an assault charge, according to Dallas County court records.

Manziel's former girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, accused the former NFL quarterback (http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/25/us/johnny-manziel-alleged-assault/index.html) of restraining, hitting and threatening her during an alleged assault on January 30. She says in an affidavit that Manziel grabbed her by the hair and hit her, causing her to lose her hearing in one ear.

Manziel, 23, has denied hitting Crowley.
The indictment accuses Manziel of "intentionally and knowingly and recklessly (causing) bodily injury to" Crowley.

The NFL also is investigating the incident. Manziel could face a league-imposed suspension if he is found to have violated the personal conduct policy.

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was booked Wednesday in relation to a misdemeanor charge stemming from a domestic violence complaint by his ex-girlfriend.

Manziel's attorney, Bob Hinton, told ESPN's Mark Schwarz that Manziel has been booked in and booked out at the Highland Park jail at about 3:25 p.m. CT and was released on $1,500 bond.

Manziel will appear in court before Judge Roberto Canas on Thursday morning, Hinton told ESPN.

$1,500 is nothing. He can raise that just by driving down to College Station and autographing jerseys and footballs and shot glasses and bras...

I would like to remind everyone the Browns spent a first round pick on an undersized running quarterback who had 4.8 speed and demonstrated the emotional maturity of a doorknob

I don't think you should denigrate doorknobs like that.

Forgive the oversight.
