Happy Anniversary!!!:salute:

29 years ago today, January 11, 1987, Denver quarterback John Elway drove his team 98 yards for a touchdown to tie the game against the Cleveland Browns, which the Broncos won in overtime to advance to Super Bowl XXI.

I still remember well watching that game. I was 12 years old.

John Elway has been my hero ever since.

I was 9. Watched it with Dad. One of the foundations of my fandom.

I was 6 and like NTL I fell in love with the Broncos, Elway and NFL football for that matter.

2 weeks later Phil Simms made me cry. Eff Phil Simms!!

I was already in love with the Broncos, but that game probably cemented them in deep.

Re: the SB 2 weeks later. I still think that phantom "incomplete" call in the 2nd quarter was BS. This was the first use of instant replay ever in a Super Bowl and the Broncos got absolutely screwed by it. Clarence Kay caught a 25 yard pass, but it was ruled incomplete on the field. The refs reviewed it in Instant Replay, and confirmed the call. However, CBS had a different angle showing that it was a pretty clear good reception and the call should have been overturned. But apparently for some reason that angle wasn't made available to the refs. On the next play Elway was sacked for a safety which would not have been possible if the 25 yard completion was upheld. This not only meant 2 points for the Giants, but momentum shift and a loss of possession in a closely contested game.

Good lord, in Jan 1987 I was 26 with a 5-year-old kid. Pardon me while I find my walker.

It was a great game though. Man, it sucks to be a Browns fan.

I was 28. I watched it with my Dad - a lifelong Browns fan. And '87. And '89. He quit following the NFL when Modell sold out his fans. I still hate the Ravens for robbing me of my football buddy.

I was 25. Also had a kid, been divorced and had a business fail.

It was worth it! :)

Down by 7 with 5 minutes remaining in the game Keith Bishop entered the huddle, "We've got them right where we want them."

Best. Quote. EVER!

For the record I was 16 (not far from 17) the day of that game.

I was 14 and the thing I remember from watching it is the SAME thing I always look for when I watch it again. The laser-cannon TD pass and how I swore it was going right through Mark Jackson's arms.

My friend's Grandfather is having some pretty severe issues with Alzheimer's and dementia, he said recently that he remembers absolutely everything as though it was yesterday, the only problem is he doesn't remember yesterday.

I recall seeing a picture of Mark Jackson's hands a few years later. Not a single finger was straight. He couldn't recall how many times his fingers had been jammed catching Elway's passes.
