Peyton Manning authored his Hall of Fame career as a member of the Indianapolis Colts, but it appears he won't be retiring as a member of his original team.

Despite holding a news conference for Peyton where the Colts announced they will construct a statue for him and retire his No. 18 jersey, the five-time MVP will opt to retire as a member of the Broncos, Dave Furst of WRTV in Indy reported Monday.

How can he sign a one-day deal with Colts when Denver owns his rights for another year?

One..he retired. Two.. why would the Broncos contest this for ANY reason?

Even if retires, broncos own the rights to him. Broncos would have to release him of that contract in order to sign a 1 day deal.

I'm sure Elway would do that if Manning had requested it.

This reminds me of the time that John Elway jilted the Colts and retired a Bronco.
