The Cleveland Browns have named former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson their next head coach.
Jackson had been scheduled to fly to New York on Wednesday night to interview with the New York Giants. The San Francisco 49ers had also expressed interest.
Browns owner Jimmy Haslam did not attend Tuesday's NFL owners meeting in Houston, sending his wife, Dee, as his representative. Haslam reportedly stayed in Cleveland to try to finalize a deal to hire Jackson.

I will be interested to see how he does. I thought he was a bit of a megalomaniac in Oakland - and comes off a little too old school/meathead for my liking - sort of like Dan Campbell. But he is well respected in a lot of league circles, so he obviously brings something to the table.

It is an interesting fit as they are going the total opposite way of the old school/meathead mentality in their front office now.

But that egghead they hired won't be doing anything other than analytics.. it's not liek he's going to have a lot of interaction with the decisions with the coach.

But it could cause some headbutting if there are players the coach really likes that DePodesta gets rid of for analytics-based reasons. I would think a guy like Chip Kelly would be a more natural fit if that's the path Cleveland was wanting to take, but he might want too much control over player selection than Cleveland would be willing to give.

We don't really know how much he's going to do with that team, what he's going to do. He's their Chief Strategy Officer. That's not their GM nor in charge of player personnel.
He was incredible in Oakland and firing Hue cost them years. It was a stupid move to fire him, and that point is beyond refutation at this point.
He might be the one to change them.

You're really sexy when you declare what you have stated to be beyond refute.

I'm also correct.
But look what they did after he was booted. LOOK AT IT AL!

Huge fan of Jackson, this is a good hire, hopefully they give him more than a year or two.

It was reported he only answers to the owner. So if he wants a player, who else in the organization is going to stop him?

He only answers to the owner. But that doesn't mean he has control of the player personnel, it means he can't be fired. The GM also only answers to the owner. This guy is made purely to give an opinion, not to actually MAKE the decisions. He doesn't actually hire the players. So he would report his evaluations on players/scouting with the owner and GM, and THEY would make the choices as to whom they decide to aquire. But by NO MEANS, does it mean that if the egghead wants a player, that player is signed without question or having someone else to make that final decision.
He's head of scouting.. not head of player personnel. That's a huge difference.

This is an ambiguous question. I will refrain from answering until I have further clarification.
