View Full Version : The View from outside Denver: Five Reasons Pitt Not Only Has a Chance, but "a Good One"

Presented without comment (except that, somehow, neither "lots of cheap shots" nor "having the refs in the bag" made the list.)
http://espn.go.com/blog/pittsburgh-steelers/post/_/id/17488/yes-the-steelers-still-have-a-chance-a-good-one

Meanwhile, our own Legwold kindly provides (http://espn.go.com/blog/denver-broncos/post/_/id/17883/there-are-some-cold-hard-facts-with-peyton-manning-in-playoff-weather) the obligatory "Peyton Manning is 0-5 in playoff games <40°" reminder. To that I can only say, again, that picking the COLDEST playoff game Manning's EVER won (@KC when he won the SB) just for the sake of saying, "Manning's NEVER won below x" is a tautology proving NOTHING.

The forecast for Denver today is a high of 43 (temp at 40 for 3 pm kickoff) with no precip and little wind. Excellent post-season weather for Denver.

Scratch that excuse.

It will be low 30s by the 4th quarter. :defense:

Didn't Manning drop 50 on the Titans in 20 degree weather a couple of years ago?

He did a lot of things a couple years ago

Well, it just defeats the narrative that he can't win in cold weather. Sure, he's a different player now, but people make it seem like cold weather has always been his kryptonite, which is simply not true.

Agree.

I have a victory cigar locked and loaded. I really hope I get a chance to destroy my lungs tonight

I was there. It was three degrees.

The article predicts a close game. I will take that - Pitt loses close games and Denver wins them.

They can come up with any reason or excuse why Peyton would not play well. I hope they think the weather thing is real. We are brewing up a major storm. Pittsburgh is in way over their heads

That sounds cold.

Indeed it was. But Peyton tossed some darts and Prater hit that 64-yarder.

Yeah, Legwolds article cited that game as being 18° (F) at kickoff.

It's a stupid cherry-picked narrative that simply takes his coldest playoff win, then states the self-evident fact he's "never won below that" like some deep revealing insight. Never mind that he spent 15 years in a dome, so EVERY cold playoff game was on the road against a playoff team. The 2012 Ravens game was a team loss against a team we should've dominated (and had, just a month earlier on the road) and he was hurt last year @Indy. Means nada.

The Steelers can't defend nor attack the deep ball and we're at home with the #1 D, so this shouldn't even be close. If it were anyone but us, I'd have no doubt of the outcome, but since it IS us, I'm worried for many reasons unrelated to either of our QBs, as usual.
