Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Texans might still be in the market to draft a quarterback in the NFL Draft. A scout for the Texans, Rob Kisiel, sent a text message to someone he thought was Dak Prescott. Turns out it wasn’t.

AND

The Text Reads:

Dak…this is Rob Kisiel, scout- Houston Texans. Hope you are enjoying all of the lead up to the draft! I need to get a few things from you… {please text or email me the answers to [redacted] 1) I wanted to verify your agent and your draft day ph-#…ALSO looking for a SECONDARY ph-# (a ph that you will have near on draft day that is not your agent’s)… 2) which teams have you shown the most interest in you… 3) Any visits or private workouts, which teams? I would appreciate you’re (sic) responses as soon as you can… if you email, Please let me know who you are in the Subject line jus in case your em-addr doesn’t clearly state your name. Thanks, Rob / Texans

The person that Kisiel texted, that isn’t Dak Prescott, replyed that he had the wrong number. Kisiel thanked the girl he texted and it all seemed to be over. Until Jessica let the text get out.

Interesting, after they gave Osweiler that ridiculous contract.

I would expect Houston to be looking at maybe mid-round QBs just to have behind Os in case he doesn't pan out, but I'd be pretty shocked if they drafted one high enough to get a guy like Prescott. That would be kinda hilarious if they spent a 2nd rounder on a QB right after getting Os though.

Interesting, assuming it is true. They may very well send these types of communications to everyone on their draft board. Even a qb, because if he drops far enough they might pick him as backup.

Like Broncos drafting Os.

Exactly - by the text the scout sent Prescott, sure sounds like they are interested in him. Seems ridiculous if they really have that much confidence in Osweiler.

Like Broncos drafting Os.

That's a little different, though. Peyton was already late in his career and no one even knew if he'd rebound from his injury, so we had to have insurance. Os is a young guy who, with the contract he was just given, should be their franchise guy for the next 10 years. It would be alarming if they picked a QB early in the draft right after giving him that deal.

What Tned said is probably right that teams send those kind of texts to everyone on their board, because even if they aren't planning on drafting him high, you never know who will drop, especially with Dak's recent arrest.

I know, I was more referencing all the people  pissed that Broncos spent a two on him.

It'd be kind of embarrassing to get to the draft, want to draft a guy because he dropped and then have to phone another GM for his phone number.

one of the poster boys for unproven QBs getting paid is matt flynn-- dude got beaten out by third-rounder russell wilson when flynn missed time in camp with elbow problems. . . the rest, obviously, is history. . . so, stranger things have happened. . . it'd be hilarious to see brent get beaten out without getting on the field. . . :heh:

That was actually my 1st response. The only other scenario that makes any sense to me is if the Texans have reason to believe Prescott is going to fall a lot further then the commentators think. Other wise, this mistake has the possibility of provoking Oz to have a Cutler like reaction.

I guess I'm confused on what the "controversy" is here. The ancient adage in the NFL at most positions...and especially at QB...is "if you need one, get two." Houston would be foolish not to look at additional talent at QB in the draft and there are already plenty of people that peg them to target Hackenburg in the 3rd if he's still available. Him and every other QB they like probably got the same text.

I agree Coach. They still haven't released Hoyer (that I know of) so they have Osweiler, Hoyer, Weeden (who they re-signed) and Tom Savage (preseason Bronco watchers may remember him from two years ago). Assuming Hoyer is traded or released, they're in a position to not need a QB in the draft but to take one if they think it improves the ballclub.

Meanwhile, you'd think the Bengals would try to kidnap/bribe T.J. Yates rather than have to see him line up against them ever again, right King?

This reminds me of something that happened a couple years ago:

I sent a text, which was intended for a co-worker, but it went to a customer.
The unfortunate thing is the text was about that customer and how he smelled like a brewery and was living like a rock star.

I was thankful to keep my job after that incident. It was awful at the time, but looking back it is pretty funny.

Oh man - I had a similar instance but with email. I "casually" asked our legal department a question without going through proper channels. The reply back (which ripped me a new one for not following protocol) included my VP, the Regional EVP and General Council at my company.

Something similar happened to me once...except I was in the right. Didn't stop my VP of Legal from chewing me out. I asked him if he'd still be talking this way to me if he was standing right in front of me. My boss had a heart attack and the VP laughed it off and then shut his mouth. I guess I could have opened a whole new can of worms with that but got lucky. Anyway...off topic, but the legal example reminded of this story.

I had a boss once that accidentally banged a barely legal subordinate (to him, coworker to me) at the exact same time his wife was giving birth to their 1st child.

It's weird that the Texans would be interested in a backup QB with Brian Hoyer there.

I wonder if Houston is looking to trade their 3rd, 4h, or 5th pick to a team that is interested in Prescott. Houston has the 20-22nd pick in each round. If teams think Dak is worthy of a late 3rd or early 4th, or late 4th or early 5th, Houston's pick might be enticing for a team to trade up or down for. It all depends on where the teams interested in Dak rank him. I highly doubt that they are interested in Prescott unless they rank him past the 4th/5th. They guaranteed Osweiller a lot of money and resigned Weeden as the backup.
