I kind of expected this at some point, given his Kubiak connection:

Per Cameron Wolfe...

#Broncos have signed former Texans DE Jared Crick to a two-year deal.

like it. . . he gives us another vet who can play five-technique, so we have some depth behind wolfe and walker. . . it means we don't have to rely on annunike's knees holding up, or thrust a rookie into the mix right away. . . i still suspect we'll take a DL somewhere in this deep class, but now we have the luxury of breaking that kid in on third downs, where he can use his fresh legs to get after the passer without having to hold up in run support. . . pretty much the same way we used shane ray last season. . . this fits JFE's M.O. of filling all the glaring roster holes with inexpensive vets before the draft. . . best player available, coming up once again!

Jared Crick is a good guy and a hard worker, a lunch pail player who gives everything he's got.

Crick is a former star at Nebraska who slid to the 5th round. He isn't a star but he is solid and plays his role well. You won't need him sacking QBs with the other talents on hand. Good, inexpensive signing. Not sure why the Texans didn't try to keep him.

Crick did have 8 sacks both his Soph and Junior season then only played in five games a Senior because of injury.
Teams can only double team so many guys on our "D" so he could help out with a pass rush also!

Solid pick up. Def a cap friendly deal.

One way or another, Jared Crick was going to be in a familiar environment.

The fifth-year veteran was either going to stay with the Texans, the only team he had ever known, or join the Broncos, whose coaching staff included the three people under which he began his career: Defensive Line Coach Bill Kollar, Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips and Head Coach Gary Kubiak, all of whom held those positions win Houston.

"[The choice] was tough, but I think I made the right one," Crick said after agreeing to a two-year deal with the Broncos on Wednesday that took him off the market after being available as an unrestricted free agent for a month.

Crick later told Denver Sports 760 that even before the 2015 season ended, he knew he "either wanted to go to Denver or stay in Houston."

Denver was his "first choice," Crick also noted.

Yes!!!!!!!! I've only wanted this guy since he entered the draft. Him and JJ Watt, but that may never happen.

Fine I guess - a little apprehensive about what seems like an unneeded defensive change - Antonio Smith did his job last year.

Is this an upgrade? If we were going to bring in another Kubiak guy why not just keep the one we had been doing the job?

Prob will be fine though - haven't been many missteps lately on this side of the ball.

If Lynch isn't there there's numerous defensive guys I'd take over Cook. So I'd tend to agree.

Agreed, if he would put the work in I think he would make us forget about Jackson

Either way you look at it, we still lost a DE and needed to add one, right?

Smith did his job last year backing up Jackson. Jackson isnt here anymore. Is Crick gonna be a super stud? I doubt it but he's hes a good player and every team needs depth. He will probably start but won't be as good as Jackson.
It's a good signing for our team though.

As am I, but it would be a luxury pick because he can't play until 2017.

Crick is a solid starter. 5th year!!!! Just the type of player Elway loves, under rated guy coming into his prime. 2 year is just a start could be extended if plays well. Antonio Smith will be what 34 this season and Crick is like 29.

Yeah......but with 10 picks in the draft, we can still get help this year. Having him next year would be like having a top 10 pick, AND having him already exposed to our system.

I wouldnt be upset at all.

But if hes actually a target, I think we can trade down into the second and still get him.

Pump the brakes, ladies and gents, Big Al loved this move and called it a steal.

Minutes later he would go on to say that the 2015 Denver Broncos were the luckiest team in NFL history and that Denver would finish last in the AFC West in 2016.

According to the googles, Crick is 26. He will be 27 in August. He's just 6 months older than Wolfe.

Yeah I think I loved that the most about the signing. The man can still get better, even coming into his prime years.

Good signing and glad he wanted to throw down with Kubiak and the boys again.

Is he injured?

Is he injured?

He hurt his knee in their bowl game. That's why he didn't run any drills at the combine. There are concerns about his recovery, and he may slide into the mid/late rounds.

He would have been a top 5 pick.

The thing that I love about this signing is that these five techniques get to play Under Kollar who is arguably the best 3-4 defensive line coach in the NFL. JJ Watt has said repeatedly that this coach had the greatest impact on him as a player in his career. Its also why I love the idea of drafting Nkemdichi as well.

Damn. I keep forgetting about him too. We seem to only use one DT at a time and sometimes not one at all. Maybe we can rotate a lot and keep people healthy.

An under-the-radar FA acquisition by @johnelway was DE @JrodVCrick, who ranks 2nd among NFL 3-4 DEs w/5 QB hits this year (via @pff).
