With Huerman waiting in the wings this doesn't totally shock me. Daniels played nicely down the stretch last season, but he is expendable.

Wasn't he due quite a bit this year?

That's what mystifies me - I just looked on OTC, and he was due $4.5 million. We save $2.5 but have a $2 million dead money hit. Seems like it wasn't really worth it for that amount, but I'm sure they have a plan.

Wow!! ******* stripping the cupboards bare over there in Dove Valley.

Huerman should be ready and I think Daniels' cap hit went up a decent amount this year. He was awesome for us down the stretch and DEFINITELY in the AFCCG, but his production can be had at a better value. Thank you for the year Owen!

Since he's only ever played for Kubiak I think one of three things happen: He comes back on a reduced contract, he retires, or Gary is fired and becomes the coach wherever Owen goes.

*EDIT - looking at the numbers I'm a little shocked myself. 2 million in dead money hurts. I'm willing to bet he was approached about restructuring and said no.

TE Owen Daniels released by the Broncos. Was told retirement has not been discussed. Wants to play in 2016.

If following at home, #Broncos have released LS Aaron Brewer, G Louis Vasquez and TE Owen Daniels.

Aaron Brewer too?? Noooooo!

A possible young movement coming.

Leaves us with the 2015 pick coming back from injury and green. Daniels was signed due to that injury.

He caught Peyton's last ever TD pass.

BTW, I'm not starting a thread for Brewer, but that's another odd move to me. We save a meager $430,000 by releasing him, and take a $555,00 cap hit.

Surprises me a bit given his history with Kubiak; I wonder if we'll offer Davis a vet minimum deal now. Heuerman's still an unknown, and so far the team hasn't shown much interest in using Green as a receiver, but Davis remains blazing and a good blocker who just turned 32, so may be a good bargain option.

Know anyone else on the team with LS abilities or did we just create a need?

Missed that and Vasquez; the things that slip by when you spend the morning Skyping your wife and kid, then talking to Time Warners tech.

Do we still have Vernon Davis on the team?

I'm assuming Brewer get resigned. I hope anyway, that dude is money.

Daniels is not a surprise, even with the hit. Need every penny. The rook and green will get bulk of playing time with a guy like Gordon? more than likely filling in as a third TE blocker.

Scofield to guard possibly, Clady back(hopefully) at reduced rate, Sambrillo at RT, see if they take a rook as a top pick on the line, see where he fits.

Money is tight.

Considering we're on the hook for $555,000 dead money, I don't really see how he'd be back unless he works for free.

As a certified OD fanboi I am obviously pretty displeased. But I do get the math. Hope Heuerman is ready to play ball

I was pretty disappointed in the signing early on, but by the end of the year I was a big OD fan.

from article:

The moves create $8,430,000 of salary-cap room, according to OvertheCap.com. Combined with the $19 million that came off their salary cap with Peyton Manning's retirement Monday, the Broncos have created $27,430,000 of space, although they have a $14.129 million charge against the cap for Von Miller's franchise tender that hits Wednesday.

Good player, but he seems to have an awful attitude. I'd personally pass.

I wouldn't be at all surprised at this. If they don't then they need to find another TE somewhere. They are locked into Virgil Green, and doubtless believe that if they improve their OL they will be able to use Green as a TE and less as a blocker this season. But, they will still need a 3rd TE from somewhere and the draft is not a great option because they already have a young developmental player they like in Heuerman.
