The Chargers are headed back to San Diego, at least temporarily, and so is Ken Whisenhunt.

Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Whisenhunt will return to his previous job as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator. Whisenhunt filled the same role during the 2013 season before being hired as the Titans’ head coach.

Whisenhunt was fired during the regular season and his name came up as a possible hire for the Chargers when Frank Reich was dispatched earlier this month.

The Chargers finished fifth in the NFL in yards and 12th in points during Whisenhunt’s year on the job. They also advanced to the postseason, something they have not done in the last two seasons as the offense failed to reach the same heights. The running game ranked 30th and 31st in those seasons and getting that part of the game on track will likely be a particular focus for Whisenhunt in his return engagement with the Chargers.

Yeah, it's Whisenhunts fault the perennially crappy team he inherited was STILL crappy after he ran it for two whole seasons. Bud's dead, but that organization remains as dysfunctionally inept as ever. He's a good OC though, so I'd just as soon he hadn't joined McCoy in SD. Maybe their philosophies will be incompatible...? :)
